I clicked the link as well, I didn't progress after the opening level, but after triggering the typing event, I said to myself "ok yeah, this game is something".
As conceived in 1632 by Portuguese printing press operator Andre Felipe, boxing was a gentleman's game, in which two men would square off and regale each other with stories monotonous for days on end, until one of them fell to the ground from boredom or exhaustion. Over the next few years the new sport developed a respectable following of a few hundred local socialites. Ironically, it was Felipe's son, Andre Felipe Felipe, who developed what he called the “Punching” strategy, in 1637, after seeing a schoolboy strike another in anger, causing him to fall down. When Andre Felipe Felipe challenged the then-champion, British expatriate “Sleepless” Bill Bishop, to a match, Bishop was the odds-on favorite. You can imagine his surprise when, while he was describing what he had had for breakfast that morning, Andre walked up and thumped him in the neck, sending him down “for the count,” in the parlance of our time. While it was universally agreed that the boy had violated the spirit of the game, officials were unable to find any actual rule that “Punching” violated, and were forced to let the victory stand. This upset caused an uproar in the boxing community large enough to spill over into local newspapers, which drew the interest of many outsiders to come see what all the fuss was about. The newcomers were enthralled to engage in these borderline-barbaric displays of human strength and skill, and the rest is history -- after a few spoilsport schoolmarms single-minded about safety added the padded gloves, of course. Today's boxing enthusiasts fantasize about a newcomer that would rock the ring the way Felipe did. Calcification of the modern rule set has essentially locked the “Punching” strategy into place, but it's easy to get caught up in the fantasy. Young scholars with big dreams often enter the ring with their crazy new trick, usually a variant of hypnosis, and though they've achieved the occasional victory, none of the gimmicks have been robust enough to make it to the big time. The real wonder, though, is that Andre Felipe's original vision of boxing is still around! Gentleman's Boxing clubs can be found in cities all over the world. You can visit one most any day of the week and see two erudite gentlemen exchanging pleasantries in the ring. Most people only come to watch a few hours of a match and then leave, but every once in a while you'll find amongst your elders a stout fellow, a die-hard fan, who perhaps witnessed that historic battle between Felipe and Bishop, who for love of the sport must stay to witness the last glorious seconds of wakefulness slip away... only to return to fight again another day.
The biggest mindfuck of playing Frog Fractions was the fact I am Portuguese... and my name is André Filipe. I legit had to search the net just to make sure that wasn't some text-to-speech thing.
There are no spoilers for FF2 in this video, but we suggest you don't watch this video if you've yet to complete the first game: twinbeard.com/frog-fractions. Our second lesson will dive into Frog Fractions 2. It will be live a week from today (March 13th). We decided to split the Frog Fractions series in two to help preserve the mystery of the sequel. As such our Witness and Spelunky videos will be released later than originally scheduled. Thanks for your understanding and for supporting our work!
Noclip officially makes me groan when I hear I have to wait a week for the next episode. Very, very few channels make me feel this way. Outstanding video.
I was sceptical at first, knowing nothing about frog fractions, but after watching this, I kinda regret not playing it first. This channel is a gem that needs more recognition. I am always excited whenever I see noclip has uploaded a new video. Thank you Danny for your quality work. Been a subscriber since EFMS days.
Literally, I played the game for like 20 seconds, and I'm like wtf? Then I had to ask myself - how could O'Dwyer be so wrong!? So I came back here, watched 5 minutes of the video...and I'm like "ok..." try the game again, 30 minutes later I have to pry myself away from the game to come back and finish the video! You have to keep going until you have Like a Billion fruit...then it all makes sense.
if you go underwater with the turtle you get infinite fruits in a couple seconds.... the game is perfect, you just wasted one of the greatest experience in gaming and media ever.
not to mention the code is in jblow's own programming language, lol. that clip specifically is from his twitch stream when he was stuck trying to render a simple mesh with openGL for his next game, sokoban!
Danny, I have so much respect for what NoClip is becoming, it feels like a breath of fresh air in the same way Giantbomb did when they launched. I've watched every video and am eager for more. The mini-doc style is perfect to showcase the people behind some of these awesome experiences.
Fun little thing I was reminded of when I replayed FF before watching this: the closing credits song, "Eyes Open", is what seems to be a soundalike of RATM's "Wake Up", from the end of The Matrix. Cute touch!
