I feel it's important to note, whilst WCW did fire Smith fo being "unable to perform" Diana reached out to Eric Bishoff to inform him of the servirty of the Bulldog's injury(he was in a full body cast at the time). Bishoff reinstated his contract and continuied paying him til it expired.
Wow, THAT sure was heartfelt and really made up for the damage done to Smith and his career. Never mind it was irresponsible to not pad the damned trapdoor ITFP, the initial victim-blaming firing or any of the other disrespectful BS that went on that night alone. It's all A-OK now that Smith got his scratch 'cause monetary reward means they truly care and fixes EVERYTHING. Yippie-kai-yay.
FFS.
@@CarbonRollerCaco I was just pointing out that they honered his contract. I wasn't excusing thier negligence.
@CarbonRollerCaco you know what makes it the worst of all? They had 2 fucking rings! Like don't work the other matches in the ring with the trap door. Wcw...

Wow I never knew that. Thanks
4:46 - "Warrior proceded to cut a 25 minutes promo when he was only alloted for 7." - That is the most Jim Hellwig thing I've ever heard of. And oh, boy! a 25 minutes Warrior promo?! Who _doesn't_ want to hear that?!
Seriously though, how did nobody put a stop to that by the 10 minutes mark?
Probably because the Warrior had creative control. WCW handed that out like candy.
@@supersasukemaniacwho had it other than Hogan?
@@supersasukemaniac Rumor I heard at the time was that Hogan found it hilarious and told production to let him go.
Watch Bischoff's reactions during this promo (he was in the ring with Hogan facing Warrior at the time). You can tell that after only a couple of minutes of Warrior rambling he is regretting giving him a live mic. Great idea on paper but yeaah he totally lost the crowd by droning on and on and making no sense while doing it.
The only wrestlers in WCW with creative control were Hogan and Bret Hart, and that was only veto control over their own characters and not complete control over the entire company.
@@MovieEnvy Sting and Flair. Maybe Macho?
You've never seen anything go from "Oh WOW" to "Oh NO" that fast as the Ultimate Warrior's WCW debut.
With October coming up, could you do The Worst WCW Halloween Havoc?
I'd love to see HH 95 ripped apart.
HAVOC 95 most definitely in the running for the worst PPV in WCW history
Or the worst wwe Halloween themed episode. There’s a few of those lol
Havoc 2000
not sure which is the worst but I can tell you for sure that it's certainly neither Havoc 97 or 98, they were both epics.
Saturn v Raven is a legit hidden gem. It was like watching a different show. For that match, and that match alone, the crowd was invested. The timing (which was critical to the storytelling) was perfection. The work was crisp from everyone involved (especially the two actual match-participants). The psychological beats actually made sense and the pay off actually mattered. The most un-WCW thing on the show. I reckon on another show Meltzer would’ve given it 3.75 or even 4 stars. The rest of the show dragged it down hard
The moment Saturn kicked out of the Even Flow DDT is in my top 5 near falls of all time. It was a huge deal.
Yes. If the PPV wasn't overall such a stinker, this would probably be remembered more. But then again for those who remember it maybe the match shines more bright also in part due to being the sole bright spot on a dismal show.
IMO the match is a classic, absolutely perfect, logical booking and a satisfying pay off to a long storyline. Which WCW almost never did so it's almost a weird anomaly they actually got it right like this in this match.
As a WCW fan at the time these final years felt like watching someone try and escape a grave…by digging.
"no no dig UP stupid"!
Occasionally they'd stop and ask if this was really how to fix things, at which point they'd get slapped in the head and everybody else would double down.
These final years?? 1998 in WCW was epic! 96-99 in WCW was the peak of the entire wrestling industry. The only bad year was the last full one, 2000, when Russo was in charge, but even that wasn't as bad as it's often made out to be.
You should check out Wrestling Bios channel and his Reliving The War series.
@@namikstudios I mean they started the year by botching Sting's babyface championship run, overshadowed Goldbergs with the Hogan celeb feuds, and then ended Starcade 98 with the conclusion of goldberg's run. And then began the following year with the fingerpoke of doom. That is epic. Not a good epic, just epic. My favorite bit is Nash trying to argue that Goldberg didn't get another run at the title verse the NWO elite because of his arm injury when he smashed that glass window. Kevin, baby. Goldberg smashed the glass and hurt his arm in 2000. I know I know. I get the confusion. You ran the same angle, with the same people (plus jeff jarrett so automatically worse) 1 year after the other, both at Starcade and the following Nitros.
