- In this video I show you how to use an ALPS MD-5000 to print with white ink. This is very useful for printing decals for your Hot Wheels Customs.
Big thanks to Dave at Toy Polloi!! Check out and Sub to his channel!!!

Love the guest spot from another of my favorite UA-camrs. You guys are like buddies to me keep up the great work all of you
I liked the crossover too. It was different, but I thought it fit really well. I'd like to see more of these whenever possible
Scott Wiegand ....same hear
The work and advice everyone gives on here is truly inspiring. I check my subscriptions several times a day just waiting for a new video to come out. I hooe to joining the ranks soon just goto figure out video editing
Now can't ihave it plzz
Thanks for inviting me to take part. My acting is terrible :D The end result looks great!
You were totally cool I'm going to have to check your channel out
Amendment to that, I already have subscribed to channel, thought something seemed familiar :-)
I've seen worse acting. You also kept it short, so even if it had been bad, it wouldn't have been that bad.
It does look great. But I am curious as to why you did the work in Photoshop and not Illustrator?
You made an amazing appearance and collaboration, and mate you haven't seen my acting XD
The cinematography is what made this video so awesome. My favorite part was the build-up of the introduction to toyboy, and how you found the hidden browser you needed on order to contact him in the first place, not to mention the end result of the car.
Edit: toy polloi
I had one of those TRS-80 computers. Had the dual floppies and a cassette drive.
It was good to see Dave from Toy Polloi, on this video. He has such a great channel. I'm shocked he has so few subscribers. He does amazing toy fixes.
Thanks. My subscribers are growing, but very slowly. Working on projects like this seems to be the best way to get found. UA-cam don't make it easy otherwise.
@@toypolloi, I'm just shocked you don't have a million+ subscribers. You produce such good content, while others, with a million subscribers, are all flash with no substance.
Oh well, I'll keep promoting your channel on Facebook and other sites on the internet.
Interesting to see an Alps product here of all places. They're most well known in keyboard enthusiast circles for their mechanical keyboard switches, which they stopped making some time ago. Looks like switches weren't the only great product they stopped making.
Hahaha 😅 for your last sentence.
I thought of Dave while you were showing the search and a pleasant surprise to see you guys do a collaboration.
Oh man that printer menu brought back haunting memories of the 90s, can’t believe you bought such an old device for 600
For simple few colored graphics, you might check out InkScape to convert your raster image to a vector image. Vector will give you cleaner scaling without the stairstepping that happens scaling raster images. I am a complete novice at Inkscape but I was able to convert a small raster image easily and was able to scale perfectly down to the size I needed. Thanks for posting these awesome vids! I keep thinking I might try something like this one day but honestly I will probably just keep appreciating guys like you and Marty posting your vids :)
Wow! You totally went old school, it was great to recall the old 5 1/4 drive & dos screen. great job!
Awesome collab with David at toypolloi! Love it!
Awesome guest spot!! Another great video as always!
I loved the whole tutorial! Thanks for sharing , it was helpful and fun too.
I'm felling really old right now. Great show, thanks for stirring up some memories.
Oh man this video brings back my childhood. Nice work! Thank you for this!
Absolutely love you partnered with Toy Polloi
Two of my favourites together!!!!! Brilliant!!
Had an MD-1300 back when they came out. I loved that printer! Great video!
I love getting my dose of these videos. Thanks.
The collab we've all been waiting on!
You have the skills of a surgeon. To line up the decals on such a small surface. You're really good.
Awesome to see you working togheter with toy polloi!
Result on that vette look awesome! But what a cumbersome way to get everything working..
Loved the "drinking game". Lovely addition, that is what sets the good videos from the excellent vidios. Carry on!
Fantastic crossover! I love Toy Polloi
Shows like this really show why you are the best and my most favorite, actually our most favorite... my six-year-old really loves watching your shows, also my three year old! When I was watching this I was thinking and ask myself does he just make these shows to really show how awesome he is and to just show off this mad skills in your Superior knowledge inability!! You make it all so fun. Thanks
Fantastic collab.
I did not see that one coming. Amazing cameo!
really enjoyed that crossover!
Just keeps on getting better.
I love all of your work ... but this may be one of the coolest you've done ... the music is fantastic ...
I know you went through a lot for that decal but I still prefer the model without it. But I love your attention to detail and I love how hard you work to entertain us. We are appreciative.
