I wanted to give everyone on here some real info on the TCL R655. First it's GREAT TV for gaming, Honestly probably the best at this price point. I myself like so many was on the fence with the TCL R655 and the Hisense U8H. The U8H is a great TV, one of the best for sure at this price point, but the TCL R655 takes the win by a slight lead for better natural most realistic picture quality, especially for gaming. The U8H has a slightly less natural realistic look and is a tad over saturated and can crush black's slightly as well. Yes the U8H can get super bright but the TCL gets really bright as well, just slightly less bright then the U8H, but it's nothing to even care about becuase the TCL R655 gets plenty bright. It's perfect and the real winner for the TCL R655 is that it gives a slightly better more natural realistic picture then the U8H does, and especially for gaming the TCL R655 takes the crown by a hair, and is truly the best TV for gaming there is at this price point. I want to provide some great settings for us gamers out there for the TCL R655. I have done some extensive testing on picture settings for gaming on the TCL R655. I have lots of experience with this over the years with many HD TV's. I feel I have a keen eye for achieving the most realistic picture settings for gaming. Keep in mind most games you will need to go into the game options menu within the game itself and tweak the HDR balance and saturation balance within the game, but with the picture settings I'm offering here for the settings for the TCL R655 this should provide the best all around most realistic picture for games, and again each game individually you still want to go into the game options menu and adjust from there as well for each game, but when you do that it should work extremely well with the provided settings I'm giving here for the TCL R655 picture settings. Try these setting within the picture settings menu for the TCL R655. Also keep in mind that don't go with the gaming HDR setting it's to dark. Go with Bright and Brighter settings. It will go into game mode so no worries. See below. TV brightness - Brighter Picture mode - Bright HDR Local contrast - High Color temperature - Warm Backlight - 99 Brightness - 45 Contrast - 99 Sharpness - 26 Color - 82 Tint - Default As stated you will want to go into each game individually as well and adjust within the game options menu for each game but when you do that it will go great with these provided TCL R655 picture settings I'm giving everyone. If you're a gamer the TCL wins by a slight margin over the Hisense U8H but the U8H is still an awesome TV as well. Bonus hint, COD MW2 is all jacked up with the HDR options menu and you need to set the HDR settings within your Xbox settings calibration. Once you do that go into graphics options in COD MW2 and turn on FidelityFX Cas then set FidelityFX Cas Strength to 36. Hope this helps for anyone playing COD MW 2. I'll close on a few things. The speakers on the TCL R655 are garbage but who cares you don't buy a TV especially for gaming to use your TV speakers. Get a great surround sound system. I got a New Vizio M series Dolby Atmos sound bar and wireless rear 5.1 speakers and it's really great. I'll finally close on the Coil Whine issue. it's NOT a defect. Coil whine is something that always happens on electronics, but you most of the time can't hear it or pay little attention to it. It is slightly louder on the TCL R655 TV, but it's not a defect. Coil whine is just the high level electric current going through the coil wires and it's actually a sign that the TV is working properly. Sorry for those who returned this great TV thinking it's a defect becuase it's not and it only happens on a full black screen which rarely happens anyway. Hope this helps everyone and if you can find the TCL R655 get it, it's a great TV, especially if you're a gamer then it's the best you can get at the price point.
hmm, just checked the price and the only price I am seeing on Amazon seems to be from a third party seller and it's almost $1000 so nowhere near $700 anymore. That suckas becuase my budget is $700. It seems the closest thing to this would be their R635 series which doesn't support 4K 120hz but is below $700. I'll have to Google it and see if there are any reputable retailers offering this TV at less then $700.
I just bought this TV today... I only got to spend an hour playing with it, but it absolutely looks incredible. I'm hoping TCL has some sort of recall or repair for the known "coil" issue. I bought an extended warranty both through GeekSquad and I'll get one through TCL just to cover all my bases... I have NEVER played at 120FPS or anything over 60 so I'm beyond excited to get to experience on both my PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Even though I got this tv on black Friday for pretty much MSRP, it is still a good deal. Paid much more for worst tvs before. Mini led technology is pretty impressive. It handles motion very well also. Great daily driver tv for the living room
TCL always been the best bang for your buck tvs and it seems to work since they are the preferred choice for most of the customers who buy in the 400-650 range. Nice info for the history of TCL and how they are able to sell their TV way cheaper than competitors
Yeah i'm def thinking of getting one and making a Pc couch gaming setup. At first i wanted to buy an LC C2 Oled but honestly i'm pretty scared of burn-in specially i'm planning to play a lot of games like Diablo4 when it release and it has some static skill bars and party members being on the left side of the screen.
@@sylvainh2o I did my tv buying study back in 2017-18 but they said if you have a dark room oled can't be beat but in a brighter living room might not get the optimal situation to show off its true power. Also check the current model oleds to see if they improved burn in prevention and panel quality assurance. That was the same issue that scared me off oled. When you pay big money you just want it to work well with no issues
I used an RCA to 3.5 and plugged the RCA into my speakers and the 3.5 into the TV. not sure if its bad or not but it works. they are just stereo speakers tho and that's it
Great review, Watts. The intro is informative and glad that you brought up the squealing sound that no other reviewers seem to have brought up. Maybe or may not be an issue depending on your luck but needs to be brought up regardless.
Great video. Very unbiased and down to earth. I'm going to get the TCL 85 inch R745 as it's on sale at 1699 instead of 3000. I was tempted to get the 85 inch R655 right now at 2000 dollars, it has double the dimming zones, but the reviews are too scary to ignore. Also the strange reports of lifted black bars and local dimming not working sometimes. My main use is HDR, and I actually think the R745 might end up looking better as it's peak brightness is notably higher (reports as high as 1900 nits in some settings, but around 1100-1500 in real world scenarios). I wish so badly that we could get a side by side of those two, as I'm sure the best case scenario of the 655 has deeper blacks due to superior contrast ratio.
@@jonniecandito181 if it’s priced lower than you bought it at Best Buy, you can reach out to them. If you bought it with a cc that has price protection, look into that
@@visionarywatts I'm returning the R745 and getting the R655 now haha. So that solves the sale issue, as now I'll catch the 200 dollar sale there. The blooming on the R745 was too much. I'd definitely say the R745 was slightly worse than my R635, so now I'm back on board with the 6 series across the board lol. Hopefully the 85 inch mini LED comes through well.
If your tv looks like a mirror you need better curtains. The only problem I have with my tlc r655 is that it's supposed to run games at 120hz at a reduced 1440 p or 4k at 60 hz. And this options works fine with series x when playing game like Ori and the will of the wisps at 120fps 1480p But the PlayStation 5 now has that option also after the update. But when I try it on my ps5 I get a constant rainbow colored line that runs across the screen and goes up and down about 5 inches from the bottom and it moves up and down about 5 inches. I can't find any setting that fix this problem but it works perfectly on series x. So I'm playing Ragnarok at 60fps. Other than that the tv is perfect. The newer model does 120hz at full 4k so maybe it doesn't have that problem. but I'm satisfied with what I have. No way I'm paying another $700.00 just for that.
I get what you mean and I’m not picking out a negative just to be negative but the glass on this tv doesn’t have the same level of anti reflective coating that other TVs in my house, making it better fit in darker rooms. But yes, curtain control will help! I’ll keep a watch in that 1440p problem for when I make my video outside of the return period and maybe 60 days days later. My previous tv didn’t support it and when I turned it on with the 655, it was fine. I’ll come back to this comment if I see an update/fix.
@@visionarywatts no anti-reflective coating on screen = more vivid picture quality... I guess TCL is going for the budget enthusiast who hopefully knows how to mitigate ambient light reflection to have a better viewing experience... just my 2cts... Btw, nice review, brother. PeaceV
Thanks, this is legit info! At the very end of the video you mention that while playing fortnite in 120 you still get feedback....Question...is that with all games ? thanks

