This is one of Tom Cruise's best films in his career, it's a disappointment that he didn't win an Oscar for playing a complicated role. The Oscars are a joke.

He should have got an oscar for this. Just outstanding as an actor.

The SCARIEST story of all time IMO. The film version is seriously my greatest nightmare.

@@mrmusickhimself The most haunting scene for me are the soldiers at the train depot playing '21' with Jesus Christ. All of them explaining how they'll die and waiting for the train to take them to their appointed deaths.

The doctor is played by Bob Gunton, who later appeared as Warden Norton in Shawshank Redemption.

Here is another thing about Bob Gunton. He also served in Vietnam an an RTO in the 2nd Battalion 501st 101 Airborne Division.
He was in the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord in 1970.
Funny thing the REAL Ron Kovic was also an RTO in real life in the Marines and served in that role on his first tour in December 1965 to January 1967.

:30, a blunt and unsympathetic doctor instead of a corrupt warden. That’s a step up to being a decent person!