Aw sweet my design won! I'm super glad you liked it.! Good video.
great effort on this video. Mad respect
Best work I've seen!!
Enjoy all your videos!
I think we would watch any vidio you made regardless of its content, we're now hooked! Have a good one!
M8 that was fun as hell and I learned jet another form of printing. Keep it up 😊😊
Great video, I really enjoyed the extra content. I haven't seen a Tracey PC since 1977, though I regularly tell my sons stories of programming the Z80 processor in the library at school. That was before we even knew what a geek was. Also love the collaborative work with other UA-camrs. This Old Tony look out.
I don't think I ever had stickershock over a printer before xD
This was a great informative video and the end result is really cool, I loved the collab you and Dave did aswell :D
This came out dope. Awesome
Nice! Love the crossover!!😊❤️👍🏼
I had no idea what was involved in something like this. Very interesting,
Dude, your sub-par acting skills are great... all three of you.
As a suggestion to the DIYers out there, may I suggest Inkscape? It has served me well over the last decade, has lots of active support and as a vector program works very well with wysiwyg printing like decales and logos. Almost every operating system is represented (though I do NOT recommend the Android port!)
Any way, great vid - again! Stay up!
Very interesting process Sir.
Always a fun and informative ride with BaremetalHW
Awesome cameo!
Great crossover!
Very helpful, this helped me. Thanks👍
love it. y'all are so cool
This was so good. I want to see this as a legitimate film plot.
My partner works at a big award/medal store and they use a giant commercial version of this sort of machine to print in color on 3D shapes made from glass and resin. That machine costs more than a new car, but stores like that might be willing to print a small design onto a transparent transfer sheet for a low cost, making the technology available to hobbyists. Worth looking at if you're in a city large enough.
Best. Cross. Over. Ever.
*I bought that color shift paint and it looks awesome. Tried it out on my latest custom*
Holy crap....UA-cam worlds collided. Toy Polloi and baremetalHW. Things will never be the same!
It looks really good! It would be great to see a video a week
This is great content!
Awesome bud, I looked into the Alps printers but they were really just too dear and hard to get my hand on for now. Great to see one working.
Pretty cool
Nice job. Nice job on everything by the way
VERY COOL!
Love your work. Would love to see a copper race car like the candy striper or something keep up the videos
Mind.
Blown.
Great video! Also great to see Toy Polloi!
Of course, now those printers are going to be like hen’s teeth to find and when they are found, it will need a king’s ransom to buy one...
Definitely a niche market for someone to consider given the uptake in restoration videos for all manner of items, not just die-cast models.
Watching old photoshop techniques is great, thank god for the pen tool
That's nice, however there's a HUGE problem with these Alps products. They stopped doing ANYTHING related to that technology in 2015, 'cuz they tried to sell it to everybody and almost no one wanted such technology. So, while right now it may be easy to get those cassettes to replace the used ones, as time pass, it'll become more difficult to find such products and the prices will rise.
I hope some wiseguy start to replicate this consumibles, if the original factory does´t offer anymore i think they don´t upsed if anyone does it.
@@guillermodelapazgarza7717 Actually, I think it may. Just like video game compagnies doesn't like the distribution of roms of games that they don't sell anymore. They have a patent on this and it costed them money to get it, therefore I don't think they would be happy to see people make "pirate tapes" of their products when, when they sold it, it barely sold.
@@chassegallerie2910 i agree with the cost of the patent, but if i´m not misinformed vgr. Ford have liscenced some companies for low cost to make items long, long time ago din´t do, let´s say model T
@@guillermodelapazgarza7717 yea they could just license it to after market manufacturers im guessing
Sweet vette love the wheels 😋😎
Enjoyed the video! Subpar acting fits perfectly with the deadpan delivery - more please! I wouldn't call G.I. Joe "pinhead" though- he will get you with his kungfu grip!
Awesome collab and maybe the greatest since endgame ;)
woah a matrix dot printer, thats a blast from the past
Wow, I'm stoked that you considered my phoenix design. The stingray is indeed the correct choice though.
Loved the final comment at the end! Next time say "decals" more
A nice Mad Max template might be the Hot Wheels Swagblaster. It was a McDonald’s exclusive, but it can’t be too hard to find and I have two just in case.
