PERCH FISHING - LURE TACTICS IN FLOODED RIVERS
Вставка
- Опубліковано 11 вер 2024
- We're out Perch Fishing again and we're exploring how we can adapt our approach when lure fishing in flooded rivers. We look at the Texas Rig closely, as this enables us to add extra components that make a noise in the coloured water. We also look at an adjustable rig that converts from Ned to Texas to Carolina by simply moving around a couple of sinkers. The video is a slightly more technical look at tackle and tactics for catching big perch in difficult river conditions.
The Perch are caught on the Korum Squirmz and Squirrel Tails.

Good to see more technical content, it’s not just about the fish, it’s how you catch them 👍
Absolutely. I totally agree. I’ve started a series called Perch Masters, that could be right up your street! Be sure to check them out. Another one being uploaded next week 👍👍👍
@@Lifeonthebank just watched them, great content
Your videos can never be too technical learnt so much from this one as I have from the others top stuff 👍👍
I am fairly new to lure fishing so enjoying the more technical style of video. Keep up the good work 👍👍
Good to know. Thanks for the positive feedback 👍👍👍
Superb as always....nothing wrong with explaining rigs provided it doesnt go too Carp and be the dominant feature.
Absolutely agree. Good advice mate, thanks! 👍
Lovely vid, those perch were bosters! 👌
Cheers mate. Thanks again for checking it out! 😉👍
Texas rig explained really well mate . Loving it all Great stuff
Always look forward to your videos!
Cheers mate. Top man! 👍👍👍
Brilliant simple ideas described clearly
Hi Nick.
Great video mate with some interesting ideas on rigs, great to see them working on two cracking Perch 👍
Great informative video, not at all boring, keep up the good work.
Like the rig content, essential for a newbie to lure fishing. Enjoy watching your content, thanks for uploading.
Excellent video really enjoyed it thanks 👍
HI Nick, another great video.I have been doing some lure fishing and dropshotting with soft plastics for perch this autumn for the first time.Your explanations of all the rigs and how to use them are really helpful and informative.Always look forwards to watching your videos, please keep them coming, there brilliant to watch, thankyou.
Really appreciate the kind comments. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍🙏
Nice cinematic video 💥💥
If I learn something, I’m happy to watch. Never mind coming just to see some beautiful uk perch 🎣
I'm the same mate. We're all learning. Thanks for the feedback!
Another great vid Nick and good ideas too. You fish my birth place where I first became obsessed with fishing in the early 70’s. Those size perch then were unheard of, but I managed my pb in the late 80’s at St. Margaret’s (float fished worm) 4lb 4. I’ve had some good 3s since on lures but still hoping for another 4. Keep the vids coming and enjoy yourself 👍
Good on you mate. A 4lber is a very special fish indeed! Thanks for watching 👍👍👍
Great vlog. Great information. Nothing wrong with the rig talks. I have definitely learnt a thing or two, and a great idea for using sinkers to adapt between setups. Keep them coming 👍👍
Another great video - like the technical aspects which gives additional contexts to the scenarios you take us through. Thank you 🙌
Hey, appreciate the kind feedback. More in the pipeline! 👍
Loved the new format!! Thanks again for sharing your experiences with us
Yesss, have been waiting for the next vid.
Brilliant Nick some cracking perch! Think I've caught the lure fishing bug, take my lure rod everywhere I go now and it's certainly saved a blank once or twice (more like 3 or 4)
Thank you Dan. It’s a very addictive pastime! Will keep you warm(ish) as it gets cold too!!! 👍
Great stuff, that rig is clever thinking mate
Brilliant video,thank you 👍
Thanks for watching 👍👌🙏
This channel will be 10k+ subscribers in no time, superb angling content!
Oh wow. Thanks, awesome feedback. Really appreciate your comments!!!
Have been waiting ages great video man 👍
Cheers pal 👍👍👍👍
This video is awesome!!
Very kind ... thank you mate 👍🎣
Excellent watch as always nick very good angling in testing conditions nice little edge that boosting the lures with some oil cheers mate tight lines
nice one fella
Terrific vid 👍🏻 very creative - like it.
Really appreciate that. Thanks for checking it! 👍👍👍🎣
Love the adjustable rig idea, great video.
Great video thank you , I've now pressed the magic bell for instant notification !
You star! 👍👍👍👌
Hi mate
Talk about going on!!!!!!!!
All I can say is Brilliant 👍
I enjoyed very second of the video.
Like you I use the cheb rig all the time. I've all the gear to fish the other methods but I don't☹
But now I will play with my rigs more.
Thanks again for another quality video.
Tight lines 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
Thank you mate! Really appreciate it. I’m a big cheb lover. Just chucking this rig on when water is coloured... which seems most of the time atm! 😂👍
Great video you absolutely nailed it ! Keep the technical stuff in as it's very helpful.I know I commented on the sound track from your last video but you edited this one perfectly. Looking forward to your next video.
