Hi, one of the developers of Hunger here, but most importantly, a big fan of your videos. I’ve been watching you for several years, and you’ve passed on your passion for Hunt: Showdown to me. And now, you’ve made an amazing video about Hunger! I’m really looking forward to you trying out the game. Keep up the great work, and thank you!
the game looks promising! I hope that everything goes well on your side for the early access release, and that the studio will be able to work hand in hand with the community
Hope you are cooking your own lighting system and not using Lumen. Supposedly that is the problem with performance using Unreal 5. Please don't design games that require a 4090 to play or a game that has to use DLSS. There is a reason games from 10 years ago look better then the blurry DLSS BS coming out now days. Be a real dev and not one using crutches like DLSS.
Hunt is my favorite competitive game despite its recent issues. Hunger is the ONLY game that seems to be vying for the audience of methodical, smart gameplay with low rates of fire. AND a looter extraction that actually has team revive? Goodbye Marauders, I like to have fun with my friends. I'm not saying this game is a Hunt killer. But what I am saying is the more Crytek neglects its core audience's concerns, the more appealing Hunger looks to that audience. Glad to have some competition.
Competition is always better for the market, and part of Cryteks neglect probably comes from how now game even compares to it. Will this kill hunt? No, if hunt dies that will be Cryteks fault, not Hungers.
Why do you think Marauders failed? I remember playing that game when it became available to play and the player count fell off pretty damn hard despite being a pretty damn unique take on the extraction genre. I loved it aesthetically and remember it actually playing pretty well, shooting mechanics, movement was all decent. not sure why it never took off more?
Thank you Psychoghost I appreciate you bringing this game forward to my attention. As a long time Hunt Showdown player, mildly getting burnt out from the balance and event scheduling since it was released 7 years ago, I think I am absolutely going to be trying out Hunger when I can. :)
I know that people are discussing if this game will make competition within the extraction shooter, but it is cool that multiple Hunt Devs on Twitter have shown their excitement for the art they have made so far. I'm just glad this game looks super cool!
NGL, as a pipe smoker I was really admiring the pipe design and I missed that too. Its actually very clever, but not sure I would want to suck on that one. Maybe on display, up high away from the kiddos :D
character and weapon design looks great for the setting, but the map screenshot feel like something out of something like the revenant movie, not exactly napoleonic lol
Oh man, I’ve been waiting for coverage on this game since the trailer dropped earlier this year! Thank you for posting this. I’m hoping it’ll scratch my hunt showdown itch since that game.. I still play, but it isn’t what it used to be.
without gameplay footage I will not get close to be hyped. We had a lot of games with big announcements and teasers and they flew high for a few days and fell down because they lacked the true experience.

Hunger, being developed by Good Fun Corporation. From what I can tell this is the company's flagship title, so everything hinges on its success. I can also safely assume this will be a PC only game, so my hopes of it ever coming to Playstation are basically crushed. Looks like a really cool game and concept though. Hopefully it does well!
Again, the company is formerly Black Matter. This is their 2nd game they're making, after selling the Hell Let Loose IP for ~$60 million. They have plenty of experience at making games. This is also not the only game they're working on right now. They have another project that's posted on their website.
I really hope that the game won't end up like The Cycle and I hope that Hunt will feel the cold breath on his neck and start working hard, having competition Mike looks happy and excited E: Damn, now I want to watch AoT again, I can seriously feel the vibe
The Borodino (named after the biggest battle of Napoleon's Russian campaign obviously) is a so-called 'pepperbox' - predecessor to revolvers. The percussion cones seen on some of the guns, including the saber with the revolver and the revolving carabine is something that was invented around 1820, just after the Napoleonic era - so either are somewhat anachronistic (I wouldn't care really) or the game is set in the 1820/30/40s when percussion locks really stuck. There are some good ideas, but this game will only achieve dark and darker popularity. Crafting items and having that Tarkov component will just lead to OP teams with OP weapons with above average skill. One of those games yu would have have to no life to be decent which many won’t.z
I hope it turns out good. I need another game to replace Hunt Showdown. I don't like the direction Hunt has been heading in since 1896 update. Crytek is backstabbing their core players and I can't wait to leave for good.
