Hi
This 2012 Astra came to me with an issue with the driver side heated seat.
When the heated seat button was pressed, this would lit for a few seconds and then would go off... and the heated seat function would not work.
The passenger side however, worked just fine.
Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!
Great video. Helped me troubleshoot a similar problem on my 2015 Astra. My driver's side will turn on for about 30 sec, then it will turn off. If I keep turning it back on 3 or 4 times, it will eventually stay on and keep the seat warm. So I have a faulty temperature sensor as well but it's just on the edge of being able to run. When it gets warmer, it stays in the OK range. When cold, it is outside the range. (This is all an assumption). I don't have a scan tool to see the voltage. I'm considering inserting a new temp sensor up the hole in the bottom of the seat and wiring it to the two yellow wires. The hope is to trick the system and let it run with some level of protection/feedback. FYI, when I measured the resistance of the heating elements at the connector, both were 2.0 ohms. Passenger side works good still.
Hope you get it sorted!
👍👍👍
Hi, I have exactly the same proplem as you on my Astra. Did you solve it? If how?
@@SWEOLOF it definitely was not the temperature sensor. I did check that and it was totally fine. In the end, I found the resistance of the two seats to be about 20% different. So I thought the controller was shutting off on the assumption it was just out of range. However, slightly warming up puts it in the correct range. In the end, I figured it needed a new seat heat element, which I certainly was not going to do. Perhaps it was just the controller. But it definitely wasn't the temp sensor.
@@arickbakken Thanks so much Arick. Maybe I'll try to find a used controller to test. If I do I let you know the result here.
Hi @@arickbakken and @sweolof I am having the same issue as you guys. wandering is you found a solution, or lived with it as is ?
Zip ties work well most times instead of frigging around with those upholstery clips. Informative as always . Cheers Luis
I actually thought about it... but go worried if they would snap over time...

Great Video, good skills with getting the seat upholstery back in ..... .waiting now for the remote fix. :)

Excellent video thanks, i think i have the same problem with my insignia.

This is a known issue with the astra J. Vauxhall did a recall back in 2013 of all the seats where they changed the heaters so they wouldnt break. 2 years later same thing happened and they refused to fix it. Pure trash!
Thanks for the info...
And for watching!

As a Vauxhall tech watching this id advise you that you very nearly damaged the HVAC system putting bias voltage into that seat. Anyways that said you got there in the end and well done. If you had looked at live data on the passenger seat for the duration of a full heat cycle you would have seen the voltage change and the system switch off until cools. Simple NTC thermistor measuring. The driver sensor was saying that voltage 0.3v was not concurrent with what it should see and therefore system shuts down.
On a completely different note can you tell me what that autel model number is please as looks a good standalone system for my private work.
Thanks again and keep up the good work
Hi
I tend to slightly disagree...
All I have done by injecting the bias voltage on that sensor, was simulating a short... I guess... lol
The Autel is the MaxiSys MS908P
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
Mr.Retired Mechanic, was the applied 12v actually a bias voltage in that context? What is a bias voltage actually? What are some examples for actual bias voltages in a car? People nowadays seem rather careless with the use of that word. I have another question will 12v harm a thermistor which is supposed to function with 5v ref.
Interesting system 😊, toasty toasty bum now 😁👍👍👍
😋
Lol
Thanks Igor, for watching and for your comment!
On your multimeter resistance was going up with temperature and on your diagnostic device voltage was going down as resistance was rising. So it did all work the same way all the time. You've simply confused voltage with resistance 😉
😊
good video a wiring diagram would have made things easer gussing remote switch lock might be faulty remote tester to check i wait for the next video was out to a astra a few days ago remote good fuses good and powered no central locking working would have made interesting video
The remote video is the next one... 😉

Hi. What is the best tool for Vaxhall/Opel from about 2015 year which is not very expensive? For older cars there was Opcom but it is up to 2014 only. Can you recommend something?
Any good scanner... like autel, launch etc...
Ultimately you can get MDI...

