The packet says to measure in grams. Grams are a weight measure not a volume measure. I could convert the water into a volume but 1ml of water weighs 1g so it would give me an identical amount, but you can't do that with a powder. It's a UK supplied product and literally nobody in the UK measures dry products using volume because it's horrendously inaccurate, especially with fine powders because of how much they can compact down, meaning it's never actually the same twice. We always use weighing scales and I always work with scales that are accurate to the gram. That way you know you're getting the same amount each time.
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 I used to measure when I first started using eco powders but I dont do it anymore as I know roughly how much powder and water to use by the consistency of it. You will get used to it with practice, but you do have to work quickly. Just make sure you mix and mix and mix again to make sure all that powder is incorporated x
yeah, I know it was definitely too thick but I know some ecos can become very brittle if you mess with the mixing ratio so I was worried about deviating too far from the instructions on my first try. I'm definitely just going to eyeball it next time and work much much faster!
@marymcintyresfxartcraft7417 Sorry Mary forgot to say that when you've poured in some mixture half way stop and give the mold a good old bang and tap to release all the trapped air then continue to pour the rest. Also don't use your spatula to level it off that's why you bang the mold and tap the sides so it levels out. Good luck x
Thank you. I'm definitely just going to eyeball the quantity of water next time. I know that changing the ratio can cause some eco pours to become more brittle so I was worried about not doing what the packet said. I sure as heck can't use it with the "correct" amount of water in it!
Not sure where it’s going wrong Mary I really can’t see you going anything wrong at all. Your mixtures are just coming out far too thick. I do measure the powder but I pour the liquid by ear.
I'm definitely just doing it by eye next time. I've seen that some products can end up more fragile if you mess with the mixing ratio but there's no way I can use this product using that ratio so I kinda have to eyeball it from now on!
Forgot to add, the colours turned out great!
Try aqua cast its amazing and so much cheaper and not as lumpy. I love using it
i would measure by volume not weight. like cooking.

Meant to add, youve not used enough water its way too thick. You should be able to pour it into the mold lol

Just add a thin layer of resin, I do it all the time. I think your mixture was way too thick thus the uneven finish
