i am working very loosely and use small buttons
if you have problem so you can make button holes skip st and make chain for button holes. after 8 or 10 rounds repeat the same way. i always work very loose that the button insert easily on them

i used small buttons for the sweater its easily push on the stitches. but if you want to make little button holes so (make 1 single crochet then make chain one, skip one chain and make 2 sc in next 2 stitches). repeat the work after 6 or 8 rounds
