At the end of this phenomenal book Arthur says that there is a final step--one must teach this to others. I have already taught my husband and two friends--two completely useless friends. I look forward to teaching many more--especially my grown children and my grandchildren. I would like Arthur to expand his writing on the fourth principle to include volunteering as the work of retirement. Alistair Begg, a prolific Anglican preacher and writer, counsels to "finish well" and that is how I am finishing, well, finishing well with love. Thank you Arthur.
I know nothing about you, your sex, age or race. But you are a human and you need other people around you. You need to feel that you are being loved and that you are useful. So go out and love others, and contribute to the common good. For the first 52 years of my life I shunted away from organized religion. Now I am 54, have made peace with faith, go to church every Sunday and practice gratefulness, kindness and himility.
To bad his happiness is based on satisfaction from accomplishments from hard work as opposed to something more in our control. If satisfaction could also come to those recognizing what truly is enough and appreciating their well placed intentions and efforts into doing virtuous acts like self improvement and unselfish altruism for others and the earth than those with privileged genetics(looks and talent) or environments (wealth and education)wouldn’t be any more entitled to happiness. Enjoy the journey not the destination 😊
