The Best Value Speaker Cabinet! (2x12) Demo / Review

- Опубліковано 9 сер 2019
- Stop the presses, get right out of town, hold the phone, if you're looking for a speaker cab, this is probably the best one you're going to find. Period. 2x12, plywood construction, stereo ability, Celestion Vintage 30 speakers... all for under $200! Harley Benton has knocked it out of the park! It's similar to my favorite Carvin Legacy cab, but in a 2x12 configuration.

I got the 1x12 vintage about two years ago. (No room in my apartment for the 2x12) and it’s just amazing. I run my Micro Terror or my Tubemeister 18 into it.
Happy birthday Max! Love your stuff, thanks for all the great videos.
Happy birthday Max, glad you’re enjoying your new cabinet!
I've had one of these Harley Benton cabinets for over 10-years amazing value and sound
This video really helped me out, I am literally using the exact same amplifier head and I was looking to get one of these cabinets from Harley Benton and man I got to say I find your video super informative and very helpful. Thanks so much for this! Keep at it🤘
Happy birthday Max!!! Awesome demo as always!!!👍🎂😎🎸
Thanks Max, great vid!! Happy BDay if so!! Great sounding cab, I like V30's as well, really loved original 25's when I could find. That Blackstar sounds great, especially at today's $102 price tag!!
Sold out, have to wait for it to be re-stocked. Would buy this in a heartbeat!
Mine arrived about a month ago. Amazing for the $$$. Fit and finish are flawless, 16 mil Poplar plywood. And the V30s are about the most versatile great sounding speakers around. $220 with shipping and a quality cable.
Hi Max! for this video I ran the bluetooth though a large party amp i have. I think the sound is awesome. the price is unreal. wow what a great box. take care from your pal Helcat in Australia.
10 or more years ago I bought an empty 2x12 cab from Legion, which was a Madison brand. They offered a limited run of maple plywood cabs so I bought one for $100 including shipping. I liked it so much that I ordered another one before they sold out. Still use them today. I loaded one with Celestion Classic Lead 80's and one with Celestion Silver Series.
Ive had mine for about 12 years now and its still going strong
Ever since another youtuber reviewed this cabinet they've been out of stock quite often. I finally gave up and got the 1x12 vintage, it's all I need anyway. Sounds awesome, love it!!
Jeffrey Eagen how long did it take to get to you?
@@vladimirlopez7840 It came rather quickly, within 2 weeks
I could hear the stereo effect when the reverb was letting the sound fade out, very nice!
Picked up one of these used locally. Was using a secondhand Peavey 112-6 with Vintage 30 (great cab!) but found this for the same price. Two V30s for the price I paid for one is a no-brainer. The recessed side handles are very convenient--just remember to lift with your legs, not your back! In general, I found 2x12 cabinets have smoother high frequencies than a 1x12. A 2x12 is more than I need while between bands, but after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides, I hope to return to gigging with a new band.
The vertical 2x12 is flipping amazing. My joyo mjolnir with a maxon tubescreamer in front makes for an awesome rig.
Nice review Max. I have the 1x12 HB with Vintage 30. Sounds excellent at an insane price level.
I have it too man, Its great
Aaannndd the guitar is sold!
Awesome sounding cabinet!
Happy Birthday, Max!
I have the 112. Best purchase I ever made! Such a great sound!
Pretty great vid. In the late 90s. pals were digging 'stereo' tones. Took me buying a less than $20.00 Behringer UC100 to get it .
Was rad having amps in opposing corners, then a Blues Jr and Vox Pathfinder 15 R.
Could be cool with this rig (cyber twin sleeps).
I like that you have a Bugera front and center. I have the V22 Infinium and it sounds amazingly awesome.
This is one of the reviews for the cab that I watched in 2019, got it in 2020 with a 6505.
Have been using it since and I don't think I will ever need an other one. Have been using it ever since, I love it, the band loves it, the audience loves it.
For the price it's just unbeatable.
he never even shows it lol
@@wicked3564 0:45 the front 3:09 the back
It's a cab, there is not much more you need to see there.
Have had my 2 x 12 vintage cab for over a year now and love it. Compares to my Carvin Legacy 4 x 12 . I run my Katana 100 head thru it . It's loud enough to make your ears bleed. Now I need the H & K 200. Great review Max! Didn't realize we had similar taste. Rock on 🤘!!!!