Alot of the difference between the "modern"and "Classic" WCW WarGames was the rule change in the mid 90s when they changed it to allow matches to end by pinfall, putting an end to the Match Beyond, Submit or Surrender rules, which made for more dramatic matches.
WCW botching the Rick vs. Scott feud so badly was astonishing.
What’s funny to me if they didn’t make Scott such a coward in that feud it would have been insane!!!
It wasn't WCW who botched it, it was the brothers. They were strongly against having a feud with one another.
It is sad to, because the beginning of this match started off great!
@@namikstudios then you’re saying they’re unprofessional for having a garbage match because they were against a feud?
@@Mattyman1987 Scott still shouldn’t have been so cowardly in the feud, they could have had some bangers
Rick even said he knows how wild his brother could be back in the day lol they could have literally blown the roof off!!
"Orange Von Cockface" is my new favorite Hulk Hogan nickname.
I attended this PPV. Fans chanted 'REFUND' while leaving the arena.
They should have been compensated for being there
The raven flock story line is so underrated
Raven as a rich boy with sandman as his childhood friend was a killer angle
@@brettmajors69karaoke that was… honestly raven as a whole was so under appreciated and should of have had a main event push
Raven as a transitional US champion never made sense to me for two reasons:
- Raven deserved better
- We could have had Goldberg/DDP on a show where the feed wasn't cut.
@@brettmajors69karaoke The "shoot" behind the scenes with Raven, which was a work, but a shoot, .... Scottie knew how to work the fans in the internet age. As did New Jack. WCW management, not so much.
Imagine if they had the foresight to just have Bulldog/Neidhart v. Wright/Disco compete in the second ring (the one without the trap door), serious injury could've been avoided. Then you take every precaution during the War Games match to not have all your top stars (and Stevie Ray) not fall on the trap door.
and Stevie Ray! bahahahahahaha
WCW were usually pretty good with safety but yeah they probably shouldn't have had a trap door at all. I say they were safe because of how they took every precaution when Sting would come down from the rafters, compared to the shocking lack of safety that lead to Owen Hart's death in the WWE.
Didn't one of the Villanos suffer a severe neck injury on that trap door as well?
it probably would've saved Bulldogs life too, or give him so extra years. the increased drug use to numb the pain of that permanent back injury definitely factored into his 2002 death
Jericho went 3-0 vs Goldberg in WCW yet the announcers never acknowledged it and pretended that Goldberg still was in the middle if a streak
Chris Jericho was a Conspiracy Theory Victim
DDP wins war games and gets a shot at Goldberg if Goldberg can get the belt back from Jericho 😂
Chris Jericho Couldn’t Beat Goldberg. And WCW Never PUSH Little Guys.
My buddy pirated this PPV and when it was over he looked some and said “I stole this fucking pay per view and I got ripped off!”
Also F DAVE MELTZER & HIS BS RATING SYSTEM. Kurt Angle has ZERO 5 star matches but Kenny Omega has tons? That is BS!!!
In all honesty after the nwo became a thing and Bischoff was more focused on TV ratings their ppv bookings and build up became an afterthought usually thrown together with no world title match. Even after Goldberg became champion most of the PPVs had no actual build up for him and he was stuck in meaningless matches only his matches against DDP and Kevin Nash had any kind of build or importance. When you make someone champion that is red hot like that just for the sake of it and don't adjust your booking to focus on him then what's the point?
Yeah, well this is the company who only gave him the strap to pop a rating.
Legit the fact they had Goldberg and Hogan on regular TV still baffles me, I couldn’t imagine the buy-rate for that at the time
@@SCSAsJortsWhat I'm concerned about is giving Goldberg the championship, knowing he'd have to lose it, thus losing the streak and knowing that he had nothing else going, you know since he can neither cut a promo nor wrestle for more than 8 minutes. You don't even try and build up other aspects because don't be mistaken, when the streak ended, Goldberg in WCW did too.
I bet Fraser has a mirror on his ceiling...
I actually really love Fall Brawl '98. Jericho vs "Goldberg" was awesome! Especially Jerichos entrance!
This was the show that really put me off WCW PPV'S. I thought Bagwell's injury was a shoot, because they wouldn't spend THIS MUCH TIME ON A PPV, for an angle. Nope, this was WCW. Of course they would. Plus the awful Wargames, totally burying The Horseman.
Watch Hogan's finger. That finger will put the nails into the coffin.
@@princeofcupspoc9073
WCW evolve and do new things?
"That's gonna work brother"
Bischoff was so focused on beating Vince in the ratings, the pay-per-views really suffered.