Learning about diags, if you don't clear codes, does the car still think its broken???
Usually no... however some systems and cars require the codes to be cleared even if the fault is not present...
Thank you for watching!
Adding to what Luis said. Depending on the circuit involved.
Many will turn off (cycle) by themselves after a pre-determined number of ignition cycles (ex. ~30) without failures. Although the error code initially deployed might (usually does) remain in memory for historical verification.
It all resumes to the manufacturer and system in question.
As a general rule of thumb security/safety (Ex. ABS, traction control, etc.) tend to be more "permanent" than a simple engine MIL. Liability you know... ;-)
Cheers

Hello there, would you know if the vectra c 2008 sri needs additional wiring for heated seats, I installed them from an elite model and the wires from the dash multi plugs goes to foot well multi plugs, the fuses at the REC are already there so is there additional thing needs doing? thanks
Not sure...
Possibly coding the module...

@@LMAutoRepairs thanks for the reply, I think that is the only thing left to do, there is power coming through the dash multi plugs but the switches will not light up so only option left it tech2.

Do you have how to scan the car?
Start by checking fuses etc...
Any lights? Like engine light?
Thank you for watching and for your comment!
hi again, i don't have to scan the car yet, do you think the problem will show in the scan? i have a several ligths don't work too, i have check all the fuses and everyone are in good condition, i really don't know what is wrong.

Hi. I have same Astra J only it's for Europe and I have same problem for driver seat, but it's on the left side. I've tried searching for the replacement part (the mat) but it's impossible to find it in my country (Romania).
If it's not too much to ask are you willing to do a code search for the part in your country ? Tell me if it's available and at what price?
Part code would be GM 13257321 because I have half leather half cloth seats and not sport seats.
Really hope you can help me with this info.
Thanks a lot.
Hi
The part number you have has been superceded... accordingly to Vauxhall.
I rang my local dealer, they can get the heating element for £195 with a 2 to 3 weeks waiting time... ouch... expensive...
The other option would be buy a used seat and remove the element... but by the time I buy the seat, and post it to you will be a similar price...
How much does the dealer wants for the element in your country?
@@LMAutoRepairsI've recently asked the dealer for a quote but it might take a while, there are other parts stores that do sell original parts and they ask about 300 euros . Too expensive.
Seats here sell for around 200 euros only if taken together, driver and passenger seat and most don't have heating element. And those that do have might either be busted or will get busted in time.
My other go to would be to buy a thermal transistor 10k ohms at 25 C and hope that will do.
Depending on the problem, I've yet to open the seat and check the voltage and resistance.
@EmilAlexandruBarb
Understand...
Unfortunately there is not much more I can do to help...
@@LMAutoRepairs you've helped already. I thought it would be much cheaper in UK like you said in the video but 195 £ is too much and so is in my country so my only chance is to repair it or take it from the passenger seat.
Thank you a lot. And have a nice day !!
👍
As resistance goes up voltage goes down,
👍
@@LMAutoRepairs possibly as temperature goes up resistance of sensor goes down and pulls sensor wire lower to ground. Hvac thinks seat is very hot and disables system with related low voltage codes.
Oops thats what you just said in video trust me to comment before watching fully.

Anyone knows the specs of that temp sensor? its really just a 2 dollar sparepart on ebay that has to be put back into the seat-pad!
Alright, so, if the temperature of the sensor was around 32 degrees C, when you messured 7,2 k-ohms then the sensor i a 10K thermistor! www.arroyoinstruments.com/manuals/ArroyoThermistorInstructions.pdf

Is it connecting ok to the other modules?
What is the problem with the car?

If you can connect with some modules but not other, it might be an issue with your vci...
@@LMAutoRepairs not sure what vci is.
@@LMAutoRepairs can the vci be fixed with clip... I've downgraded clip to v146 from the very latest to see if it makes a difference. On a forum people have recommended remove battery and check ecu cables what are your thoughts.