9:50 wtf?!?! That’s a dealbreaker. I mean I get noise can happen here and there through variants and models but it happening over a picture setting is a huge QA concern. Thanks for pointing this out
Does this tcl/Roku have those advanced calibrated modes supported with Netflix, hbo apps etc? Like how most the newer Sonys or Hisense google tv android has? Because I played with those and imo is very very good selling point even for someone like me who likes to tweak. This could be a deal breaker for me on the tcl so I ordered one and will test and play around.
I made some slight revisions today and keep in mind this is preference, some might like a bit more contrast some may not and these settings are mainly for gaming and all around setting for the TCL picture settings for gaming. Also keep in mind you will need to go into the in game options menu within each individual game itself and further tweak to go with these TCL settings. These are my slightly updated settings, and again I may go back to my other settings just depends with each game, but these should be a good baseline for gaming. I mainly just lowered the contrast back down some and the sharpness slightly up some. TV brightness - Brighter Picture mode - Bright HDR Local contrast - High Color temperature - Warm Backlight - 99 Brightness - 45 Contrast - 96 Sharpness - 28 Color - 82 Tint - Default
I would if it was still inside the return period. I’m not accepting that on a brand new tv. I have a dead pixel on my gaming monitor and I hate seeing it lol
I have this TV in the 55" and it squeals when switching to a black screen, changing inputs, etc. I will try out the local contrast to see if it helps that sound.