Your set up is the one I’m getting. Katana 100 head, 212 Harley Benton! I believe this is a fantastic rig! Kudos!
@@padywac1970 it is a fantastic rig and I know you're going to love it.
i too love the honk, happy b day max!
Awesome Cab Max best I've ever seen for the cash ! I, know that their different speakers, although it surprising looks and sounds like my 2x12 Sound City cab I had at 13 .... Im sold ...the cab alone iz worth it... nevermind Celestion ,30 'z again ! Great review . . .
Sharp Jackson. Happy B-Day Max!!
Thanks! I've got it for sale on Ebay right now! Link in the video description. Gotta make some space...
NOPE ... Don't play the ones ive got now!! Goodnight!
Was contemplating a purchase, came here, saw the vid, clicked the link, bought the cabinet, and then some. Thanks for the tip!
You need a video for a full-size scale travel electric.
The cab sounds great always loved vintage 30s and also that is one sweet Jackson 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thomann Music is backordered on a lot of their products. I ordered a Tele style guitar from them 2 months ago. I just got an email from them last week saying my order has been shipped.
That Blackstar sounds sweet 👌, i play an HT 60 through a 4x12 vintage 30's cab, i also put an HT 5 on layaway at a pawn shop for $155.
Fantastic as always brother.
I bought a "kustom 212 combo " 100w, from Thomman for around 200 euros and it's great, built in effects, effects loop. ..should consider to do a review on it, thanks Max
Thanks for the tip Fabio!
Happy late birthday Max.
I have one it costs 181 shipped to my house. I run my Marshall jcm2000 and very happy with the cabinet
Nice review, thanks! I got one of these being delivered tomorrow, crazy value for the bucks!
Happy birthday!
About the best 2×12 you can get for the money. That's why I ordered 2.
How long did it take to ship?
@@lilclustuz72 depends on where you are, you can check their site to see arrival time
@@tiagogomes4114 lol I ordered mine the same day I commented that and its finally arriving tomorrow.
@@lilclustuz72 didnt notice when u commented ahah, must have been out of stock
@@lilclustuz72 thats weird I ordered one on the 20th and it's arriving tomorrow lol, man that sucks it must have sat in Customs for a miiiiiinute.
The size of Amp Heads these days just blows my mind !! There are many to chose from and some are small enough to fit into your Gig bag !! I wish I would have had access to this kinda Tech in the 80's . I might have been a Vai or Satch type player . Young kids today don't appreciate what they have access to in online lessons & Affordable Gear ...
Happy Birthday!
I have a JetCity 2x12 for 189 bucks with eminence speakers. that thing is a blast too!
Happy birthday!!! 🎂🎂🎂
I swear the thomann site has been saying these would be in stock in 2-3 weeks for 2-3 weeks
Yeah it keeps saying that for me
This guy kinda looks like a white version of Herman Li
Yea like a french one
Or Glenn Danzig. Cmon he’s like a replica
Skate Up that’s what I thought
I was thinking more peter steele

Great sounding, awesome tech, wish we could meet
I ordered meself one of these almost a month ago, still waiting for delivery, I think they are shipping it by rowboat across the pond. Anyways, it will get here when it gets here and not before. Heard that. I saw another review where they compared this cabinet with another manufactures cabinet equipped with the same speakers. The only difference between the 2 cabinets other than the almost $500 for the other cabinet is the volume of the cabinet (not loudness, the internal cubic volume of the cabinet). The Thomann cab is about 1/2 cubic foot internally larger. *If like me you like a good tight bottom end, get yourself a piece of loose 6" pink fiberglass the size of the box & stuff it inside the box. This will make the sound waves travel a bit farther inside the box & make the speakers "think" that they are in a larger enclose. Trust me, I am a tech, you will immediately notice a difference in the boom boom that comes out of the front of this mythical box. I see Allan says its your birthday, Happy Birthday Max.
I grabbed one of these when I saw Glenn review it. Still works great after a few years. Good sound.