Stevie Ray was so out of place 😂
So was ddp
If you look at all the others in the match,I’ve never been a DDP fan myself and I am aware of what he’s accomplished but he’s never been anything special in my eyes
Nah, he was in the right place. The place of the guy that looks at the lights at the finish.
I agree, it was a,weird choice for Hogan to pick him. There were other big guys that would have fit better (Giant or Bryan Adams), plus people who have more kayfabe trust & experience.
@@poopsyko
No, DDP was the top star in WCW at that time. It made perfect sense for him to be WCW captain.
I'm not going to argue about your opinion of him. You are entitled to that. He didn't have (or need) a flashy gimmick. He rose to the top being himself.
Perry Saturn vs Raven was such an underrated match. Rick and Scott had a great start to the match, but then it had to WCW it.
I don't think Scott wanted to work with Rick any more.
@@princeofcupspoc9073
So? Just get the match over with...
even if it has to end with a run in DQ BS typical WCW ending.
The crazy thing about wrestling is that sometimes you can tell that a show is going to be bad just by looking at the match card. As this retro review will prove that
The Jericho/Goldberg feud wasn’t “just dropped”, it ended during an interview segment on Nitro where Goldberg speared Jericho in the aisle way.
Wrestling fans love to see the drama in these things, if there's plenty of drama already they'll make it more dramatic by leaving things out or adding things in because wrestling fans feel fabulous 🤡
Wow, that.....doesn't seem much like an ending and seems like the still just dropped the Angle with no REAL payoff
@@crimsoncrescentmoonreviews5381 Because it was never an “angle” that was booked by Bischoff or his booking team. It was something Jericho just started doing. He’s (Jericho) had talked about it in his 1st book and in numerous shoot interviews over the years.
@@EvaFull except, it was, Gilburg was planned by the booking team, Jericho just turned a throwaway match against the fake Goldberg into a storyline.
Jericho wanted this farce to become a full on angle where it'd lead up to 'the greatest squash match of all time' at Halloween Havoc, but Goldberg said 'that doesnt work for me brother' and Eric said 'that doesnt work for me brother', and Hogan said 'that doesnt work for them brother'
a good angle that was getting over with the fans, and started with a throwaway match booked by Eric, became a waste of a whole month due to the ego of Greenburg
So no match… that means it was pretty much just dropped.
It just isn’t late 90s WCW without some major incompetence like say, the show being taken off the air before the main event has actually finished.😂
Jay Leno catching some time appropriate topical strays is incredible.
Wcws biggest downfall was the obsession of beating WWF in the monday night war. So many great PPV moments were ruined instead put on nitro for free. Example
Lex lugers world title win in 97 shouldve been done at the road wild ppv instead done on nitro
Remember, Bischoff never produced as a show for the fans. Every show was designed to impress the Turner/Time Warner executives. Ratings meant advertising meant money meant WCW would be allowed to continue.
No, WCW's downfall was not being able to evolve the way WWF did. While WWF was building new stars (they had Austin and then The Rock would follow) they were thinking Hogan would still work for them. That's the real reason the finger poke thing messed up the company.
Warrior busting out of the cage was cool. He kept up his intensity.
I had this show on VHS, because, for some reason, WCW put 1998/99 shows out on VHS when that was a thing. I believe starting with Bash at the Beach or Road Wild (whichever event of those was first) through to Uncensored 99. Or, at least, the shop I got them from had BATB, RW, FB, Halloween Havoc, Souled Out, and Uncensored 99. What a slide-whistle scale of declining shit-fuckery...
It wasn't just a WCW thing. WWF/WWE had been putting out their PPVs on VHS for years. When we first started dating, my wife had numerous ones.
The Jericho fued with Goldberg was never planned. Fall Brawl was a one night only deal to give Jericho something to do. Plus he it need have the JPS at that point he added them after this match. The angle was meant to continue until the next PPV at Jericho's instance but it stopped after getting speared on Nitro.
Jericho turned it into a money earning angle after the first Gilburg match, the fans loved it. Eric just didn't see Jericho as a guy who could do anything good, and Greenburg was just a big baby about the whole thing.
Jericho deserved better than WCW, and he got that in 1999, where he proved he could work and spearhead a big angle involving the main event scene.
This WarGames makes you glad that WWE and Vince McMahon decided against resurrecting it in 2002. The match had slowly become a shell of its former self.
Loving the series. One MINOR tweak I’d make (admittedly, I’m writing this after you’ve given the first lot of star ratings), their may be others like myself that listen to this on their headphones while working or doing another activity, so maybe it could be an idea to say the ratings given out loud?
