I took my little sister to go see Penguins of Madagascar yesterday, and she kept asking me why the wolf kept saying "penguins" so weird. I told her it was just his accent for ease of answer, and then I remembered it's Benedict that plays the wolf.

he's right, he had a team of staff, editors who hear pengwings and said, lets leave that in the final take. turned an otherwise unnoteworthy documentary about islands into a cult classic.
You know for a damn fact that every single one of those teammembers were going "Shhh! Shh! Don't correct him, it'll be funny..."

Anyone real enough to make fun of themselves (not being able to say "penguins" for example) gets my vote. He's also more than a pretty face. He's a really good actor. He's played so many disparate roles equally well that he's proven he has some impressive acting chops. In addition, he's funny, gracious, charming, and intelligent. Methinks I've been detecting some "sour grapes" in some of these comments. That reflects more on the poster than the actor or his fans.

I had that video! And I was LAUGHING at his mispronounciation. But I figured he did the hip thing -- when forced to study a foreign language, he went for spanish, not french.

His hands weren’t the only thing Dr. Strange lost after his accident. He also lost the ability to say the word “Penguin”
Subnautica actually called their penguins “Pengwings” and the juveniles “Penglings” after this
jeez, Benedict is a rather funny guy
The level of charisma needed to convince a recording studio that confronting you on mispronunciation was not an option is astounding.
My tin-hat theories:
1. It was a by the hour gig and ol’ BC wanted to get additional takes (why though, it probably wasn’t paying that well). Eventually they just gave up.
2. He was put up to it by the producers as a way to ensure the video got tons for free press, and he decided to lean into it knowing he would get to laugh about it a lot over the next few weeks at interviews.
I think what happened here is a bunch of people in the editing booth had a good laugh and kept quiet about the pronunciation mistakes because it was just funny,
Whenever the world is a mean place, I go and watch this. It makes it a little bit better.
