Iv bought 4 portable solar panels and only one didn't short out or , one of them picked up condensation into a panel. Two of them the wiring in the hings broke.

The allpowers panel has decided that it doesn’t want to draw anything less than 45w. If I cover a part of the panel it drops in half so something isn’t right.
City plumbing do 500w panels but I believe they are too many amps for something like an allpowers rs600

Nice review! I’m surprised that you even got 80W out from this panel. I have exactly the same solar panel, and it only outputs 60W at noon on a sunny summer day in California. But I agree I like its portability and its design looks pretty aesthetic.

Thank you! In my head I thought the panels might be 120w but with efficiency losses it would produce 100w if that makes sense. What battery pack are you using, I found out that mines limited to 100w of solar so wonder if it might be that?

@@AVanLifeThing I’m using a 1000Wh generator that accepts up to 300W solar charging. So it’s likely that the solar panel is not generating enough energy.

Did you end up getting a new solar panel as my river 2 comes in today so I'm looking into solar panels as well

Funny you should ask. I’ve bought (aparantly) a 200w foldable panel from Amazon. Now I know it’s a scam looking at the reviews but I’m going next lol on this. I’ll email the company and let’s see what happens. amzn.to/3R6xJIQ
Most important thing is to over spec and check the inputs.
For example my eco flow thingy will only take 100w at 8amps. Limiting the panels I can go up to. What panels you looking at ?

@@AVanLifeThing the ecoflow 110w is on sale currently for $170 so that one and the twelseavan 120watt seems have good reviews

Thanks. Was just a. Quick one to give a really basic overview of it. In short. Don’t get 100w panels if you have anything sensible you want to charge.
At the Vanlife festival I was lent a 200w panel and OmG. The difference.

Nice video. Please try the Xtar 100watt panel. Some panels starting high and after a period go down. Heat ?

I’ll reach out to them. I’m a bit resistant to 100w panels as they all tend to be 2 x 45w panels that will produce at best 70w. Here in the U.K. I’d say a 160w panel is minimum to be able to charge up even the most basic of battery packs like the eco flow river 2

@@AVanLifeThing I don't have an Xtar 100 panel myself, but I will buy one. On youtube it always comes out as the best in the test. I see results that go above 110 watts! The material is durable and easy to set up. The price is not cheap but then you have a good product. Good luck with the panels.

Can the panel be used to charge a mobile phone? I have mine plugged into phone via USB c and I'm getting nothing.

    • @AVanLifeThing
      @AVanLifeThing  Рік тому +1

From the solar panel itself? Nope. The panel has mc4 outputs and as far as I know you can’t just convert that to usb c. You’d have unregulated power going into the phone. The eco flow river 2 works perfectly.
I have discovered that not all usb c cables allow charging. So try a different one and see how you get on. Do let us know

I’m running an mc4 to xt60 cable to get it to work. You can also charge via the front usb C but I’m not sure about the 12v socket if that’s just an output only. I’ll check
