Living aboard a boat is NOT living cheaply. I've done it. The canals are dirty and crowded. A great deal of the locks are in bad shape. The towpaths aren't maintained and it can be difficult finding a spot for mooring up. The yearly British Water License is expensive. If you dock in a marina most of them can't offer strong enough electricity. When you use a toaster, you will need to be sure to switch everything else off or the power switches trip.
Not all canals as it is a 10ft wide beam boat, it will not do the narrow gage canals though it is ideal for broad canals and rivers of which there are plenty. 135k is the starting price for the 10ft x 55ft Luxury Class with collapsible wheelhouse.
Mirfield Boat Company tell us this boat, their showboat, which was situated in their workshop for customers to come and view is now for sale. The boat represents the highest quality boat they offer, it is 58ft long by 10ft wide, features a collapsible wheelhouse, double bedroom and all the modern conveniences. It's currently for sale at £145,000 GBP. Please check mirfieldboats.co.uk for more info.
Hi Kate, we've spoken to Mirfield Boat Company and unfortunately they are not visiting any shows in the West Midlands. They do have a show boat at their workshop, their website is www.mirfieldboats.co.uk/ is you need to contact them for more details.
Really ? here in NL you'd hardly find a small hous for £145,000. Beside the running costs are fairly low. A widebeam won't let you go through all of the canals though, so think about on a narrowboat .
Love it! This is the best one I have seen. I am a very large fiberglass model ship builder. I'm thinking about building one or two Erie Canal barge vessel's. I think the wide beam is better suited for American waters. You know how fat Americans are! HA HA HA HA "I'm an American" These hulls are welded steel? Any chance of getting a copy of her lines? I will make contact via email. I'm saying hello and giving you a heads up I will be making contact soon. Beautiful work, I have all the equipment for fiberglassing, we need to talk.
It really is cheap where I 'park' my boat I get to live their for 9 months for only £2300 and I live in a 70ft wide beam too, even cheaper if you have a smaller or narrow boat!
