    Michelle,
    I want you to know that your weekly videos are part of what keeps me going. I’m in a very hard school and I’m constantly stressed and overwhelmed. I’ve even considered quitting. But you remind me of all the little joys of teaching and keep me inspired to be better, despite the hand that I’ve been dealt. Thank you for being you.

    I stumbled across your videos this weekend and I’ve been binge watching them since! You’re so amazing! I admire your passion and honesty with teaching, and it makes me so excited for my future career! (I’m currently working towards an Elementary Ed. degree)

    I could watch your vlogs all day! I try to take tips on organizing and little activities to do with my babies. So helpful, and just a joy to watch. ❤️
    Send some well vibes to the teachers of Wv who are currently on strike. Monday will make day 3 of the entire state closing schools. I wish everyone appreciated teachers/public workers. (Not a teacher just a mother of littles in school 🙂)

    This is coming from a non tech savvy teacher/private tutor.....would you have time to add to one of your videos exactly how you make task cards? I’m sure it’s probably a no brainer....but, like I mentioned, I am clueless when it comes to tech stuff. Thank you Michelle! You are an inspiration to me and I thoroughly enjoy your content each week. Everything you post is super helpful.

      There are TPT sellers who sell (and even sometimes post for free) task card templates. That's where I get mine from. But you can always just create 2 lines down the middle vertical and middle horizontal and do it that way.

    • @tracy_in_primary
      @tracy_in_primary 6 років тому +4

      I make my own task cards all the time. I use PowerPoint with the slide resized to the size of my paper (we use A4 in Australia). I tend to use landscape and make sure I can view guidelines so I can see where the quarter of the page marker is. Then it's just a matter of inserting shapes (for the border) and text boxes where you want them. I can't tell you have many boring old worksheets I've converted to task cards. It's way more interesting for the kids because they get a movement break at the end of each question, and they're not overwhelmed with how much they're meant to get through.

    So I've just recently found your videos around a week ago, and have watched the Teacher Evolution videos. I just finished this one, so now I'm on the 35th. I have always wanted to become a teacher, since I was young and it's the career for me! You have soooooo reassured me, encouraging me and advising me how I could be the best teacher. Thank you ever so much. I am hoping to make vlogs like yours when I start teaching, as there aren't many Teacher UA-camrs from England. Just wanted to say thank youuu!
    p.s. I am so happy I witnessed you hit 100K subscribers, can't wait to see that number grow even more!

    I have an informal observation this Thursday. We’ve been having them every 2 weeks since we came back from Christmas break. I hate them because they give me so much anxiety. I’m still new to teaching (it’s my second year) so I’m still working on classroom management and lesson delivery. It isn’t easy but it is very rewarding. I’m glad your observation went well. Good luck with your busy week this week!

    I loved the science experiment. Sometimes the salt can stick to the plastic, or the students might not be able to see it. When I was in primary 4 (3rd grade equivalent), we used rice to show this. It’s bigger and it doesn’t stick xx

  • @WeirdlyOCD
    @WeirdlyOCD 6 років тому +15

    Congratulations on the observation, but I don't think anyone here has any doubt that you wouldn't do great. I like the idea of storing the yard sticks in a PVC pipe but I'd make sure it's straped to something so it doesn't fall over since they're usually rounded at one end. Have a great weekend!!

    • @starrydreamer
      @starrydreamer 6 років тому +2

      Actually you can get an attachment that makes it flat and sealed off. I actually think a poster tube is better and cleaner looking. PVC pipes tend to have a "dirty" look to them with product stamping on it.

    It's interesting how different the observation system can be from state to state - where I teach, we don't have any formal observations unless we're up for a contract change or certificate renewal. When I was going from Induction to Annual and Annual to Continuing contracts, I had two formal observations each semester (one announced, one unannounced) as well as multiple informal observations. Now that I'm on a continuing contract and I have gotten my professional teaching certificate (end of 2nd year), I only have informal observations until I get to my Renewal year (every 5th year once you receive your professional certificate - so 2021 for me).
    We all do SLOs every year, but all that gets reported to the state is whether we've Met or Not Met our proficiency goals. There are added observations and things if you're Not Met on an SLO, but I'm not sure what that entails as I've never been through it - this is only our 3rd year, and I've only ever had 1 student not meet their individual goal (by ONE point!!). We're only required to have 80% achieve their goals in order to be considered Met.

The school system in the Detroit area is really slow compared to your area. I hope the kids realize how lucky they are. :)
