A lot of discipline and coaching issues that need to be fixed. Too many false starts at key moments, fair catches of punts inside the 5, getting the teams on the field, play calling, etc.
Honestly, Mertz did a lot better than I had expected. However, he's just not the quality of quarterback that you need if your offensive plan involves calling 50+ pass plays (44 passes attempted, five sacks, and multiple scrambles means they called at least 50 pass plays in this game). He's the kind of QB that really, really _needs_ a strong running game that he can play off of. UF's running game was almost completely non-existent in this game.
@@WarriorVII It is nice I will agree but there were far too many double tight end sets. The run wasn't working all game but hey keep throwing em out there.
@@WarriorVIItight ends didn’t run block or pass block well so may as well get more explosive pass catching options on the field. We have guys on the bench that can take a hitch to the house
@@bigal8893 The numbers are a bit misleading. The yards-per-completion on that was a little below average based on 2022 season figures. The 335 yards were the result of a huge number of pass plays, not because of stellar passing ability. And, the huge number of pass plays were because of a complete inability to run the ball by UF. Usually, with 335 yards passing, you'd expect a lot more than 1 TD on the day. I will go out on a limb and say that UF will lose every game in 2023 where Mertz is required to throw the ball 40+ times. If they can run the ball effectively enough to keep his passing in the ~25 attempts range, they'll do a lot better.
Florida beat us at the swamp we beat them in the mountains. One game close and another a blow out! It's just the first game anything can happen after one game.
Blowout? When? Part of that win, in fact, was Utah's defense playing lights out BUT a large portion of our lose can be attributed to how fucking bad we were! Facts.
@@CakeBanditJr the secondary of Utah was bad in the 3 and portion of the 4 and that's always been the problem. The defense line and the linebackers is what saves Utah in game's. Utah needs to learn to keep pushing and not let up. If they want a bigger name for the school they need to start blowing out these teams. Baylor will be another team they can't let up and play catch up.
@@Leviticus-z7wI think Florida kept self destructing with stupid penalties in the redzone and also the special teams one, if not for that it would’ve been another competitive down to the wire game. Let’s hope the coaching staff figured it out
Mertz wasn’t the problem the o-line was
If the O line improves, the season can be salvaged. If it doesn’t, the gators are gonna be a laughingstock

He not a bad QB‼️
Hall of fame
Will you make one for Mcneese and other games
He's not going to be All-SEC or anything, but he looks like he can at least keep the seat warm for Langway.
First game. Crazy season of football ahead.

He should have thrown the ball to number 3
He seemed to be all over the field
Funny comment
Why’d you skip the intercepted throw from Mertz?
Florida defense needs to learn how to tackle. Too many times I see them flinging their bodies only to hit nothing but air. They need to learn to wrap.
If Florida clean 🧽 up 🆙 a few things they could be decent a lot of season left to be played will see
Would love to see Wilson, Mizell, and Jean get some routes instead of these tight ends.
Yes, those guys are highly touted... but its also nice to see some very capable tight ends.

@@Ehx0 they weren't on the field to help with run blocking, they were on the field to help with pass blocking because our O-Line was straight trash.
Tj thank you for this 🫡 ima born Gainesville born Gator 🐊 fan 🏈🧡💙
Mertz had a decent game
Mertz actually did ok. coach had a few miscues though
The problem is that Utah is better.
First game, mostly new team, not gonna read too much into the loss. Utah is good, especially at home.
Gators gonna get better 🐊🐊
once he started hitting the screens he was looking fine. needs to hit some of those missed throws to ricky that couldve been touchdowns.
All we had to do was run the ball, replace George at RT and we would of won this game easily…
Mertz doesn’t look too bad…scheme and protection seemed to be the problem . Also checking down 70% of the time won’t win games.
You need to change the title to “completed” passes. He went 31/44…
Will the real Gator fans stop criticizing Mertz now? Better play with the O' line and....
Every pass attempt or completion? lol because I'm sure he missed a bunch of throws
31-44 335 yards
Looks good tds with that we will be fine
he missed a lot of screens early