Not a criticism in any way, just maybe a convenience
I think you should cover all the ppv events possible from that era from all the wrestling companies that were kinda popular
This is the show where bulldog landed on the trap door and trashed his back and it was all down hill from there and less than 4 years later he was dead. RIP ❤
I was looking at Meltzer's worst rated matches and the War Games match from this show was on it. I had completely forgotten which one it was. I was like, okay, Bret and DDP should be cool, okay, okay, oh no, oh no....
Bret & DDP were fine,
it was the rest of the guys that ruined the match.
That being said love this channel but it would be much better if highlights were included. Might have to fight wwe a bit but if the one man bios channel can do it you guys seem more than capable
Hey, Bret Hart was gone way before SummerSlam 1998! I won't stick up for Vince on much, but he can't turn back time!
I loved the nWo when it started but their 1997 Souled Out was the biggest misses I've ever seen. It was boring and didn't seem edgy or "real" at all. Eddie Guerrero vs Syxx's ladder match is underrated and the only reason to watch it.
From causing British Bulldog his career ending back injury, Rick/Scott's infuriating match end, and the confusing main event, this show was the farty pyro of farty pyro. At least it was the pre cursor to DDP/Goldberg at Halloween Havoc 98
*costing British Bulldog his career
I'm probably the only person to notice this - but the show was in Winston-Salem NC - but the picture of the skyline was Charlotte NC - about two hours away...
Great video though!!
Every sports show in the Chicago suburbs shows a shot of the Chicago lakefront at some point. Same thing.
Wrestling Bios’ Reliving the War just finished 1998, I’d forgotten what a dud Goldberg’s World title run was. He was basically on a Hogan schedule and had no real storylines or feuds, nothing much happened.
Why didn't they (WCW) have their wrestlers wrestle either in the other ring for the matches before WarGames or just make sure that they definitely don't do anything on that spot in the other ring with the trap door. That backdrop ultimately ended killing Davey Boy Smith, fuckin shame.
Bad PPV but Saturn vs Raven is a forgotten classic. It should get mentioned more often as it made Saturn a star - it didn't last but he was really over for a while after this, the result of the match disbanded the Flock which allowed Kidman to become a CW champ.
6:18 Today I learned that Stevie Ray is older than Warrior.
I absolutely couldn't take the 4 Horsemen seriously when Steve McMichael was part of the group.
Yeah, and I actually liked McMichael on the show. But no Tully, no Horsemen. I appreciate Flair wanted to help out the young guys, but it never worked. Tully WAS the arrogant personality that made it all click.
@princeofcupspoc9073 I wasn't into wrestling until after Tully's time. I just felt the 4 Horsemen were booked as an elite wrestling stable, and Steve McMichael was not that. There were far worse performers than McMichael, but there were a lot better, too. I thought Curt Hennig would have fit WAY better than he ever did in the NWO.
i always like da WcW Cruiserweight Championship
A Worst Wrestling Shows ever that *ISN'T* a WWE show? Is this bizarro world?
No! WWE isn't the only wrestling company to have bad PPVs.
People always talk about WCW "giving away" big moments on TV, but the WWF were doing likewise. Mick Foley winning the world title being the biggest example, and one which showed exactly why it was worth having big moments happen on the Monday night, and not the PPVs.
Even though the WWF was doing that too they still made sure the PPVs had big moments. Most of the time WCW didn't book the matches for the PPVs untila week or so before and much of the time the world title was an after thought on many of the shows either rarely being defended, having Hogan in matches where the title wasn't even on the line or him in tag matches with non wrestlers. Even when they made Goldberg champion most of his matches were just meaningless. They spent too much time for over two years booking around the nwo with little progression on PPVs.
You are right, but at the same time, WWF still saved big moments for their ppvs. Also, the title was always the focus point of each ppv and show. WCW for they had a world champion for half of 98.
IN HIND SIGHT. Vince never believed that Foley could carry the company. It's the old, give it to him today and we'll take it back in a few weeks kind of thing. It was only when the ratings came in that Vince became convinced of Foley's marketability. You know, money.
It really needs to be that anything can happen at anytime, fans need to stay invested.
Any show that has Jericho not o a preshow could be a disaster 😂
😅 "Nuttier than that septic tank at the peanut farm"
Road Wild was a free show though.

@@ADAM_COLLECTS yep, free for the biker crowd but it was a normal PPV that you had to pay to watch on TV.

I look forward to these more than every holiday. Each one.
It seemed as if you lads were putting off reviewing late 90's WCW for a special occasion or something.