If I pick up this game, I'm going to main the Barking Iron just for the Final Fantasy 8 vibe! Gunblade ftw! Sidenote : the real-life counterpart for the Borodino is called a "Pepperbox"
The best Content Creator has spoken. I like your point of view, this game have a lot of potential. If they introduce at least some of their ideas at the beginning, it will be a big competitor to Hunt. Then they always have a way to develop the game further. I like it. I like the vibe of this game, concept art and whole "old weapon" stylish. And! big role of melee weapons in this game. I'm waiting for future "Psychoghost 'dev' update" ;)
Strong art and vision. (Some of the concept art looks a bit too Renaissance but it could work for enemies or with some more modern elements) Its at least gonna be nice watching it. The pistols we saw are at least mostly steampunk or at least extrapolated from some rare prototypes. The Napoleonic era was still dominated by muskets. I hope the PvE aspect gets some depth. As much as I love Hunt the monsters are really just nuisances that tip the balance during a PvP battle.
As a bit of a fan nerd of the Napoleonic wars, i.e. had to do my history degree on it, I'm so excited for some of the elements, the Eagle standard as a mace, the dragoon and old guard characters it looks so good so far ty Mike great vid
This has been on my wishlist a long time, so I'm glad to see more things finally being revealed. Hunt is pretty much the only "dark/gothic historical extraction shooter" title out there, so to finally see a competitor is a real breath of fresh air. I've personally grown tired of Hunt with recent updates after years of playing it weekly/daily, and this looks like an incredible alternative so far. Hunting or running from unknowable horrors while looting what scraps you can find in a grounded, grimdark blackpowder setting is quite possibly my favorite genre of thing ever, so I really hope the devs are able to do amazing things with this.
I feel like they could greatly cut down on RMT issues with the auction house by taking a page from Last Epoch's approach and just make it something you have to "level up" before you can buy or sell certain gear. Could even lift the whole system and have two paths; access to progress through the auction house, or big bonuses to crafting and targeted loot.
What i really hope for those guns is that they leave huge smoke clouds that don't disappear before, like, 20 seconds. Use the chain pistol carbine more than 3 consecutive shots and get completely blinded. Black powder is no joke. EDIT Also, the Borodino is a pepperbox revolver - no clue what the holes on the side of the receiver are supposed to be, and it seems to suffer from the same design flaw as the LeMat in Hunt : no way to properly close the break-action. I'm really hoping for paper cartridges, although it's unlikely given the rifle uses big bore metal cartridges. I also wish for some period accurate weapons such as the Dragoon "An IX" rifle! Would be cool as hell.
Very interesting game, glad that you showed me this one. Another one that I'll be keeping an eye on. I am a big fan of Hunt: Showdown since it came out. But this looks like it has potential as well. Stoked to seeing more of it anytime soon. Whenever you get the chance to play test this. I'll be looking at your footage 100%.
Trespasser was the first game i remember with an crazy immersive hud ... you had to look down at your heart tattoo on your breast to check hp status :O
I am happy to hear that the game is coming soon. I wish they give you a chance to show us a gameplay asap It will be a good competition for Hunt Showdown.
The Borodino is a "volley gun" instead of a revolver. usually, volley guns fired all of their barrels at once and had impact similar to a shotgun. This one being a "hand cannon" variant seems to take the usually rifle sized gun and makes it into a pistol variant, which also existed.
Every time I play a UE5 game on console it looks like someone spread Vaseline on the screen and then let a cat rub all over it. Immortals of Aveum or whatever the fuck it’s called looked absolutely hideous
This looks amazing, it's nothing like it at all but the way that your describing the game, it's sounding like The Division, with the PVE, PVP and crafting. Can't wait to see it.
I sense some vermintide vibes also. It would be great to choose / swap your loadout (or maybe just some limited stuff) when you arrive on the map, only near your balloon or something like that.