I definitely got it wrong. I watched it back and you were absolutely right so thanks for commenting and helping me improve the channels content. This time I tried harder with my music choices and longer in the edit, so I’m chuffed to bits that you feel it’s made a difference. Thanks again for taking the time to give me your feedback, it’s genuinely appreciated. Glad you enjoyed the video. 🙏
You should take a trip down to the Somerset levels, the river tone floods most winters and is flooded over at the moment. That’s a real challenge
Yeah, the predator fishing looks epic down that way. Too many venues too little time!!!! 👍
Great vid nick as always , thanks for the oil tip . Giving it a go .
Great Vid, with some very useful tips, great mix
Great video 👍
Cheers mate! 👍👍👍
Cracking vlog and session buddy, you look in your element now the perch season is back. And again content delivered impeccably and in a way that makes all your vlogs exceptional to watch. Have a great week and Best wishes and stay safe and well to you and your family buddy
Such kind words. Thank you mate. Was a bit worried that it was a bit technical in places so good to hear that you still found it interesting. Thanks for taking time to comment. Look after yourself. Made my evening 😁
@@Lifeonthebank thankyou and you are welcome buddy, and it was nice to return the favour as your vlog made my week. No you have the rare ability of adding technical stuff in a succinct manner which is greatly informative and really interesting to viewers.
This gives me some very good ideas 😉👍
Excellent. It's us against the fish mate!!! Good luck!
@@Lifeonthebank knowing how tricky the upper Thames has been any edge will help
Thank you Nick another interesting video. Can you further explain what the small 'sinker's' are at either end of the rig...
You can get these from Avid or Korda. Google ‘Korda Sinkers’👍👍👍
He’s a believer now 😉 pimp my lure. Top video mate. Awesome Perch.
I think you deserve some credit for that one mate 😂 The result of suddenly rubbing shoulders with some bloody good anglers! 👍👌
I'm for the tech stuff any new ideas always welcome, I've just added some float stops to my lure bag on the strength of it, may try the scent bit too got loads of those in my match tackle. Still looking for my first 3 pounder.
Good stuff. I hope it helps put a few fish on the bank for you!!! Thanks for checking it out.
Cheers for these tips! I hate it when anglers keep secrets from others! 👍🍺🍺
It's us against the fish mate!!! Good luck, keep me posted!
@@Lifeonthebank will do mate! Keep up the good work!!
Bravo
Flexibility and adaptability on the bank are always a good thing, if you're actually out there to catch fish! I've been blanking for weeks! Then, yesterday, a bag of good fish with 2 or 3 x 1 lb +. Pink or white grub and paddle tails are working up here
👍👍👍 you got lots of flood water up there?
@@Lifeonthebank Yeh,! Couple of days rain a week.
Fantastic Nick👌👌👌
Thanks mate. Appreciate you checking it out!
Nice Redfins
Hey Nick. Great vid mate. Inspiring me to go out this weekend. What GoPro settings do you use? Res, format, looping? Cheers - Si
Thank you mate. Go Pro Hero 7. Res: 1440, Fps:24, FOV: Wide. No looping. Hop that helps mate!
@@Lifeonthebank Thanks Nick :)
Great video once again and I thought the balance of technical rig talk and fishing was bang on. I’m new to lure fishing for perch so love learning. Wondering if you have any plans to do a perch lure video on canals anytime soon please? I mainly fish canals so interested in how you approach these too. Thanks 👍🏼
Excellent. Good to know that people don't just want non-stop action! Thanks.
Enjoyed watching you catch some decent fish... all I can catch is small ones at the moment
Keep going mate ... it will happen! 👍
Would like too see you fish with the Z man tubes for perch.
Hi mate always watching your channe good solid content I really struggle for perch any tip eg best style of lyre for these colder month pal
Excellent video really enjoyed.whete did u get wacky worm from?
I’m using a squirrel tail by big bite baits 👍👍👍🙏
Hiya Nick, great vid as always. I have been doing well on the reggiez of late with a fair few nice fish banked. I have always been careful to keep separate floatex colours in separate containers as I have had z-man lures colour bleed into each other turning all the lures into a brownish dull colour. I notice you have a bag of different colour squirmz all mixed up. Have you noticed the colours running at all? Would help me get WAY more lures in the box (that I’ll probably never use! 🤦♂️)
They stay ok actually. The white ones will discolour though.
Nick nice video you have to experiment and play around i think especially in these conditions, i had great success using the Tokyo rig especially for perch on my local canal i started using the Tokyo at the end of summer and it's getting great results so i don't see the need to change a winning combination at the moment stay safe mate, para
Thanks! Nice mate, like that!!! You ever used the a Jika? Great when it gets really cold!
