Dominic Toretto circa 1925.
The engine and transmission were effectively the chassis. Lol.
100kgs of fuels, and 10kgs of lubrication oil? How many gallons per mile?
@@BramBiesiekierski Irrelevant, all tractors have crap mpg due to reduction and gearing. What matters is gallons per hour during work, which I doubt its that much worse for this engine compared to similar cc more modern tractors.
A friend has a Lanz and he let me drive it. Was fun when we drove it at max rpm, it felt like it was about to explode - and then an elderly woman overtook us on her bicycle. 😂
There's some with changed gearing, that go dangerously fast.
LOL

The sound of a single cylinder hot bulb engine is so satisfying, and the amount of torque that they produce never fails to impress.
Still smoother than a VW 3-pot. 😂
Lmao 1.4tdi is utter crap
And more reliable
Dude!
Legend 😂😂😂
What the hell is a 3 pot??
My previous neighbour has one of these. When he drives under the trees in my old street it starts raining leafs. I don’t miss much about my old house but I do miss his tractor.
Wow, I did not expect a video on the hot bulb Landinis! Those little mules are still quite popular here in Italy in fairs and historical re-enactments, they are amazing!
I want to visit and experience one in operation!
i'm italian
my great-grandfather had one (it's still somewhere, they sold it ages ago).
i've never seen one, but it made me happy to see one run.
it's also cool to see landini mentioned, my family is somewhat "attached" to landini, out of 4 tractos we have now 3 are landinis (one new one and two older, better, ones).
Di dove sei? 40km a nord di Torino ne abbiamo uno ✌️😁
Italian version of the famous Lanz Bulldog tractor
Wouldn't the Lanz be a German version of notri Landini?
It's the opposite.
when you stall with such a heavy piston, it must shake a lot
it doesnt stall lol. the engine will shake the tractor back and forth. and itll run backwards as well
It probably jumped just turning it off
Doubt you could stall it, probably start wheel hopping.

I can't wait for Allen Millyard to make a V-Twin.
That was really interesting and well researched.
You were initially very unsure of narrating in English. It's been some time and you're doing great. Nice accent, good pacing and intonation.
Landini, love that they bounce up and down when idling!
True, thanks!
So much torque, chasis twisted off the line.
How about a video on Ford industrial and agricultural engines from the 70's? Those 3 cylinder diesels are practically indestructible...
I saw or much rather heard a Lanz bulldog while doing a rest stop on our vacation trip, it's a fascinating machine and it's good to see that they are still running.
But in Germany we really have lively tractor communities and people mostly small farmers still using there decades old machines sometimes.
I knew the engine by the top of that piston. Always been a fascinating engine to me.
Been watching your videos for years. Love your passion for engines
Old School " Let's get shit done......" .
Ha you ring. I'm ready
there is something majestic about the old single piston engines...I wish we had more of these
Get a field marshal and run amsoil interceptor 2 stroke oil
Very interesting video thanks, love the tractor wheelies that were possible with these 😂
You should try watching tractor pulling!
I haven’t seen one of your videos for ages (bloody youtube)….Ive missed you!
I grew up on one of these and my family still has a couple of running ones, there is also a lot of people who tune these tractors and plow with them, they spit so much fire it's funny
making a twin cylinder out of these engines would be wild. Imagine the torque
Visio Racer, is on fire with these great videos!!! Thank you once again! Excellent video👍👍
Enjoying the videos, keep up the good work man.
4:08 looks like a 100% safe position to put your hand 😂
Next video could be about a post-war British tractor called a Field Marshal, which had a single cylinder engine that was burning diesel {it was a two stroke] keep thinking it had some design cues from the Lanz Bulldog. I've seen quite a few Field marshal tractors at various agricultural shows.
The Landini is I think based on the Bulldog.
We've got a couple of Field Marshalls along with Track Marshalls (same but tracks instead of wheels) at the yard interesting in that you can start them with a blank shotgun cartridge and a hammer, don't half shake though when they're ticking over.
I had a Lanz Bulldog driving infront of me, I must have looked like a 5 Year old on Christmas as I gave him Thumbs up 😂
It was widely used for boat thugging along rives too. For that purpose they were custom modified to accommodate a fourth gear. Something that even Landini engineers couldn't believe it was possible.
God, imagine the kind of power that thing could have if a turbo or supercharger was bolted onto it
That's terrific
I don't think so. These engines seem to have most power on low rpms, and the longer they run, the more heated they get, and ignition timing shifts, and power is lost, especially on high rpm. It's not your regular diesel, it's a hot bulb oil diesel. However, a blower would help: these engines suffer from mediocre cylinder ventilation, and process efficiency drops.
