      the line that really does it is "What we do today will be tomorrow's news." I'm honestly amazed that this and Do You Hear the People Sing? from Les Mis don't get used as protest songs more often.

    *I love how David* *is just walking around* *watching everyone like he wasn't* *informed that this is a musical* 😂 he was probably thinking " 0.o WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING? WHY ARE YOU SINGING. OMG NO. WHY ARE YOU DANCING. STAP. I WASN'T INFORMED THAT THIS IS A MUSICAL. GUYS. HEY GUYS . STAP IT." Then at the end he is just kinda like "So this is a musical now. _-_"

    David: Jack, no.
    Jack: Jack, yes!
    Actually, no, that's the whole movie.
    But, I seriously can't get over David's face throughout this song. He's so done, and it's hilarious. (Especially when Jack grabs him by the shoulders, omg)

      Katie Norton same here. It was one of the first musicals I had ever truly appreciated. I even tried to make my nine/ten year old friends watch it at my birthday party. It didn't go well as most of them didn't really like musicals and it just ended up being a bunch of third grade girls pow-wowing about how cute (some even said hot... but then again, we were weird third graders) the boys in the movie were. But, just recently the script company that our county uses has finally gotten Newsies and I'm dying for it to be Newsies.

    things about Jack Kelly that I wish they didn't change for the stage;
    -his hat
    -his scarf
    -his hopefulness (true he has a lot of hope in the stage production but in the movie it was WAYYY more present!)
    Side notes;
    When Davey says "we can't beat up kids in the streets, it'll give us a bad name!" and Crutchie shouts "can't get any worse!"
    The World is the newspaper they work for so the song is a play on words for both The World Newspaper and the ACTUAL world! hehe XD

      Meghan Robertshaw they changed Jack’s look so much in the musical and it kinda sucks

    • @lokikoloki
      @lokikoloki 6 років тому +21

      They changed him from "Cowboy" to "starving artist" and I hate it. He was great the way he was.
      They also took out the scene where he meets David's parents, which is actually a pretty pivotal moment for Jack and the audience. It emphasizes his loneliness about not having a family like David does and leads him into "Santa Fe", except in the movie it's clear he doesn't really want to go there, he just thinks it's all he has left because, as he said, he has nobody waiting up for him at home, he has no family.
      So yeah, thanks for ruining my favorite character Disney

    • @faithmilitello9445
      @faithmilitello9445 6 років тому +35

      People always come for me when I say I like Jack better in the movie. I realize that Jeremy Jordans’s voice is better but that’s because he’s a Broadway actor. Christian Bale didn’t even know it was going to be a musical until after he agreed to be in it.
      In the musical Jack is very angsty and secretly artsy. (He seems a lot older than 17. Obviously because Jer Jor is not 17) In the movie Jack is more of a kid and it breaks my heart because he is so young and has to deal with all of this. He has no real family, he has a job that won’t get him anywhere, he wants to go to Santa Fe because it’s his only option at this point. They also took away his bandanna, and cowboy hat and the other boys don’t call him cowboy which I felt like gave Jack more of a connection with the other characters. Thank you for coming to my ted talk🤠

    i see a lot of people saying they like this better than the broadway version, but i like the broadway better - at least right now. i haven't watched the movie in ages and i can't remember it that well. i at least like the music bits from broadway better, they're a lot cleaner.
    edit: wait never mind i just watched carrying the banner and i like the movie better. broadway's still good, and i like some parts of that better than some parts of the movie, but there's just something about this.

      That's the issue. The vocals are too clean. You can hear the anger in this version. In the Broadway version not so much. This is much more nitty gritty.

    I don't think this film got nearly enough credit when it came out. There's some hiccups but they're few and far between and sometimes work to make the movie better like the weird edit of Duvall talking without sound after getting excited.. I think this story and film was made to echo the sentiments of the book, Think and Grow Rich, written by Napoleon Hill.