I'm looking for a replacement game for Post Malone's Hunt: Showdown(PM) and hopefully Hunger will be that game. I'm a little iffy on the looting and crafting systems but I'll keep an open mind.
I thought that maybe I missed an announcement at the game awards or something but the trailer is 4 months old. I’ll probably wishlist it on Steam to remember about it
My most anticipated game as soon as it was announced. I am super happy (and not surprised ;)) you will follow this one! Hope melee will be good and balanced because i dont think it is easy to reproduce the amazing gameplay of game like chivalry or Mordhau. I also hope it will be available on console ASAP because there is a huge community with no other game like that on console. I cant wait to play this game, especially since Hunt has been taken over by those ex-COD devs...
Hey Mike. Love your vids. Long time fan. I believe you might have made a guess wrong about the s-s-s-eramic gernades.... hehe I believe they may progress as well like the axe you showed directly after due to the fact they are exactly the same in build only a skin change basically the paint on it and that a smoke gernade would never have steel balls in them. Keep up the great work as always!
Very cool review and that game looks super promising. I joined their Discord right after I saw the trailer (in september for me). Can't wait to see more!
Can't wait to try this game! I have it iny my wishlist since the trailer drop and it really looks promising. Hunt/Crytek seriously needs a competition and this could be it. Maybe when they will see that somebody cares about game, they start to care again about the Hunt as well. Hope that Hunger will stick to the melee with some slow fire rate weapons and that it won't turn in another Dungeonborn type of game. Looking forward to see more from this game!
I played Hunt since 2018 and recently got into the Trench Crusade. Hunger seems like a f-ing awesome grimdark universe! Be certainly trying it out myself.
I'm excited to see this coverage. I assume that this was you being given an exclusive look at some of the game's content and not some kind of sponsorship?
This game has been on my radar since it's been announced, it's awesome that you're covering it. I'm wondering if this game will have seasonal wipes like other extraction games, which would be a massive turn off for me (probably other people too). For me Hunt having permanent progression is one of its biggest selling points as an extraction shooter. Will be interesting to see just how exactly the prestige system works in Hunger.
20:51 the tip of the mace looks like it would be the projectile, as in, the entire shaft of the mace is a hollow tube packed with powder and a projectile. how effective it would be in this era of guns? not sure, but probably meant to be used in a press up against and then trigger fashion.
Great walkthrough and thoughts on this content, Mike! This game looks so interesting and the art style is right up my alley, looking forward to see how the development progresses 🤘
8:25 Well it looks like it's going to be used as a weapon in the game but originally that's an eagle standard of the first french empire. Remember the eagle standards of roman legions? Napoleon gave simillar things to his troops. They served as the Colours of their units. They were normally adorned with a french flag too, though many units decided to keep the flag at home and campaign with the eagle only. The eagles bore the number of their regiment or the sign "Garde Imperiale" for units of the imperial guard. Napoleon's soldiers were expected to die defending their eagle and (unlike the 1300(!) standards captured by the french between 1792 and 1814 and burned before the capture of Paris in 1814) relatively few were ever captured by the enemy. Almost all were subsequently molten down after Napoleon's defeat and abdication though.
Really hoping this comes to console sometime too. I adore Hunt but have had a couple issues with some of the decisions they've made, and would love an alternative to turn to or to play alongside. There are not a lot of extraction shooters on console and this would definitely scratch the itch I get for Hunt.
really looking forward to it. but the name is a search engine nightmare. hunger alone is to vague and hunger game, yeah, good luck competing with a big book/movie franchise. hunger 1876, maybe? ^^
People have already explained that the Borodino is a pepper box but I'd also like to point out that it seems like it has a real life counterpart in the form of Robbins & Lawrence brand pepperbox pistols.
I'm loving that there is still games fighting against the mainstream current of colorfull silly games with no real identity or immersion. GO HUNGER! As an avid Hunt Showdown player I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one!
