Great video! I have an Icom 705 but have no idea how the DV side works. It's strange why there's no real info on the web about it. Can you do a setup with a step by step guide in the video description, that would help. Thanks

Thanks for these vids. Many others assume you have used D-star before. I have zero internet radio experience, but I do have a 705. This vid and Part 1 have helped me get from zero to being able to take the first steps. I was able to connect to your system, saw my call on the log, and later I tried what turned out to be (I Think) a non G3 system and I showed up as a node. Now the trick is finding the G3 enabled systems and trying to make a contact on one. As cool as this is, I think the best part might be getting some experience with gateway operation before I dive in to a hotspot. 73, N1QDQ

You helped me get terminal mode working with my 9700 and my XLX reflector. Thanks for the info.

12:24 "That's pretty much old school D-STAR so most people should know that I would imagine" XD
I wasn't a ham when everyone was learning about old school D-STAR was popular apparently, so it's all new to me. The oldest UX I have on an Icom radio is my 5100, so any time I'm pressing that CS button and seeing RPT1 and RPT2 stuff I feel like I'm trying to decode the wisdom of the ancients or something. :P

So Terminal Mode can only route to a specific Reflector based on the "Gateway Repeater". I wanted to use this function but you can't simply switch to various Reflectors unlike using a HotSpot.

How do you know what reflector to connect to in 2024?

How to get into DSTAR That would be a great help. Can get into the reflector, but don’t know the procedure after that.

This is pretty cool. I setup my IC-705 transceiver like you have on this video to module C. I have Wires-X and DMR capabilities. Is your club okay with a friend of mine and I using your system for a short 10 minute QSO on a daily basis or do you have something else in mind for your servers use? I am thinking of setting up a XLX server of my own if this works out.

6:38 Demonstration of how to connect to the gateway. PTT one time connects to Gateway, PTT each time after that is speaking normally via the gateway.

Why do they have to make this so complicated ? with the FT-3d for instance you just program the repeater, hotspot press wires-x , search for the room you want, save it and you're done, easy recall then in the history.
D-Star seems a lot more complicated, forget DMR, that's just not fit for Ham radio use at all it takes so long to program anything.

11:18 If you're using a local repeater via RF, you should always have TO set to Use Reflector.

    Thank you very much.
I have a big issue. When I'm in terminal mode and connected to a reflector, xlx227 to be precise, I receive conversations from another reflectors, xlx226 for example and also from another direction ( I'm not sure if is the xlx118 or my local repetor, because are linked together)
Very annoying. What I'm doing wrong?

So if I understand this correctly, you can't just connect via WiFi and tell the radio to go to Reflector 001 and then later change your WiFi output to change to another reflector. You are basically on whatever reflector your WiFi site is connected to can we can not change that. Do I have that right?

Hello FreetheGeek. Thanks for the video. I am from the Philippines. Not many DStar users here, from what I know. I have the 705. I tried the setup you described. I used your gateway and UR. I can see the cloud icon, up arrow goes orange, then after a while the green arrow comes up. And a UR? callsign appears. I called CQ a couple of times, maybe 7am your time, but I don’t hear anything nor get a response. I know I am missing something but don’t know what. Any thing else I need to do? Thanks again.

As a follow up, I can see my call N1MYM in your dashboard. Does this mean my setup is correct? Thanks

I had the same problem . I try to open the 40000 UDP port on my router, then I asked my Internet provider a public IP.
      Now is working

So, if you are in Italy, for example, you can connect to the US....does that mean you do not need a full licence to transmit in this case because you are talking from a US repeater?