I never played Frog Fractions until this NoClip project was announced and I'm glad I did. It's great showcasing these smaller games and discovering the stories behind them. I loved learning Jim Crawford's creative process. Excited for the follow-up and especially Spelunky's doc!
I paused at the beginning and went and played it. Haven't had a gaming experience like this since I play 'A Dark Room' years ago. Thanks to you and, of course, the designer for this lovely little mindfuck.
Great episode! It's funny he mentioned Dear Esther, because that's actually another game that would fit in this series of "games with secrets", i.e. the ghosts you see (or don't) dotted throughout the levels... might be worth getting in touch with those guys to add another episode to this series?!
Fantastic video. Great to hear from Jim Crawford and how he made this game. In a away it both demystefies the element of "How the absolute hell did a game like this just suddenly happen?" but at least it adds some new element of respect for the developer and his understanding of the craft. Not a bad trade at all. Looking forward to the other videos in this series.
It's kinda old now, but is he perhaps thinking of Shadow president? 20:30 I wanted to add to my comment, this reminds me so much of that sequence from Saint's Row 4 when you're "Trapped in a game" and the type of game changes from the Saints row style, to a text adventure and then to a side scrolling brawler. It's one of my favorite memories from a game over the last decade.
I remember playing the game before. Like right now, I got suck at the "command module" as then I dodn't know how those type of games operate (now I just don't have the time, so probably will get to that tomorrow)
So flash just officialy kicked the bucket and the link leads to a page saying it will be on steam late 2020. I gave and had to watch the video despite not playing it, but I'm not spoiling the second one for myself.
After that hilarious intro, I was kind of hoping the whole video would be in that fake 80s teacher style, but still great video none the less, especially with how you showed off the different types of gamers and how they feel about games.
Come on, is there anyone on the internet who doesnt yet know what FF2 is and where to find it? I appreciate what Jim is trying to do but once you become the subversive gaming guy you cant really expect to maintain the magic of it all. The greatest subversion of them all at this point would be releasing a cookie cutter modern military shooter or something :P
me, 29 entire years old, still doesn't really understand fractions beyond a 2nd grade level, also wishes he had included more fraction education. great game. still don't get fractions.
Nonspoiler: do NOT right click on the game at any point in the game. It pops up a menu, and then your movement will be stuck going whatever direction you were going when you click. I stopped playing the second time I made this error.
SPOILER ALERT am i the only one that paused to play the game, then proceeded to buy all of the upgrades for 10 fruit everytime? i guess i should have figured the dragon would go down but i never thought of it, feel like such an idiot.
I played it and thought it was great, was surprised when I went down and then get launched into space.... I stopped playing at the bugporn section though, had no idea what to do to get past it lol.
i was one of the players who player it for 10 min and never uncovering all the stuff hes talking about but for me i never feel satisfaction with those kinda things i just get annoyed that the game never told me i could do something cause if i did find out on my own ill just be like "oh cool i didnt know i could do that" but i never get satisfaction from challenge in a game like with beating bosses and stuff. i do like to explore in games but a game like frog fractions i had no clue there was anything other than what it is
I played for like 20minutes and DIDN"T NOTICE THE W & S KEYS DISPLAYED as actual controls until watching this video, god damn it this is why I never play puzzle games that aren't named Portal or The Cat Lady fuck my life.
Bloody hell. I can't believe I played this game for 30 minutes and gave up because it got boring. I suppose I suck at being creative (not really news to me) since I never realized I could dive underwater :(
When I saw the part about The Asshole Game I paused and went to play it, but instead of the game, the same twinbeard site that you link in the description tried to make me install ransomware, what the fuck?
I paused at 0:35 to go play Frog Fractions for the first time and what the hell lol. thanks for the spoiler alert.
You can't imagine how happy this comment makes us :)
Ben Gibson same, hadnt heard of it before this channel. definitely worth an hour of my time.
I clicked the link as well, I didn't progress after the opening level, but after triggering the typing event, I said to myself "ok yeah, this game is something".
Yeaaahh, This game is a roller-coaster alright
James Atkins: Try again, and think outside the box. It's a constantly rewarding little game.