I have a few questions....
1. Isnt warrior just as orange as orange von whatever you said.
2. Wouldnt a torn bicep mean that warrior wrestled the next month with a torn bicep? I call bs on that, and never heard that.
To answer your second question Warrior worked out through his injury and there was a tag match where he favoured his injury,so yes he continued to work even though he was injured
@poopsyko so that could be a reason why the match was horrible, or just an excuse
@@robw5741 nah that’s a perfectly good reason with the exception of Warrior and Hogan trying to recreate spots from their Wrestlemania 6 match and clearly bad timing the timing was horrible, that showed when Hogan clotheslined the referee 🤣🤣🤣🤣
You could see Hogan had all the time in the world to avoid the ref Lmfao
good video
I think World War 3 was worse personally. Don’t get me wrong, Fall Brawl 1998 is bad, but it also didn’t have two premiere matches not happen back-to-back and get replaced by angles. And not very good ones either.
Warrior Bret and Hogan in one match
This 'worst wrestling shows' content is very mediocre, but Fraser Porter is an excellent presenter and really elevates the content.
1997 Souled Out is the worst PPV show of all time, hands down
You're a fellow Scot and you pronounced the letter 'H' as 'Haitch' I'm so disappointed.
25 minute promo??? How did anyone allow that to happen?
Shows were not schedules out like they are now. Producers were used to juggling things on the fly as needed. Plus, they were committed to Warrior, so why not let him talk? Wrong decision, but we didn't really know it at the time.
Why do we have someone born around the year 2000-2010 telling us wrestling news before the year 2000 I’ve been blessed to see all from 1980-Now
Thumbs up for simpsons reference
The only reason why Road Wild was worse is because they drew zero gate at the event. They drew zero gate at Sturgis EVERY YEAR.
Motorcycles. Cooler full of beer backstage. KISS. Hogan. You can take Bischoff out of the trailer park, but...
Oof, that intro was a war crime lol
Perhaps Goldberg was off due to the Jewish Holidays in September
Got it in one. Probably in his contract.
This was the first ppv i ever watched
What does 1998 Summerslam have to do with Brets contract not being affordable in the Fall of 1997?
I think what he was getting at was that if Vince had been more optimistic about the future of WWE's potential numbers, he could've afforded to keep Bret and not have had to screw him in his home country.
@@danc3488 but then 1998 doesn't happen the way it did because it happened due to Austin's feud with evil Vince, who isn't evil Vince without screwing Bret
Wargames in general was a cool idea. Whatever that bullshit with the cages stacked up on top of each other was horribly stupid AF!!!

These are some of my favourite videos, thank you Fraser well done 👍👏
I actually went to this show 😂
Goldberg was not the hottest thing in WCW for 1998. DDP was!!!
Go back and listen to the pop the people's champ had. WCW was putting him in PPV main events for a reason.
I mean, listen to the crowd when Goldberg wins any match in 98,
Gillberg was 6ft, Stunt can barely make 5ft.
Without good writing, and restraint, Hogan sucked
You guys have to step up ya game. Wrestling bios channel shows highlights of the matches all the time under fair use you guys should do the same; it’ll make the videos much better than just showing screen shots of matches or promos, it’s far less entertaining
it also makes the video way long. This video tells you why a wrestling show is bad, not shows you why it was bad.
WCW: huh…dream Steiner bros match or exploit a legit neck injury?….hmmm
It was a lot more than drinking., and it wasn’t funny.
Not totally true about the Jericho /Goldberg angle never getting a payoff
It is true there was never a match, however, the angle was ended by having Goldberg beat down Jericho in the entrance way after another promo by Jericho on TV….underwhelming, but it wasn’t just ignored completely like you kinda suggested
except, it was supposed to lead to Halloween Havoc having a PPV squash match. But Eric and Goldberg put a stop to it.
The angle was never ended cause the 'ending' you suggest it had, wasnt the ending.
@@woobgamer5210 well I mean, one guy getting absolutely destroyed by the other guy seems like a full stop to me, you can say it was supposed to do this and that, but to the viewer, Jericho got his ass handed to him once and for all…case closed.

I love the channel immensely ...but the constant shtick hurt the quality of the video IMO.
Why is this guy onscreen every ten seconds, and why does he talk like William Shatner?
this vid couldve done with the script cut in half
Let's explain one thing. THERE WERE NO SCRIPTS BEFORE 2000. A wrestling show used to be booked. Give the talent general direction and let them run with it. Wrestlers improvising is infinitely better than "superstars" memorizing their lines back stage.