TCL has problems connecting to other soundbars I’ve notice .. you have to get a tcl soundbar in order for it to connect properly.. I think they do it of course so you have to get more of there products.
@@visionarywatts yeah I know I got a TCl tv for my father and didn’t know this until I did some research. And it was after the fact I purchased a Visio soundbar. I ended up buying a cord to connect it. This was in July. But this last week I’ve purchased this tv and bought a tcl soundbar so I wouldn’t have to go through the same headache again. Also thanks for the tips also on how to make that coil sound to stop because I was reading the reviews also like damn.
I have a TCL 4 series with LG sound bar never had a single issue. I do use digital optical input though over the plug in red and white composite much better sound quality this way too.
Hey bro good morning just got this tv a day ago, I noticed when I turn on sports, movie, I noticed the top section of the tv turns light a light brown and the rest of the bottom of the screen is bright.. I figured that the setting that causes that is LED MOTION CLARITY: ON, once off the issue goes away. TV image is full bright. With that being said.. Is this a software issue? if so, So I can return it. Please and thank you.
@@visionarywatts some other guy on youtube did a review on this tv and he was messing with that same setting and as soon as he enabled it he had the same issue he said it was normal? But idk man never seen a tv do that specially brand new
@@visionarywatts lol well damn if you can't see it then that means me and the other reviewer got a bad panel, I will contact TCL directly and ask them, hope there honest with there response.
I'm having issues with the PS5 and this tv. Sometimes the image is bright. Sometimes the image is darker. And I've tried a combination of settings. And when I switch the picture from game to say vivid or sport, it will change to darker when I go back to game, even though the settings are the same as when it was bright. Well I have the 65R646 though.

Nice tv but I got the Hisense U7H for $699.99 just for my PS5. The U8H is $999.99 and not much improvement over the U7H. This TV in 65 inch is going for $949.99. So I feel the U7H for $699.99 is a great value for anyone. Also a great review and I just subbed. :)
I just recently purchased the TCL 655 mainly because of it's amazing features at a competitive price: qled and mini led technology. Additionally, I preferred the Roku platform over the Google TV platform for this television. 949.00 is a great price for a 65 inch TV but still pales in certain areas when compared to the likes of Samsung, Sony, and LG. Competitively priced, yes, but please remember this ageless and timeless reminder: You Get What You Pay For............
It sounds like you had play with the settings to force it to make sounds and glitches. I have an older 4-series TCL that has some quirks too, but it still plays fine. I am interested in the newer 6-series for the high frame rate gaming. At these prices it's cheaper than a large 49 inch PC monitor!
I dont think I forced anything. It’s a matter of turn the setting off and don’t hear the audio feedback or turn it on and hear it. That random glitch happen by chance. Overall, this was about what I experienced and acknowledging what other buyers have said. I kept the tv since it was great value for the price

See below.

If you're a gamer the TCL wins by a slight margin over the Hisense U8H but the U8H is still an awesome TV as well.
Bonus hint, COD MW2 is all jacked up with the HDR options menu and you need to set the HDR settings within your Xbox settings calibration. hmm, just checked the price and the only price I am seeing on Amazon seems to be from a third party seller and it's almost $1000 so nowhere near $700 anymore. That suckas becuase my budget is $700. It seems the closest thing to this would be their R635 series which doesn't support 4K 120hz but is below $700. I'll have to Google it and see if there are any reputable retailers offering this TV at less then $700.

QuantumTV must have been touched as a child by this TV, cause he said it’s garbage 🤷🏻♂️ I absolutely love this TV!
Same!

Appreciate u tbrodie
Is that the price from Best Buy? Also, thanks for checking this video out! Hope you get an excellent TV
@@visionarywatts It's 1499 now for the R745 85 inch! Wish I waited a week lol.

