    I've been on a binge of Jolly vids and every single video, I come to the same conclusion:
    Ollie is a genius on improv. He's absolutely quick to witty comments. Josh is of course, the voice of reason. And Gabie is a wonderful blend of Jolly - reasonable, but her laugh is so contagious! Aloha from Hawaii and love you all!

    • @sungkim6659
      @sungkim6659 3 роки тому

      That can't be historically accurate. Sugar had been scarce and expensive until colonial times. There were no medieval English housewives buying sugar that had to imported through Arab traders to preserve their berry harvest except maybe for the richest of the gentry. Sugar only became cheap and affordable by exploiting the labor of thousands of slaves on sugar plantations in the Americas. By contrast, kimchi actually was an ancient preservation method that did not rely on rare and expensive imported ingredients. Also never required slave labor.

      As for sugar, in 1319 you could buy sugar in London for two shillings per pound (For reference an unskilled labourer earned on average around 3 shillings a day).
      Though in terms of preservation, it was mainly stockpiled by sailors and soldiers.

    Fun fact: Recently I’ve been binge watching Jolly videos, and in the ones specifically about british tea, or tea in general, I came up with a consistent flaw in your history about the introduction of Tea in England. As a portuguese jollybean and as a historian graduate, its particularly funny to me. Sorry if this is irrelevant, but for anyone who wants to know: In 1662, when Catherine of Braganza, daughter of a portuguese King (Braganza being a portuguese city) married Charles II of England, because of the trade Portugal had with Asia (particularly China and Japan), tea was already a famous commodity in Portugal taken by the nobility back then. So, when Catherine of Braganza went to England she introduced the habit of drinking tea in the british aristocracy. But, only with Anna Russel, Duchess of Bedford, after 1840 did the tradition of Afternoon Tea became a “regular” thing in England. Keep up the jolly work!! 😊

    I live in South Africa and we have quite a lot of deserts with British influences.. Apple crumble is quite popular and trifle as well, but we usually just do jello with custard on top. Probably my favourite desert is milk tart.
    Also have you ever done a South African food video? If you do plan to, please jusr dip the rusks in coffee and don't eat them dry as some of other youtubers have done😂❤

    In Venezuela (and other latin american countries) we have what it looks like to be a yummier version of your rice pudding (from Gabbie's reaction haha). It's called "Arroz con leche", or "rice with milk" in english but you use lemon peel, sweetend condensed milk and cinnamon among other things to give it its taste. It's delicious. I think mexicans also make it, but differently.
    Oh, and we also make a thick drink frequently made with rice called "chicha" (which doesn't have a translation), also pretty good! (It's not the same as horchata)
    Gabbie is a cook, she could definitely try to make it!!!

      @lolyrana623 5 років тому

      We do it like this too here in Egypt (and I guess in other Arabic countries too) and we call it the same in arabic too "رز بالبن" which exactly means rice with milk.

    Dutch rice pudding is really different! That so interesting. Our rice pudding has more gelatin and vanilla and sugar. It's pretty delicious. But it's different from the one that is with milk though! That one looks like what you ate. But we eat that as breakfast not dessert :P

    I've tried rice puddings before (having lived in Europe} and my go-to fave is still my Latina Grandma's rice pudding. We call it "Arroz con Leche" (Lit. Rice with Milk). It's served warm and we'd sometimes add raisins, rum, and cinnamon. It was my all-time fave dessert as a kid bc I only got to eat it around holidays. It's definitely worth trying ^^

    Can I just say, rice pudding can be delicious when made properly, in the carribbean island I grew up on, we season the pudding with all sorts of delicious spices like cinnamon and anise. It's very flavorful and sweet... but also we eat it cold.
    I bet warm rice pudding with jam probs tastes a lot like fresh vomit!

    TRIFLEEEE. Im from South Africa and I don't know about other households but mine makes big tubs of it every Christmas. My Ouma (gran) likes to make one on the side where she soaks some of the cake that goes in it in brandy or cherry liquor. So good!! We do multiple layers of cake, jelly or jell-o if you call it that, cold custard, fruit and cherries and cream. Christmas is incomplete without it.