The fact it can cycle ten times a second is very impressive
That flywheel could be it's own continent holy crap
Simple to maintain and repair. Multifuel capable by design.
Look straight on in front it looks like a grasshopper 🦗
Torque and vibration are not same thing. If these were well balanced and counter weighted they would run a lot smoother. Just in 1920 this was not archivable.
The ultimate thumper.
Bello il Landini❤ sei un buon intenditore😉😊
That hopping is not a result of torque, but rather from inertia of the reciprocating assembly. Similarly, when you rev a stationary car and it rocks, thats inertia of the rotating assembly, not torque. It takes almost no torque to rock a car.
I have never heard of the weight measurement of quintals?
So technically, it's not "on the road", it's in a field. When I saw a tractor, I thought, "wait a minute, something that loud, slow and vibrates that much and it's not a Harley? 😜😜😜
Landini super velite 40-50 hp and 575 nm. I mean new tractors with 300 hp and 1450 nm -> 40-50 hp 200-241 nm.
A single cylinder thumper. Kept expecting the Dune Sand Worms to appear :D
"hey my tractor needs cylinder maintenance"
"which cylinder needs work?"
"the"
If you love machines, you see the art - but in 2024, OSHA has a stroke, and the dolphins cry.
It doesn't "make so much torque the entire vehicle bounces", the bouncing has nothing to do with how much torque it has. The reason it bounces is because it's a very large 1 cylinder engine, so the piston moving up and down weighs a lot and bounces it around. If it had multiple cylinders instead of one big one it could make the same amount of torque but not bounce because as some cylinders went up others would be going down and they'd balance each other out. It just bounces because it has a large heavy thing moving up and down inside of it and inertia works as expected.
Horsepower: 5
Torque: YES
I f_cking LOVE these beautiful sexy tractors .
Lanz Entwicklungsingeniuer Fritz Huber: "Ein Schlepper kann nicht einzylindrig genug sein" (A tractor can never be single-cylinder enough). Lanz/Landini rulez! 😊
Hand wheel with spokes on that flywheel, nice to loose a hand or some fingers.
Does it really rev lower than a Field Marshall ? that's a single cylinder 2-stroke diesel tractor too... you start it with a shotgun cartridge
LANDINI TESTACALDA MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗿🗿
...so much torque, they don't actually drive anywhere, they just move the planet below them..
14.3 Liters of displacement for 40hp is so adorable xD
The Cow (Tractors) from Cars 😂
Never heard of landidni or whatever in my land, it's International, Case, and John Deer, we don't hear about other brands from other lands because they don't stack up to the murikan made stuff lol.
You don't hear about other brands from other lands brcause you don't know other lands exist.
Tourque has nothing to do with the tractor “jumping”.
Incredible ingenuity. It was neat to see the women running the tractors too.
You should cover the Case 150, the most powerful steam tractor in the world. It can plow 50 John Deere deep plows, a pass that is 60' wide.
Very interesting engine! Thank you.
Fascinating engine! Thanks for sharing this amazing content!
Wish we could go back and start making simple mechanical stuff again.
Could these also be run with reversed crank rotation as the Lanz Bulldogs? I've seen videos of Lanz's in just the right engine state, switching between forward and reverse crank rotation with every stroke, effectively reaching zero rpm with the engine still running...
Yes
That vibration is no joke
I love this video! Good job!
That sounds so awesome
How much gas does a 14L 1 cylinder use under full throttle, every second?
I had a land for years it turned a mixture of diesel fuel and used oil that I collected from local garages. also there was a Hungarian tractor named hsv I think ,all were copies of the lanz designs . Lanz supplied tractors to their army to carry freight they were a longer model named highway bulldogs
I know it's "outdated", yei I would be quite curious to try a hot-bulb tractor
That engine can run at zero rpm.. it bounces back and forth about 80% of its travel in one direction, and then backwards 80% going back and forth like that making it idle at zero RPM
400+ torque from a single piston. pretty wild. what was the compression?
Pretty low, between 3:1 to 5:1 max
what about those zero rpm tractors? where the piston doesn't even make a full revolution at idle, it goes 98% of the way, and then goes the other way
pretty sure those are single cylinder but I could be wrong
Oliver Wendell Douglas may be contacting you for recommendations.
gear up a simple 130 HP gas engine to 1 km/h top speed, and it could pull whole world. The gearing is the answer, not the torque numbers.
As soon as a I saw the video title I knew what it would be about.
Interesting, and thank you. Peace be unto you.
