    God I remember the Valley of the Flood rumours. I think "wanted to believe" is a good way to put it, because it just sounded so cool. And it's so rare that Nintendo fills gaps in the Zelda timeline like that, so a lot of us were just really hoping that it would break the trend

      I vaguely remember hearing about Valley of the Flood back in middle school, I never believed it because they had a Wind Waker sequel in Phantom Hourglass. Though it's funny how some of the ways Link would have been able to travel in this 'new Zelda ' did eventually make it into the series with 2009's Spirit Tracks and of course 2011's Skyward Sword. I guess they do sometimes listen to rumors as well as fans for their next big ideas

    Valley of the Deluge is still probably my favorite fake gaming leak from back in the day, rivalling even Nintendo On. I remember knowing it was fake even before reading that fake interview, but I always loved the idea of someone straightup lying to themselves saying they're the Hero of Time and ultimately failing as the overworld dynamically gets flooded over the course of the game.

      Dude I remember those leakes about Valley of the Flood/Deluge. It was dark enough to be believable as a Zelda game but too edgy to actually be real
      Bur honestly the concept would work great in today's open world Zelda formula and Wind Waker shows not all heroes are Link reborn so it's be cool if by the end of the game when the world ifls flooding, the goddesses reveal him to be a true hero or something like that :V

    • @Nintokis
      @Nintokis 9 місяців тому +1

      @@SeekerNami It was definitely pretty edgy, but I think that's why I liked it so much. Like the idea that you're some guy who's fooled himself into thinking he's the hero just sounds like a really neat hook for a game. Plus the overworld flooding as you "fail" each dungeon just sounded like a really interesting way to keep the exploration fresh, though having a game where the hero ultimately fails definitely feels like a hard sell.

    • @SeekerNami
      @SeekerNami 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Nintokis True, knowing Nintendo, even if there's a huge audience willing to see the protagonist fail (it's not a new concept in games after all and I bet quite a few would like to see Link lose), they'd never do it. I mean, they had a game where the hero and the champions lose at the very start of the story, they MADE a prequel of sorts and still had the day saved by contrived devices instead of you know, giving us an epic and sad end to the story.
      I loved the edginess too. The same reason you liked it are why I got hooked to the idea. And like in the end Nintendo would find an equally contrived way of getting that delusional guy into saving the day at some point if they wanted :v

    I remember hearing about Valley of the Deluge years ago. The rumor I saw speculated it to be not just a Wind Waker prequel, but also a Twilight Princess sequel. In retrospect that'd be impossible, but as someone who holds the opinion the Zelda timeline was mostly made up long after all the pre-Skyward Sword games were made it wasn't completely out there for the time. That said, even with my opinion on the timeline, I think the split does the best job of explaining why Hyrule was flooded: the Hero ceased to exist in that timeline. Not simply dead, he left the timeline all together so he couldn't reincarnate

    In regards to the Zelda Mobile game, I can almost certainly say that a "Pokemon GO-styled Shrine Hunting Game" is NOT what would have been made. My reason? The company behind it.
    Nintendo were working with DeNA, NOT Niantic. Pokemon GO and the often forgotten Pikmin Bloom were done by Niantic, so Nintendo wouldn't just throw all of that data away. Considering MKT, FEH, and ACPC were done under the DeNA partnership, the Zelda Mobile Game more than likely would have followed a similar structure. As for the gameplay, who knows, but gacha like FEH or PMEX doesn't sound like the way they'd go.

    I think the one who made up Valley of the Flood based it on the rumors and speculation from way back during Twilight Princess initial reveal. Since there was basically no official information regarding the timeline at all, many people thought the new Zelda game would have to be a Wind Waker prequel and would therefore have to end with Link failing and being forgotten. So when the VotF rumors started appearing, I thought it was just someone who had really wanted those old theories to be true and tried to get people talking about them again.

    11:02 It's the meme!
    The name Project Deluge sounds familiar. (Kinda reminds me of that one campaign that got Xenoblade Chronicles a US release.) However, if they swapped Eiji Aonuma with Yoshiaki Koizumi when it comes to story, that interview would probably be a bit more accurate. That guy did stuff for Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask.
    Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention any old magazine scans of an SNES Adventure of Link remake (which I know existed as magazine scans), much less brought up the Gigaleak of a platform-game Link, or that one Adventure of Link song in some of the SNES test carts. Then again, this video is about rumors.

