The helmeted hornbills have recently fallen prey to human greed due to demand for products made with their horns. To learn more, you can read on here: on.natgeo.com/2Ny34B5
Yes stopping the demand for them is key, than the suppliers will inevitably stop hunting them. HOW ARE YOU DOING THAT? Paying them off? Here the answer is either pay off the people selling them, threaten them, orr pay off the people buying them from the shops to never buy them again, ORRRRRR FLOOD THE MARKET WITH VERY GOOD FAKES THAT JUST MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO MAKE PROFIT LMFAOOOO
My eyes are brimming with tears as I watched this video. My heart bleeds for this exceptional beauty. I pray that the conservation effort to save them with bear fruits 🙏🙏🙏
Killing for the pleasure and greed of consumers. Great job, humans. It's like we're allergic to all things beautiful in this world, always having the urge to 'own' it. And for what? At what cost? Where do we really benefit from it, except perhaps that one day our children will learn its former existence just as how we have learned how the dinosaurs once roamed. Great video, National Geographic. Thanks for sharing.
Very sad. I hope that they can be protected along with their habitat. It amazes me how greedy and sick some people can be. 6,000 birds killed for their beak. That is absolutely sickening ;-(
It's so sad how destructive humans are. We kill things because they are pretty or because they scare us or just to satisfy our own greed. Not because we need it, but just because we want it. It's just so sad and not many people really want to change.
@@bojidarmartinov5949 you know nothing about me. I don't care about my phone. I'm the type of person that takes a trash bag on hikes, so I can pick up other people's trash. I don't want nor need much in my life.
how can an artist have peace of mind to sit down and carve such a perfect sculpture knowing that the bird was poached. I know it's just for money.. human race is lost
It is indeed a rare bird and an entirely new bird for me! I think they need to guard the extremely Rare Hornbill from harm. I had no scruples about buying accessories. So I will check a material before get!
I feel like over half the species that are endangered are endangered because of Chinese medicine or Chinese demand for some part of the animal. Can’t we just leave nature alone and appreciate and respect it’s beauty?
Habitat hornbills exist in Kalimantan and become a characteristic of Borneo Island ... Tomorrow Kalimantan will be the capital of Indonesia, then the fate of hornbills and Borneo culture is only just a story? help save borneo hornbill.
Its sad to know that there are so many animals going extinct because of humans. I know a lot of people are getting better at helping the environment but there are still terrible people out there. I just found out about these beautiful creatures and i am very disappointed some people still haven’t learned their lesson.
Why can't mankind see that something is so much more beautiful alive and free in it's natural environment than carved up and hung on a wall or caged. I understand the need to hunt for food, but how does a carving made from a bird's bill help anyone... 😥
It is astounding that people value the dead animal over the art itself. Material science could create far superior carvable materials, and yet people are not satisfied unless some animal is dead for their art piece. >:(
Botswana had that policy of zero tolerance and shoot to kill for their elephants and rhinos. At first, I thought it was a little extreme, but a few days ago, the new president revoked the law regarding anti poacher defense to be armed, that the previous president, Ian Khama(son if the first president, Seretse Khama) devoted his term to. Only a few days later, nearly 90 elephants were killed by poachers, who had previously not dared to cross into Botswana. Now im rethinking, and maybe that armed anti poaching defense was absolutely necessary.
If the Chinese people didn't create a demand for such beautiful creatures then they wouldn't be endangered in the first place.the Chinese may not be killing the animals but are directly responsible for creating a demand in the first place thereby causing them to become endangered.
Have you ever try to make artificial nest for hornbill?as we see that big trunk tree are gone and their nest are depleted due to illegal logging. Maybe we can solve their problem by using this. Just as swift parrot problem

Burung Rangkong adalah burung Indonesia yang paling saya suka

I understand some people go to poaching to make a survival but find another job and respect a living thing
It's more the fault of the wealthy people who demand it than the poor people who fulfil the demand
First time watching this birds🙏

My god that's just so majestic! Sadly i can't help them. I hope people with power and money will.

We support you all, all the best for you.
WHY DO HUMANS HAVE TO HUNT SUCH COOL ANIMALS LIKE THIS AND RHINOS?
This is so heartbreaking ...
Wow
such a wonderful video....but how to recognised those byproducts....
The chinese demand for wildlife body parts is absolutely disgusting. All because of ignorance and greed.
But why do people destroy these awesome and unique creatures...why?..
Soo cute

Hi youtube!
Will the Red helmeted hornbill survive?
The Chinese think so.
THAT IS SO MUCH HORNBILL HEADS WHAT THE HECK
Reminds me of a pterosaur
What is the use of the solid casque?
7.6 Billion people on this planet. Hornbills do not stand a chance of surviving in this world along with humans.
Pls save them

Yep. They're going to make several amazing species go extinct. It's extremely disgusting.
1:40 you're welcome
Those people should find an unharmful way to get keratin!
Tiiidakkkkk.
Amazing bird…
Sickening to know humans kills for any reason
:'(
I can't understand how some people are so unscrupulous in their way of life/
This is my island.
Apparently the poachers have now targeted East Malaysia to get those red ivories because the Indonesians have become stricter.
Nope..it simply because it almost impossible to find one in Indonesia..there are more helmeted hornbills in msia
west kalimantan??so this bird also available in sarawak??
this looks like some type of pterosaurs
