How amazing to hear Jim Keltner explain about playing behind Bob and the 'halo' effect whereby the light was shining through his hair. I have remarked on that myself on UA-cam and wondered if I was the only crazy one seeing it. Nobody else ever commented so THANKS Jim!
The chaos of playing with Bob is definitely not for everyone. Ian Maclagan's account in his autobiography is worth a read. And I once read a fascinating interview with Mike Bloomfield saying he had no time for how Bob works as a bandleader. If I remember the interview correctly, It's the reason Mike never worked with Dylan after 1965. Mike really laid into Bob, and he had none of that fanboy "Hey, it's just Bob, go with it", bullshit.
Great video - thanks! But you need to push the book more! I had to stop the video and go back to the microsecond you hold the book up to get the title! Otherwise good stuff! Don't be afraid to hawk your product!!!!
Thanks so much for replying. Your Dylan MTV Unplugged performance was so awesome. I’ve watched it multiple times. One of my favorite Dylan albums for sure..
Winston's stories are always full of good humor. It was worth the extra effort to listen. (Hi, Winston, it's David in Italy. Hope to see you with Howe or XIXA if you tour here sometime this year).
This was GREAT!! What is the book you guys mention?
Pledging My Time: Conversations with Bob Dylan Band Members (out now!)
It was awesome to be on this session and get to ask Stan a question - and to hear what all these legends had to say. Thanks for setting this up, Ray.
"That 13- bar blues..." like Lightnin' Hopkins. My heart goes out to these intuitive drummers.

Clapton said the same about the Desire session he was at: chaos!
“You can colour outside the lines and no-one cares…” brilliant description of a rare but cherished working method.
I'm enjoying your book as hell, Ray. Thought you were so much older...