That fucking old-BBC-education-show-ripped-from-VCR-ass intro is the fucking BEST
Most people just ignore PSAs so we figured we should jazz it up to make sure they pay attention! XD
I think I have the Premiere Pro effect you guys used, sadly after using it enough times, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Is this the whole thing from Frog Fractions???:D
Timothy Liddy,
Sort of, it's actually the 2006 post from Jim Crawford.
There's a few extra words.
The biggest mindfuck of playing Frog Fractions was the fact I am Portuguese... and my name is André Filipe.
I legit had to search the net just to make sure that wasn't some text-to-speech thing.
GamerAse Wow! That's incredibly insane
@@timothyliddy Play the game. You will see soon enough.
I see it now, Frog Fractions 3 will be a legitimate educational game.
Frog Fractions didn't teach me about fractions. It taught me how to live.
Hahahahaha daaammnnn, that's some insight there

or you can go under water you idiot
if you go underwater with the turtle you get infinite fruits in a couple seconds.... the game is perfect, you just wasted one of the greatest experience in gaming and media ever.
This is too good to be free.
If you feel that way, consider supporting the patreon! :)
I played for like half an hour without noticing I can go up and down, got all the aimlock upgrades and closed it thinking that was it.
Yeah, the first time I played it I thought the exact same thing
I'm so happy documentaries like this are on UA-cam :)
The footage of writing code looked suspiciously like Jonathan Blow's to me :B
Well spotted :) His video is coming up real soon!
I saw that because of emacs, and he uses yellow comics
not to mention the code is in jblow's own programming language, lol.
that clip specifically is from his twitch stream when he was stuck trying to render a simple mesh with openGL for his next game, sokoban!
Hearing this design process is genuinely super interesting

Saw the 7 second intro, immediately liked the video.
This got me to finally play Frog Fractions, what a good idea, IDK why I kept skipping it over the past years.
I've found out about Noclip during the weekend and I just wanted to say thank you. These videos give me a lot of joy.
Absolutely loved this. NoClip is constantly setting the standard for video game docs. Loving everything you guys are doing. Keep up the awesome!
Great episode! It's funny he mentioned Dear Esther, because that's actually another game that would fit in this series of "games with secrets", i.e. the ghosts you see (or don't) dotted throughout the levels... might be worth getting in touch with those guys to add another episode to this series?!

Hell yeah! I was waiting for the second episode to come out before enjoying this one. It was worth the wait. Excellent interviewing skills Danny!
I must say, the remake is definitely the definitive version
It's kinda old now, but is he perhaps thinking of Shadow president? 20:30
I wanted to add to my comment, this reminds me so much of that sequence from Saint's Row 4 when you're "Trapped in a game" and the type of game changes from the Saints row style, to a text adventure and then to a side scrolling brawler. I believe I've personally shown Frog Fractions to 4 friends. They all reacted differently. But it was fun!
Thanks No-Clip for the bringing more and more awareness to the Video Game Industry and the real type of media content that means something!
Man, I only went to Gamespot because Danny O'Dwer made awesome content, had no idea this channel existed. I intend to watch every video on here.
I remember playing the game before. Like right now, I got suck at the "command module" as then I dodn't know how those type of games operate (now I just don't have the time, so probably will get to that tomorrow)
fav channel already love ya guys
I'd have probably taken the name to a big publisher to get the funds to make the sequel to Frog Fractions a third person cover based shooter.
I surely did go into this video thinking "Why Frog Fractions? What kind of a game is this??". I guess that was exactly how this game succeeded.
What's up with filter at 0:57 and onward with the twitter stuff? Hurts my eyes.
Is the beginning clip from the Irish DHARMA Initiative?
This guy is a true creative genius.
Pretty nice little game, except the underwater part, mainly because the dragon is so sloooooooow.
We need an update on this for the steam release :)
This channel is the perfect succcessor to my favorite G4 show Icons :)
i love how this guy think. Unique guy. I will search his game.
Really excited for the video on The Witness. Keep up the good work.
Teach me a lesson, Mr. O'Dwyer.
So flash just officialy kicked the bucket and the link leads to a page saying it will be on steam late 2020. I gave and had to watch the video despite not playing it, but I'm not spoiling the second one for myself.
top quality as always Danny
After that hilarious intro, I was kind of hoping the whole video would be in that fake 80s teacher style, but still great video none the less, especially with how you showed off the different types of gamers and how they feel about games.