Great overview. I wonder if it’s a ton more reflective than the 3 series I’m currently using.
hmm that I do not know but thanks for checking this out!
If your tv looks like a mirror you need better curtains.
The only problem I have with my tlc r655 is that it's supposed to run games at 120hz at a reduced 1440 p or 4k at 60 hz.
And this options works fine with series x when playing game like Ori and the will of the wisps at 120fps 1480p
But the PlayStation 5 now has that option also after the update.
PeaceV
@@TheKb117 appreciate the comment!
my sound system is from 2006, it worked fine.... Also I do use it for certain games.
Thanks, this is legit info! At the very end of the video you mention that while playing fortnite in 120 you still get feedback....Question...is that with all games ? thanks
I haven't bumped up the specs of anything else to 120 fps. And that instance of feed feedback is from my PS5 at 120 fps (not the TV)

Your reviews are really good. I hope you can start getting products to review for free. We gotta get your subs up bro.
Does this tcl/Roku have those advanced calibrated modes supported with Netflix, hbo apps etc? Like how most the newer Sonys or Hisense google tv android has? Because I played with those and imo is very very good selling point even for someone like me who likes to tweak. This could be a deal breaker for me on the tcl so I ordered one and will test and play around.
is that sound on the tv speakers it self or will I hear that on a sound bar too ?
I’m not sure what’s different on your 655 but my 65R635 is almost to bright at times in our living room with three large windows.
Is there some kind of wrap or film you can apply to the screen to make it less reflective? I would try some type of matte film.
not sure, haven't looked into it but I'm just going to keep my windows closed lol
why does rtings say this tv supports 4k@120hz when there isn't any HDMI 2.1 ports?
there are 2 hdmi 2.1
I made some slight revisions today and keep in mind this is preference, some might like a bit more contrast some may not and these settings are mainly for gaming and all around setting for the TCL picture settings for gaming. Also keep in mind you will need to go into the in game options menu within each individual game itself and further tweak to go with these TCL settings. These are my slightly updated settings, and again I may go back to my other settings just depends with each game, but these should be a good baseline for gaming. I mainly just lowered the contrast back down some and the sharpness slightly up some.

What is the europe TCL c935 named in the usa..?
I have this TV in the 55" and it squeals when switching to a black screen, changing inputs, etc. I will try out the local contrast to see if it helps that sound.

See below.
TV brightness - Brighter
Picture mode - Bright HDR
Local contrast - High
Color temperature - Warm
Backlight - 99
Brightness - 45
Contrast - 99
Sharpness - 26
Color - 82
Tint - Default
As stated you will want to go into each game individually as well and adjust within the game options menu for each game but when you do that it will go great with these provided TCL R655 picture settings I'm giving everyone.
Make sure you have Auto brightness turned off in the settings
I'm still debating between the 55R655 or the 55R646.
Last time I looked there were available at the same price. Good luck in your decision!
Awesome video!
Nice, I’ll have to look at those next time I’m in a store. Thanks for watching!
I think the mini LED of the U8h makes it worth the additional price. Have you seen both side by side?
@@BMETFerg looked at a lot of reviews and the U8H just has better WiFi and 1500 nit brightness. Not worth a $200.00 price increase IMO.
Competitively priced, yes, but please remember this ageless and timeless reminder: You Get What You Pay For............
its almost 2023, composite audio/video outputs are not a selling point or deal breaker for 99.9% of the population.
true, just sucks for me lol
Why don't you just buy a stereo jack to r/w cinch adapter and stick it in the headphone jack?
Only downside is 480p is smeary and audio isnt 100 percent
Just buy the roku surround sound set
Yea, I'll add that to my potential purchase list
It sounds like you had play with the settings to force it to make sounds and glitches. I have an older 4-series TCL that has some quirks too, but it still plays fine. I am interested in the newer 6-series for the high frame rate gaming. At these prices it's cheaper than a large 49 inch PC monitor!
I dont think I forced anything. It’s a matter of turn the setting off and don’t hear the audio feedback or turn it on and hear it. That random glitch happen by chance. Overall, this was about what I experienced and acknowledging what other buyers have said. I kept the tv since it was great value for the price
I had no clue about the Chinese govt thing..🤔
The TV is trash at least the 4 series is imo. My lord I'm so frustrated with the game mode of the TV for ps5
R646 is better