You have inspired me to create many different things, I’ve recently tried a diorama. I was wondering if there was anyway I could show you
Duh make a vid on it
these printers are also available under the label Citizen Printiva. I have one here ;-)
The exciting thing is that they also print metal inks, gold, silver, copper...
The purpose was probably small print shops, but I know that florists also use them to print on ribbons.
The printers were however probably competition for large printing houses and I have read that there were these still further in larger format where the printer then cost over 50000 $
Nice job
I have one of these old printers, but the Mac version, from 1997. I haven't had a computer with a SCSI port for more than 15 years, though. I think it probably still works, but I'd need a dedicated relic to run it. That being said, the graphic should be redrawn with vectors. Photoshop can do it (with the Pen tool), but Illustrator excels at this. I don't think that you need to go all the way back to a floppy drive system to get the art you need.
Also, that printer will hold onto your print, so you can change cartridges, and print additional colors in precise registration. It can also print on a variety of thicknesses of material. I was able to print on 10-point card stock.
Don't bother with the metallics other than silver. You can color the silver into anything with overprinting the CMYK inks.
It's a terrific printer in the right hands. Thanks for the nostalgia. Damn, I miss using my ALPS.
(Full disclosure: I've worked in Graphic Design for 30 years and have access to these tools and skills. YMMV.)
Your buddy should have used the Pen tool. It's built exactly for projects like this.
I was thinking the same on that part of the video, although the image is clear enough that probably the easiest way would be to path trace on illustrator
I've never used the pen tool. Always the lasso like in the video. Don't you need a stylus for the pen tool?
There are many ways to get the same results in photos shop. It depends what the final file will be used for and the size it needs to be. For me this is a quick method that gives results that work. But you can do it whichever way suits. Cheers
@@TheTural oh, is that the tool that creates curves and such that you can stretch or change with those handles? I never really mastered that....
Whats your all time favorite hotwheels casting im curious ?
Thank you
Great Video - The SW1A 1AA postal code, or in the USA they call it ZIP code, relates to Buckingham Palace!
Gotta say I quite enjoyed this video, especially the part where Toy Polloi came in. Felt like one of those older movies where main character is faced with a dilemma, but first needs to locate a long lost individual who disappeared off the grid decades earlier to assist them in their mission. Again quite enjoyed that, and I think Toy Polloi will be gaining another subscriber after I finish this comment. Out of curiosity, where would I be able to get in contact with you through personal message?
Hey @baremetalHW do u have a link for the stringray because i love it and was wondering if I could get the flie for it for my custom stringray
Excellent work! I need two replacement decals for a 1/18 model. I have the vector art. Would you print for me?
I first heard about these printers in Model Railroader years upon years ago. I've wanted one of these a long time.
They are the best.... wish they were a tad cheaper...lol
@@baremetalHW I frustratingly designed my model railroad's paint scheme to use white lettering in the style of the Calsonic Skylines, so the ability to print in white would be good. I'll have to keep an eye out and see if I can score a deal on one of these like you did.
Frug I knoob it buzz..wazz..were'd...(HIC)...ahhhhh forbed aboot bit. 🍻 Cool vid man, floppy disk blew my mind. Peace.
goog works....thumb up for you
That ending though! 🤣
I used to have one. Sold it on eBay over a decade ago. I miss it. **sniff**
I remember having one of those computers
Buen custom one like👍👍👍
Now I want to learn more about gopher space
Very, very cool...thanks! About the Micro Sol, you put about 10x what you need (no criticism, just saying). Just a light coating is sufficient (dab the decal dry first so there's no water to dilute it) and then make sure you don't touch the decal again until it's all set up again.
Interesting that the lasso tool was used in Photoshop instead of just using live trace on an recent version of illustrator.
The Alps decals looked pretty radical, but still complex emphasized.
Have you tried spraying a second coat of spectraflame on only the top of the car? Kinda making a 'pearlescent' style?
Love ya brother
I can do much the same as toy polloi using CorelDraw. I'd use whatever graphic you had as an underlay and draw the shapes by editing the points in the curves.
I print decals for my hot wheels somewhat frequently
I have a question I have hot wheels that are pretty much like Rusty and broken
Had to call into work...damn drinking games!
There’s a little bit of cracking in the decal. It’ll look better if the decal was spot on. But it looks fantastic tho, great job the stingray is a great choice for the decal, and it makes sense because the car is a stingray corvette.