Oh damn, I had my eye on this game just bc it looked Hunt-esque but now knowing it's going to be full loot I'm guessing like Tarkov, will be amazing. A hub like Darktide, An extract system akin to the Dark Zone's from The Division? Builds? The game looks crazy good too. Hope they make the weather dynamic do you see it ahead of time like Tarkov or even have it change during raid as well? Characters look cool too, this game just seems genuinely interesting, more so than before. Looking forward to it.
I hope we get some “basic” or custom characters. I don’t like playing as pre-determined, named heros. Kind of breaks my immersion if there are multiple people running around as the same guy, etc, and I really like my character feeling like my own. Since the game has a skill tree it seems like an obvious choice to let you build how you want and look how you want.
16:00 I recognize it as a similar, real-life "cousin", the Pepper Box pistol. A lot of similarities between the two, although the pepper box was used like 1830's. but hey, artistic licensing am I right? lol
16:07 Looks like a double action only pepperbox revolver with an internal hammer. They were very popular in the us and Britain before the J and Y frame revolvers we are more accustom too where invented. Hope they add the Adams Revolver as well
Can't wait to get more on this one! Thank you for covering Hunger. I really love Hunt, but time is catching up with it. I hope Hunger will be something that I can continue with one day when Hunt is gone and done... Also, if you would transition to Hunger too, I know I'll have a steady stream of quality content guaranteed. ❤ Bring Joe and Kerrty with you will ya?
Tnx Mike i was w8ing for this moment that someone care about this game i saw only the trailers long ago and nobody makes good videos like you. I hope it‘s gonna be good. Really like the vibe of this game with the fancy weapons. I‘m just a Bit concerned because of previous „copycat“ games. They said Lord Of Fallen is going to kill Elden Ring (it doesn‘t). They said Anthem is going to kill Destiny 2 (it doesn’t). In fact all of those „copycat“ games lived for how long? 1 maybe 3 month.. so yeah lets see. Ahh by the way: There is a real company called Ludwig which is producing drums since 1909 (because of the backpack in the video)

that "revolver" is likely more of a 5 shot pepperbox, meaning it shoots all five at once, also why it is a break action.

18:08 A holy hand grenade.
Haha you beat me to it was gonna say the same
This looks great. Thanks for sharing. On my Steam wishlist now!
Everytime i see Unreal Engine 5, i fear the performance will be absolute garbage. Many Devs rely on Lumen and Nanite and it kills the performance.
I first saw this game a few months ago and have had it on my wishlist since. Thanks for covering it, I'm very excited to see anything new about it.
I'm looking for a replacement game for Post Malone's Hunt: Showdown(PM) and hopefully Hunger will be that game.
I'm a little iffy on the looting and crafting systems but I'll keep an open mind.
Maybe the second grenade is holy water. Could be cool.
I really hope this game does good on release; the aesthetic and overall vibe it’s giving is like a Hunt-Trench Crusade mix.
Hey Mike. Love your vids. Long time fan. I believe you might have made a guess wrong about the s-s-s-eramic gernades.... hehe
I believe they may progress as well like the axe you showed directly after due to the fact they are exactly the same in build only a skin change basically the paint on it and that a smoke gernade would never have steel balls in them.
Correct, genuine interest, no sponsorship
@@PsychoghostGaming Cool! Honestly wish more preview videos for upcoming games had this much content in them. Very hyped to see what's next!
No wipes (afaik)
The eagle on the pole during the roman era symbolized authority and territory.
Can't help with high hope in this, since 2017-18 its like FINALLY the next game that gave me the real hype apart from HUNT SHOWDOWN years ago.
Thanks Mike for the cool showcase. Wishlisted the game.
this is really going to scratch that grimdark itch from a fps perspective...the Trench Crusade/war transformed vibes are really doing it for me
20:51 the tip of the mace looks like it would be the projectile, as in, the entire shaft of the mace is a hollow tube packed with powder and a projectile. how effective it would be in this era of guns? not sure, but probably meant to be used in a press up against and then trigger fashion.
