  • I spent 4 years designing websites on the Squarespace platform but after a major pivot that took me away from designing websites and into blogging, along with an immense amount of research I made the decision to move over to Showit.
In this video I want to walk you through how I came to this decision as well as give you my advice on whether or not I think Squarespace or Showit is the right platform for you.

I know this wasn't my usual kind of video but I hope you got something out of it and if you have any questions at all about Squarespace, Showit, or the transition process let me know :) x

Showit is shutting down boudoir photographers accounts so if you’re a boudoir photographer, choose another platform

For someone with a personal brand and minimal design skills, would you still recommend ShowIt? Planning to DIY my site because I don’t have the budget for a designer yet. I am on squarespace now and I haven’t found any template designs that match my style and personality.

In my opinion, your best option is to choose a template that you like the most or has certain features that you know you want to include in your website and use it as a starting point to tweak and adjust to your liking. Focus less on finding one that fits your style (you can change all that) and focus on the layouts and features each template offers. Whether that is with Showit or Squarespace it's up to you. Because you are already with Squarespace and as you've said have minimal design skills... I'd recommend staying with Squarespace. They recently released their new Fluid design system which gives you more flexibility with the design within certain parameters which can be helpful if you don't have much experience with design. Showit on the other hand has more of a learning curve. Hope that helps! x

I like the ease of editing with Showit but the fact that commerce is integrated as well as the option to add email, I prefer it. Overall the costs included were higher with Showit as you have to pay a lot more for email and shopify commerce add on.

How can you not like WordPress? WordPress can do it all. Plus having an all in one platform is actually a liability. If ShowIt or Squarespace were to ban your site or close their doors, it would be game over. With WordPress you can literally move to a different host in a mater of an hour or less. Your domain and hosting should be with different providers.

ShowIt isn't an all-in-one platform, your domain needs to be hosted elsewhere which I agree is an extra layer of protection in case it goes down. All platforms have their pros and cons, I guess it just depends on what your priorities are in terms of your website. As a designer, obviously design is an extremely important factor for me and ShowIt offers that in a really streamlined way that far exceeds WordPress (in my opinion). However, one thing I really appreciate is that ShowIt understands that WordPress as a platform is extremely powerful which is why they integrate with it for blogging purposes. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate your input 😊

How is showit versus webflow? :)

I haven't had the opportunity to try out Webflow, but from what I have seen it does have a greater capacity than Showit to really customise the overall experience with things such as animations, motion, custom scrolls etc. but because of that would have a much larger learning curve. As with any platform it depends on what your desired outcome for your website is, as well as your skill level as a designer 🥰