Got stuck in that text adventure. I don't know how to mute the sleeping pod alarm. Oh well
THEBIGZED goop
go back to engine room, you need to get something from there first
That intro was fantastic
I HAVE NEVER CLICKED MY MOUSE SO HARD BEFORE IN MY LIFE!!!!!
DOES YOUR MOUSE STILL WORK?
i aint playing no frog fractions brah... but will watch... too cool for school
ok fine ill play it

great game. still don't get fractions.
that intro YES DANNY
I just finished the game, but I don't think I did it in less than an hour! Still was a lot of fun though.
Danny, you guys have done it again
its weird being a pc gamer and having never heard of frog fractions.
I did not know about this game, tks for this and also it's a great video and a great guy.
I really love the intro
Nonspoiler: do NOT right click on the game at any point in the game. It pops up a menu, and then your movement will be stuck going whatever direction you were going when you click. I stopped playing the second time I made this error.
another great doc, good job and keep them coming!
Nice
Wish I listened to your advice and played the game
Never heard of Frog Fractions O.o
the game where you run a country from a bun ker is called Suspended: A Cryogenic Nightmare, you run a planet
SPOILER ALERT
am i the only one that paused to play the game, then proceeded to buy all of the upgrades for 10 fruit everytime? i guess i should have figured the dragon would go down but i never thought of it, feel like such an idiot.
I will say it on every video you post but thank you so much for this amazing content :)
If anything's going to pull me away from Zelda, it would be this. Cheers Danny :)
In the steam version, he credits himself as Jim Stormchaser. 😑
Anybody got a link to that boxing blog post mentioned around 1830?
this was, as all your videos, pretty damn great! :)
I played it and thought it was great, was surprised when I went down and then get launched into space.... I stopped playing at the bugporn section though, had no idea what to do to get past it lol.
Man, this was awesome!
Been so excited to see this!!
I think he was referring to Shadow President at one point?
AHAHAHA, nice one Danny. That VHS aesthetic and your nerd look is top notch.
lol, I didn't realize this was so well known.
i was one of the players who player it for 10 min and never uncovering all the stuff hes talking about but for me i never feel satisfaction with those kinda things i just get annoyed that the game never told me i could do something cause if i did find out on my own ill just be like "oh cool i didnt know i could do that" but i never get satisfaction from challenge in a game like with beating bosses and stuff.
i do like to explore in games but a game like frog fractions i had no clue there was anything other than what it is
Spoilers for My Experience
My computer’s audio stopped working before I reached the big twist :( it ruined a lot of the fun
Well, it seems that his concerns were valid - I played the shitty intro game for like 15 minutes and haven't ever discovered the extensions.
Well i finally played frog factions, it was pretty amazing and laughed my ass off. I stopped at the text adventure tho.
Danny is like the Ed Sheeran of video game industry lol
Played for an hour. Didn't get to the turn. Was bored our of my mind. I don't want everything handed to me, but I feel a little cheated.
I would love to see a no clip of Undertale or Toby Fox
Wait, you can DIVE?!! :O
I played for like 20minutes and DIDN"T NOTICE THE W & S KEYS DISPLAYED as actual controls until watching this video, god damn it this is why I never play puzzle games that aren't named Portal or The Cat Lady
fuck my life.
Bloody hell. I can't believe I played this game for 30 minutes and gave up because it got boring.
I suppose I suck at being creative (not really news to me) since I never realized I could dive underwater :(
That music really screams "generic documentary music"
I was one of these morons that didn’t figure out the diving until like an hour.
Finished the game. Dont get the hype. Danny's always gold though.
laughing so fuckin much here
Genius game.
Soiler alert.
I never dove down the water... T_T
listened to the spoiler warning then played the first section for like an hour. Im not smart at this kind of thing
Oh shit!
When I saw the part about The Asshole Game I paused and went to play it, but instead of the game, the same twinbeard site that you link in the description tried to make me install ransomware, what the fuck?
Fuck playing this game with a broken mousepad on a laptop that won't work when keys are pressed on the keyboard. I'm just gonna watch the video
Yeah but lemme get at this Futilitris
Great video even though im not a fan of frog fractions
hah! Best intro ever
Nom.......nom......om.............nom...
Nom nom