A ballistic mace……i need this
Great walkthrough and thoughts on this content, Mike! This game looks so interesting and the art style is right up my alley, looking forward to see how the development progresses 🤘
23:06 that's a phrygian hat, symbol of the revolution
Bushwacker recommended this. Solid vid
Nice info :D
Really hoping this comes to console sometime too. I adore Hunt but have had a couple issues with some of the decisions they've made, and would love an alternative to turn to or to play alongside. There are not a lot of extraction shooters on console and this would definitely scratch the itch I get for Hunt.
Big Silver Bayonet vibes from this one. I'll absolutely play this. Can't wait!
As im looking at this primarily as competition to Hunt, i really wanna know about their sound system. Is it a main focus like in Hunt?
If you ever played hell let loose, their previous game, sound was and still is complet crap
As long as there are no scopes, I'll be fine with the game.
Fair
Looks really great! Always try not to get my hopes up but I'm super down for this.
The game looks super promising, can't wait.
really looking forward to it. but the name is a search engine nightmare. hunger alone is to vague and hunger game, yeah, good luck competing with a big book/movie franchise. hunger 1876, maybe? ^^
People have already explained that the Borodino is a pepper box but I'd also like to point out that it seems like it has a real life counterpart in the form of Robbins & Lawrence brand pepperbox pistols.
If they can do it half more competently than Crytek with Hunt, it should grab my attention. Finally an alternative.
I've been waiting so long to see some more info about this game. I WANT
Yes, Hunt is at a stage desperately need a competitor otherwise slowly sinking
First extraction game that REALLY catches my attention besides Hunt.. Let's wait and see, looking forward to it. :)
Weather we will have to wait :(
I hope we get some “basic” or custom characters. I don’t like playing as pre-determined, named heros. Kind of breaks my immersion if there are multiple people running around as the same guy, etc, and I really like my character feeling like my own. Since the game has a skill tree it seems like an obvious choice to let you build how you want and look how you want.
Funny, I looked back on their Discord like 10min ago to check if there were any news, and bang, new vid about it :D
This is looking promising! Wanna see more about this!
As HUNT goes the wrong spray&pray way (at least imho), i hope this will be my new main game.
16:00 I recognize it as a similar, real-life "cousin", the Pepper Box pistol. A lot of similarities between the two, although the pepper box was used like 1830's. but hey, artistic licensing am I right? lol
** actually, i looked it up and the early ones came out in early 1800's so i suppose they are right on the money with the dates.
16:07 Looks like a double action only pepperbox revolver with an internal hammer. They were very popular in the us and Britain before the J and Y frame revolvers we are more accustom too where invented. Hope they add the Adams Revolver as well
Well done, got me hyped.
Cant wait for gameplay. Great video.
The Borodino pistol is a weapon know as a "pepperbox" this was a early form of double action revolver.
17:55 THEY MADE HOLY HAND GERNADES!! LMAO
The words "extraction shooter" and the word "build" in the same sentence immediately peaks my interest 😂
Looks very nice , i Like the Style 👌🏾
Looks very nice! Can't wait to try it out :D
Tnx Mike i was w8ing for this moment that someone care about this game i saw only the trailers long ago and nobody makes good videos like you.
Also we needed new game becouse Crytek disapoint me alot with those new changes that Hunt is not Hunt like we use to Know or use to be old fancy guns but they run for something that is out of hunt: Showdown so yeah im gonna say im w8ing for this game and also for New Videos.
closest real-life inspirations imo:
The Auster: Double-Barrel Flintlock Pistol
The Borodino: Pepper-Box Revolver
The Cavalier: Blunderbuss Pistol
That isn't a blunderbuss. It's just another flintlock pistol with a standard barrel...and possibly a fantasy breech loading system.
The concept of this game is awesome hope there will come more
I hope it‘s gonna be good.
Wouldn't call it a copy cat, just because it's an extraction shooter/slasher too :)
I am very excited about it. I hope they can match Hunts Sound design.