    I think the Zelda Mobile game would've just simply been a kind of puzzle game, maybe with simple dungeon exploration, perhaps even with randomly generated layouts. But some kind of puzzle focused/based gameplay makes the most sense to me. I get the feeling it would've also used a Toon Link rather than BotW Link, especially if it was 3d- the simpler design and lower poly-count it would require would run better on a wider range of mobile phones than a more detailed one I imagine. Toon Link would've probably also been chosen to appeal to younger audiences or their parents, since it is a very cute and child-friendly design, while BotW Link could've been seen as maybe being more "Teen friendly" to parents unfamiliar with the series. I don't REALLY know much at all about marketing or game development though, for all I know they would've stuck with the BotW design for synergy or something.
    In the end though it REALLY is purely speculation, of course, lmao.

Still all you show in your video are informations that seems impossible to find, so I guess you're my only hope.

    Weird, I haven't heard of Project Deluge/Valley of the Flood, closest I heard of was a Zelda game with a futuristic setting that wasn't the original plan for Zelda 1 or LttP but something further down the line, I forget exactly when it was, though it was at least after Twilight Princess.

    Speaking of fake Zelda rumors: does anyone else remember around 2007-2011 there were rumors that Bungie (yes, THAT Bungie) were going to be making a sci-fi Zelda game? It might have been from some obscure gaming magazine I read as a kid. I remember there was this art (probably stolen fanart or something) of Link in this green futuristic armor like Master Chief and he was riding a motorcycle or hoverbike. I tried googling this and couldn't find anything. Am I crazy or does anybody know what I'm talking about?

      They covered this on the channel, there were 2 Zelda side games that Western studios (Retro and one other I think) pitched to Nintendo iirc. One didn't really get past the concept and the other was pitched with a really boring combat demo, so neither came to fruition.

    I remember hearing something about a cancelled Wind Waker prequel where you'd play as Tetra, specifically focusing on the brief backstory mentioned in the game of them taking Forsaken Fortress, saying it would be some puzzle strategy game.
    However, it was several years ago that I saw a single video mentioning it, so I'm not sure if it was a rumour, if the rumour was just "a Wind Waker prequel" and the rest was speculation or wishes, or if there was no rumour and just fan wishes. I believe the channel was GameOver Jesse.
    Can anyone figure out what I'm talking about and tell me if I'm remembering right?

    The most hilarious thing about that Project Deluge interview is how bullshit it is if you've seen and read orher interviews with Aonuma; he's very much in Miyamoto's camp of gameplay over story. Plus that whole thing reads like an edgy 15 year old wrote it.

    I remember there being a lot of discussion about the Valley of the Deluge rumor, but I never saw anyone point out the obvious reason it was fake: It makes no sense to occur at the point in the timeline that it was stated to. The interview made it clear that Hyrule was going to be flooded during the events of this game, and that it would take place between OOT and WW. But the issue with that is that Hyrule isn't flooded until the end of Wind Waker. Until then, it's preserved, perfectly dry and intact using some kind of magic to keep the ocean from falling on it.
    For a Zelda game that supposedly was being made with story as a major component and taking place in a clearly stated part of the timeline, such a blatant contradiction wouldn't be overlooked. Yet, I don't remember anyone else bringing this up, despite many thinking that it was fake.

  • @bigangenbygang

    I can see why people wanted to believe in Valley of the Flood. That sounds like a really cool game. I now want to see it get made! Though honestly, the whole concept of a random kid taking up the mantle of the Hero was already done in Wind Waker, since the WW timeline is devoid of the original Hero's spirit.

    Honestly for how obviously fake the leak for Project Deluge is, the actual pitch of a game taking place in that setting would be cool to see and the concept of some random thinking they're the Hero of Legend *was* good enough for Hyrule Warriors to use for Linkle (a very underused, underexplored character all things considered).

    People say that Zelda mobile took the form of Guardian Tales behind the scenes, the game even has so many Nintendo references like they got the IPs, but it's not developed by Nintendo, but same out the same year that people said it would come out, this makes people believe the zelda mobile game turned into Guardian Tales after Nintendo cut ties with them and scrapped the zelda part of the project, so they reused assets and made it Guardian Tales.