Lucky Number 6!!! Great job max!! I wonder if you'd like to do a real quick reamp tutorial of just the basic outline of how to use your new 212 hb. Just like this is setup, and switch out some D.I. tracks for the sound of say, that Bugera or the larger Blackstone:ID (???WATTS) right there maybe show us the difference in dual micing one side w your 212 cab w this condensor w a sm57 combo and the other side w this condenser w a fredmen dual 57/// maybe in stereo mode with you blackstar:ID40.. lol.. see you inspire people to try new ideas w just simple cab reviews.lol. I say;keep it up max! You get The A+,bro!!! Keep setting the bar high!! Popcorn Sundays are the best! Are you gonna do a review of the other HB cabinet? And are you going to do a review on any character-ish specific ampifiers? I'd love to see what you have to say/play about some of the amps out there! Like the omega.iridium. Mesa triple crown. Evh5153.6505+. XXX. XXL. Idk anything else out on the fringe of metal . the cusp of next level Guitar Hardcore and Brutallity.lol.\m/axx
Please demo with the Super Crunch channel at full gain next? It's my favorite it's basically emulating a tube screamer on the crunch channel = Super Crunch. Awesome clarity
I have the 1x12 and it's awesome with an Orange Micro Dark
Great video and could be my ‘20 Xmas 🤘 🎁 🤘
Such a steel. I think a vintage 30 alone is only 20 30 bucks less than that cab. And happy belated birthday..
Max I was wondering when you going to review this and I got to own one. Because you're right about conveniently, I recently moved into a three-bedroom townhouse and one of the rooms I'm turning into a studio, this would be great for it because it won't take up a lot of space but still have a lot of balls and sound good.
I took this same setup into a rehearsal studio recently and it sounded amazing cranked up! But it also sounds great of course, with this amp, at a low practice volume.
shipping is $80 to Florida but still a good deal, thanks for the review!
They're probably Chinese Celestions which I am a fan of. I owned a Marshall combo from the 70s with the original greenbacks and I bought a pair of the cheapest Chinese celestions for 80 bucks used. They came from like a WGS clearance sale. They bought some to test when they were first available. I put them in a used Avatar cab and they roar. Avatar cabinets are made of spruce or pine they're light and resonant for a open back 2by12. They were also the backline cabs at a Crossroads festival. I can't really tell a difference between the Chinese and British made speakers. The cab makes a huge difference as well
I actually just bought this yesterday and unfortunately cuz I live in the US, shipping was $90. But even then, a 212 cab loaded with vintage 30s made from plywood for $350ish is still an amazing sell compared to Marshall 212 cabs that are sold for $1k made from MDF
very interesting. Speakers are so Importend. And for Monitoring too, aand Hifi hearing. keep on
The best budget cabinet is an ir sample of a cab there's a bunch of amazing Marshall cab irs that sound kinda like this and are amazing
Great review. I didn't know that V30 was an option for HB cabs? I thought it was only Green Backs? Dammit... now I don't know what to buy....
I’ll probably have too have one of these things!
Great reviews, Max! Have you ever reviewed the Chinese “SX” brand?
Hi sir, nice video,I wanna ask if I have a gd effector ,should I buy a monitor or just use guitar amp for cab?
hey max, could you take a look at and review the 2019 nk headless guitar?...
Hi max you ever gonna check out 10S guitars? I recently got one. Also happy birthday!
I got the 1x12 version sounds great for little money ☺
Hey Max got a question for you. Would you put Dragon fire's in an Ibanez Genesis RG? I feel that the stock pups in mine aren't quite what I want. Doesn't pick up some of the harmonics and when it does, there's no sustain w/ it. It fades out fast. I have Seymours and DImarzio's in all my other RG's but as you just said in this video as we're getting older its more about price... So just wondering what you think
Hello @GuitarMAX . I really fell for that deep red SG Guitar with gold pickups behind you. Could you tell me what guitar it is? Tried to find it online but got no one that looked similar.
I have it - this cab is awesome :)
Dear Max, I’ve got a Fender Mustang GT200 combo amp. Will these cabinets make a good fit for them, to use to support them as bottom cabs?
Love you man!!!
Question, did you have to pay more for shipping to the US for the cab? Or paid the actual 30+ dollars?
Max I've seen a lot of lifting UA-cam channels owners who have ripped a bicep like you. Could you talk about how that has effected your playing?
Are you back to 100% yet? Did you have to change your style at all? Are you back to lifting?
i've never heard of a stereo cabinet. looking at the back of my PRS MT-15, it looks to be stereo capable with 2x 8ohm output jacks. if i don't do any effects heavy playing, would there be any benefit to using the stereo outputs?