Same here Bud. Tokyo has been doing it for me. Keeps the lure out of dying-off weed. Tight lines 👍
@@paulharris6886 yes absolutely paul i have made 6 all different lengths it's a great rig, paul
@@Lifeonthebank nick no never tried it,para
@@delwigzieful Have a go mid winter, once the bottom is completely clear ;)
Absolute top notch Video fella!! Can I ask where’d you get your Mikes anchovy oil from?
Cheers
JB
Hi Nick, just watched the video again👍 but how do you fish Texas where there could be pike?
Loving the perch masters series although this year I’ll soon be on the tench
Hello mate. I would avoid the Texas rig if there’s a good chance of hooking pike mate. Maybe fish with a trace and standard jig head but get some noise into the lure itself. 👍
Just back from a flooded river evening session ;-) Have you ever had any luck at night time?
I’ve caught plenty just after dusk but not ever really fished into the night.
Thank you for posting, this was interesting and thought provoking!
Question if i can.
I have been fishing the cheb rig with buoyant lures and this suits my location as it is weedless and nicely slips across the weed and all the other other rubbish on the bottom.
However, as its getting colder i am slowing things down but would still like to impart a bit more movement in the lure. Therefore i am planning to experiment by having about an inch of line between a texas weight and the buoyant soft plastic on the worm hook. I'm hoping this will still be weedless but will also allow the lure to just sit above or on top of the rubbish and wave in the current without looking too unnatural.
Much appreciate to know if you've tried this or have any thoughts?
Sounds like a mini Carolina rig. Sounds like it would work perfectly to me! Let me know how you get on! 👍👍👍
@@Lifeonthebank thanks, will do
Hey Nick, do you (and if so:how?) get rid of the abnormal plastic/rubber smell those soft baits usually have?
A fair number of lures I use have been scented slightly by the manufacturer. I then also sometimes boost this with oils as mentioned in this video. Anchovy and Earthworm oil words well. www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/product/atlas-mikes-extra-strength-glo-scent-earthworm-oil/ I hope that helps 👍
@@Lifeonthebank thx a lot Nick!
Hi Nick great video where can I by the glass beads from cheers
Thanks mate. There you go!
www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/product/agm-brass-glass-combo-worm-weight-7g-black-5pcs-beads/
What worm would you recommend for wacky style perch great video thanks
😂
Squirrel Tail, Big Bite Baits 👌👌👌
Hello mate, just wondered what size weedless hook you are using here?
Cheers
Food for thought there. Is the rig mad, no (not saying you aren't 😜) nearly the best of all three rigs and if you are searching saves messing about until an effective method is identified. Think it could be utilised in other situations rather than just coloured water, ie over different substrates or low lying weed(floating lure twithed just above it) adjust as necessary.
Too technical no, seeing just fish after fish pulled out (especially big ones 🤢 not jealous honest) can be monotonous, how can we justifiably agree, disagree or comment without the what how and why.
Nice one mate, thanks 🙏
Great video very informative and helpful. Can you link or refer to the tungsten weight that fits on that fly hook? Thanks
Thank you mate. Here you go...

Cool.....where can I get those glass rattles?
Hope this helps - www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/?s=Glass&post_type=product
Hiya nick great vid im just getting into lure fishing and found your channle and im learning alot from you so thank you and keep up the great work. I really wanna go lure fishing this autumn/winter iv always fished for carp in spring/summer then just not fished in winter. Im dying to get out on the river but i dont have a spinning rod till atleast Christmas. My question is. Can i get away with lure fishing with an 11 ft feeder rod? Iv got lures, wire trace ect. Just not a spinning rod. Should i give it a crack? Or just wait till after Christmas?
Give it a go mate! Don’t wait. Get out there and enjoy your fishing!!! Hope you bag a biggun! 👍👍👍
@@Lifeonthebank thanks nick i will do then with your blessing. If i catch anything atall ill let you know. Till then, ill see you in the next one my friend. Much love.
I fancy trying the texas rig out. What size weight would you generally go for and where do you get the components from?
www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/product/agm-brass-glass-combo-worm-weight-7g-black-5pcs-beads/
I have 7g, 5g and 3g and what I use depends on the flow in the river.
Thanks for the link. I’ll have a look at that and order some bits to try and hopefully get chance to get out soon and try it
What size hook do you go for with the reggie style baits?
What gram rod was you using here
Korum SoSolid Rod, 2g - 12g. I hope that helps! 👍👍👍
@@Lifeonthebank do you think the Korum so solid 7ft 3-15g would be able to give trout and perch a good fight but be able to land pike ?
hi what glass beads do you use?,
You can get brass and glass combo kits from AMG - www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk
Hope that helps!
Nearly 5lb was my biggest perch had a canny few 4lbers and god knows how many 3 and 2lbers live and dead baits always got me the much bigger fish.
Yeah, I agree. Live bait does seem to catch the real bigguns more consistently.