It's not the torque that makes it bounce, it's the equal and opposite force generated by the crankshaft counterweight around TDC/BDC.
Sir.. doesnt the big piston need a counter balancer? Yes. Its the tractor ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿'̿'\̵͇̿̿\з= ( ▀ ͜͞ʖ▀) =ε/̵͇̿̿/’̿’̿ ̿ ̿̿ ̿̿ ̿̿
I've never heard of a unit of weight measurement called a "quintel". How many pounds/kg per quintell?
These centry old machines run like they just rolled off the assembly line. All mechanical operation yet today machines need computer for everything to run "effieiently" and have more problems😂
Isn't the Lanz capable of running at 0 RPM? Basically going back and forth at top dead center, without achieving a complete revolution? If I remember well it's even the way to go in reverse : by reversing engine rotation after getting it balanced at a 0 rpm idle.
yeah indeed bulldogs can idle a 0rpm.
ua-cam.com/video/6OrhwQzddXQ/v-deo.html
its not even remotely about torque, its about balancing of rotating mass. This thing shakes itself apart not because of power but because its actually wasting a ton of power that it would have otherwise if it weren't so unbalanced. your bias is obvious and its why germany both started two wars and got epicly pwned in both of them, get smart
Isnt the lowest revving 1 cylinder the Benz Patent Motorwagen?
These tractors , including the Lanz, can run at zero revs.
Beat that
ua-cam.com/video/g3whJ0ZdMP0/v-deo.html
It remember me of 2 old motocross I had, both 1 cylindre 600cc a yamaha TT600 and a honda XR 600
They were monsters.
The bouncing is due to imbalance, not torque. It can´t make torque if it´s not loaded, just enough to make itself run.
This is why i always ask the torque instead of hp. Sure if a car has 1000hp who cares. Now if it has 1000ftlbs of torque now you have my attention
This is why I always ask the power curve instead of torque or hp. Sure if a car has 1000 Nm of torque who cares. Now if it has 70% of its maximum torque available over the entire high rev range now you have my attention
Dodge Ram Cummins and Ford Powerstroke enthusiasts enter the chat.
Torque x rpm = hp !
@@5co756 thats why hp isnt impressive when you have to rev to 8k to get any power. Give me all the torque off idle
@@cowthedestroyer Depends on what you are doing with an engine , pulling heavy stuff you need max. torque at low rpm . Driving a race car you need your max torque way higher up , were you mostly run the engine .
Best vid ever
It was very good yes. Some great footage there.
@@MattBrownbill It’s why I love the channel
It isn't torque making the thing jump around, it's inertia, the tractor is moving around the piston.
Every model rocket I'v ever launched has been a one cylinder, and operated at 0 RPM.
Thanks for another interesting video Visio. 👍
Nice to hear you again 💪👍
These are so unbelievably cool! First word was ‘tractor’. Been in love with machinery my entire existence. Now my kids have the genetic predisposition toward machinery. My son especially loves tractors because of the Cars movies. Kid is happier than a fly on ʇıɥs when he gets access to the real machines! Obsessed with garbage trucks, but he digs his backhoes and farm tractors near his grandparents place.
Me. I just go silent and stare. Revere.
Going to have him see this tomorrow!
As always, great work!
do they still make these to this day
Can they blow smoke rings, like the Bulldog?
Nope that's because the landini made a special shape exhaust with the tip curved and flattened in order to prevent oil being thrown at the driver like Lanz and SFV exhausts do.
I want one in our M3 race car ❤
one of my favourite yt channels!
one cilinder making jump a tracto, have no sense 😂😂😂
They would pull them out of retirement if a big solar flare hit and blew all the electronics ..
Good memories of my first track day when I used 6th gear down a straight and forgot to down shift.
I'm pretty sure there are lower revving 1 cylinder steam powered vehicles on the road.
I feel like if you tried doing a torque test, the torque test would break.
If you get this engines revs way way way down you could probably make it turn backwards wich enabels you ro run without reverse gear. Many older ships did this. I can tell you guys it is actually very funny playing with such an engine. You make it nearly spin backwards and then let it spin the "normal" way again. It makes a very "funny" and unique sound(:
How do I know? Got a degree in qhip building and repair which requires you to also be able to work on all sorts of engines.
99% sure Lanz Engines reverse rotation. They will even run at “0 Rpm” where they never make a full rotation, just bounce back and forth between TDC. No idea about the landini. I’ve sailed on direct reversing big old Sulzers and B&W’s. Pretty cool stuff.
@@FlatBroke612 old Buch 1 cylinders is also able to be played around with.