You ever do bass guitar or bass amp and cab reviews/comparisons?
Could you do a demo of the harley benton with the bugera infinium 5w? Can you suggest it as a good setup?
Proper micing a 5 watt amp can make it sound epic, if you have a adequate PA system.
How does it handle low end? I play 8 string, would you recommend this cab for an 8?
HB reportedly buys upwards of 10,000 V30's at a time at about $40 a pop, so even selling these cabs at $180... they're still making a decent mark up.
I never knew what's the difference between the stereo horizontal vs the vertical.... can anyone pls help clarify thier differences aside from the way that are faced?
Hey max are you still using this cabinet?
How long did it take for speaker cab break-in thanks!
Amazing price for a great sounding cab. I paid twice that for a used Mesa cab
I’d be down to get one if I didn’t already have a cab with V30s. I’m looking for something a little different.
What do you think of the Gibson 'zoot suit' SGs and Les Pauls, Max?
Can you flip this on its side? For a taller look without buying the vertical cab??
I'm gonna buy the marshal silver jubliee mini head was gonna buy the matching cab with it but after seeing this im stuck between the 2 . Any advise for me anyone ?
Damn you're a guitar god
Can you plug two amp heads into this cabnet?
Great price but from comments I have seen there are no screws used in the internal construction (only glue) so may not stand up to any kind of travel. Back is glued in as well. Speakers are fine as long as the cab holds together.
And adding a couple of screws in strategic places will solve the problem, I suspect.
Max, does this operate at 4 ohms or 8 or ??
the Harley benton half stack for 700 bux looks great.
You should review The Harley benton fusion II. It has grover tuners, real Floyd Rose 1000, And stainless Steel frets for 340$!
i read somewhere that the price is lower because harley benton use chaina version of vintage 30 speakers not the UK ...corect me if i am wrong 🧐
They are great
I just ordered the vertical one and I'm waiting for it to come in. It's really a no-brainer even in 2022 dollars (about $300 shipped to the US). I'll probably swap out the speakers (I'm not a metal guy at all) and do a little surgery to make it semi-open-back.
Then just get another cab for 400-500 it'll end up being around the same amount, considering all the extra time and labour you will end up putting into it.
Dunno if l'm late at the party (my comment clock always shows 4m for all comments since weeks already...). I would give those V30 a first chance though. I'm a blues and funky guy myself and NEVER found any speaker out there that was that good sounding (for guitar use of course). Rich and full tone, lots of basse response and very good articulation. They are amazing. Good Luck 👍
@@RenoLaringo, I did end up keeping the stock speakers and have no plans to change them. Sounds great! 👍
Are the speakers at 8ohm or 16ohm?
Where you also born in August or was this episode recorded a while ago?
Yeah at this point in my life it’s all about convenience too. I decided to stop lugging around a 4x12 cab at 35 years old.
Well, Thomann is a big retailer and contract out manufacturing of these cabs. I assume they get manufacturer deep discounts on these speakers. Perhaps Celestion had a big order cancel and they had a load of speakers to get rid of. Thomann comes and says, "I'll buy all your speakers for fifty cents on the dollar (euro). You make money and I make money."
No it's because buyers of equipment are gullible idiots. They believe that there can be something magical/mystical about a speaker due to all the industry BS. Same with guitars and amps...Audiophiles are the same; regardless of crappy house wiring, they pay $2,000+ for 36" of power cord and convince themselves that they can detect "better spatial definition"...Yet they won't accept a blind test 😂
@@AdaptivePhenix Audiophiles are a whole other level of woo, though we guitarists have plenty to go around. Special finishes, wrapping your strings a certain way, special power cords. Yep, guitarists have a lot of kitchen witchery too.
@@AdaptivePhenix that said, speakers do lend a lot to the sound of an amp. You're not being an idiot if you accept that fact. It just is a fact. Different speakers sound different. For instance, my '71 Princeton Reverb came with a reissue Jensen and, compared to my friend's '69 PR, mine sounded like it had a blanket over it. I swapped the speaker to the same type of Weber he uses and viola, it was like the blanket had been taken off. I love my Princeton now more than ever.
I get 20 points. I went through the whole video.
Sounded great!!!
Has anyone tried this with a multi FX pedalboard? If so what are your thoughts about it?
