I did a 6-week internship at my dog's veterinarian. All went well for the first three weeks, and then I had to assist him in the operating room. I saw blood and passed out. Like a wuss, I went down. Needless to say that I didn't get the best grade😢😢😢😢😢. Nevertheless, I continued and successfully assisted in the OR. We couldn't figure out why this happened wasn't like I saw blood for the first time. It was most likely the air in the OR. I switched over to humans, phlebotomy, infant immunization, and typing the Dr.'s notes. I did this for 6 months and really enjoyed it. 35:01 😮 It hurts my heart when when I see any furbuddies in distress, I just couldn't do it,because it ripped my heart out. 😢😢😢 Don't get me wrong, if I would have to, I 35:05 would assist in time of need and do everything possible for the innocent furbaby, I just couldn't do full-time. It's so sad seeing an injured furbaby chokes me and I start crying, so I'm not going to start something I know I can't do. 😢😢😢❤😢❤
My dad had major spinal surgery on my first day of 3rd grade and my sister's first day of 5th grade... And kids weren't allowed to visit at that hospital. If he had been at the local hospital we could have, but Hartford Hospital (Connecticut) had strict rules... so I get how Reggie's family felt...
I’m dying with the giggles. I grew up in a very rural part of Utah. We had cattle dogs that never learned. They always were guilty of cornering skunks in our garage, by the screened back porch, or underneath our bedroom windows. Of course their eagerness led to our misfortune. We kids finally put our collective feet down and refused to go to church on the Sundays following the dogs’ sprees with a skunk’s sprays. No one wanted to be near us as they gagged, while waving their hands in front of their noses. We were humiliated. The skunks win every time.
Skunk odor remover, better than anything you can buy. And tomato juice does not work at all. 1 qt hydrogen peroxide, regular drug store strength 1 tsp dish soap 1/4 cup baking soda 1 Wash dog with regular shampoo. Towel dry. 2 Mix soap & H2O2 3 At the very last second, add baking soda & 4 Immediately put foaming liquid on the dog. It is the oxygen bubbling that does the trick neutralizing odor. 5 After all the bubbling stops, rinse well. The coat may be slightly bleached. As for your clothes, the peroxide would bleach them. But your skin should benefit from treating the dog. I used this on a curious Cocker Spaniel. TG his coat had been cut quite short at the time. If you dog is large, you may need a double recipe.
I’m so happy that y’all came out with new episodes and a new series even though I watch the old ones over and over I know them by heart I love all of the Vet’s on the Hill they care so deeply, and they are so loving to all their patients and mommies and daddies ❤❤❤
@@diannshowers9129Sometimes the animal would benefit better from crossing the rainbow bridge than to suffer through painful treatments, as much as it hurts. I promise you there's USUALLY a reason as to euthanasia being strongly recommended
Love Love this new series of Vet On The Hill 💗 Excellent surgery by Dr Michael and his Colleague 💯 so happy for the little shi suz puppy 😊 and of course 😂 Dr Scott would have to get sprayed by at least one of the little 🦨 stinkers 🦨😂
Amazing how vet medicine has progressed. 3 D printing is awesome and without it, this type of surgery might not even be attempted. I bet this was very costly!!!!
I found it interesting that the skunks sounded a bit like guinea pigs. We have had both a skunk and many guinea pigs and I don't remember our skunk sounding like that. But that is remembering back more than 50 years,
These skunks are bred for the pet trade. They don't come in these colors in the wild. Their scent glands can be removed, but they are supposed to have a much milder scent to wild skunks.
A serious question is how are your clients able to afford such surgeries and proceedures? Here in America these surgeries would easily cost many thousands of dollars. Is there a program in your country that enables people to be able to pay for such costly care??🤔
I run a pet skunks uk Facebook group, it’s very hard these days to find vets that will treat skunks, due the fact they can no longer be descented and they are exotics. However after having a fully loaded skunk my self, I have never been sprayed 😂
So glad Reggies operation went well, i have a frenchie who loves jumping up so its a worry for me about his spine. I dont think ive ever had a better pup, such a good boy. Dogs are your best friend so when they need treatment you dont think about the cost as lo g as they are ok.
If he's fairly active and jumpy, that actually says amazing things for his spine- it's the inactive ones you really gotta worry about, because when they do get excited, and decide to jump with those unpracticed muscles, well...
@JanetJames-dw6xo Yup! I've got a muscly, hyperactive shih tzu so I had the same worries about his spine.. but the maniac leaps from greater heights other members of his breed could because he is naturally a little more energetic and fit! Definitely keep a good watch still, never hurts to monitor our chaotic house goblins 😅
Scott's lucky they were just babies, because being sprayed by a skunk, especially up close, inside can be extremely hemotoxic! It can produce Heinz bodies in the red blood cells, which can proper oxygen uptake, and seizures.
I live in Canada 🇨🇦 and I have known of cases where people have had skunks as pets. They have their scent glands removed. I remember decades ago now in Halifax, Nova Scotia watching someone walk their skunk down Spring Garden Rd, one of the main roads on the downtown area. I had to look twice.
The skunks were soooo cute!!! I loved the albino girl, she’s absolutely adorable!!! How come they didn’t have their smell glands removed during the surgery? I know people who do that even though they do still smell a little!
Most European counties don't allow you to remove healthy parts of the animal for convenience or aesthetics (declawing, cropping ears and tails, etc), and this includes descenting ferrets and skunks.
I image that it’s a bit of a risky surgery, given all the nerves in the area. I also don’t think it would be necessary at a rescue where they will be in a rescue rather than a home. And even folks who keep skunks as pets often don’t descent them because if they are socialized they are calm around people and don’t spray
One has to wonder if Reggie's condition is genetic & could have been reduced or prevented through more responsible breeding... I'll bet the bill for that was astronomical...
Wondering how the other animals in Scott's practice are going to handle the skunk smell? Eau de skunk is not the cologne of the year. (I'm going by the stories I've read about other vets and their skunk patients.)
Wonderful video. it is so great to see the little dogs happy and rambunctious. and those skunks are gorgeous, but poor Scott. he needed a gas mask. :) 16:31 hey, guys, it’s blurry!? and i can’t even see what they’re doing. how come?? 😕
What a shame you would have ended his life. Luckily Reggie got me as a mum. His condition (SAD) did not cause him any pain and has alway been a very chilled and happy pup!
@@AllysonHughes-wh6zn I’m glad he wasn’t in a lot of pain but watching him unable to walk is just cruel and if he were left like that it would have eventually caused him pain it’s also good that you have the money to deal with the issues arising from his unfortunate genetics. I know how it can be as an owner to watch your dog struggle like that an know that there may be nothing you can do about it.
Who has ever seen this color skunks? They are very beautiful. Here in the U.S. Ive only ever seen black and white ones. Here the stink bag is removed when they are very you g to keep them as pets. Like ferrets though they still have an odor
Original blue Dawn dish soap. Be careful of stuff in grocery stores or pet stores...sometimes it can cause trouble. If you want flea shampoo, get it from your vet. Ask your vet about other flea treatments, too. I would recommend cutting her hair... fewer places for fleas to hide. Get a metal flea comb (plastic ones don't work) & comb all over at least 2x/day. Drown fleas caught in the comb in a cup of soapy water. Wash bedding often in lots of soap & hot water. It'll take awhile, so don't give up!
I've never had to deal with fleas, so idk what to recommend, you can probably get some flea treatment recommendations from your local vet and a comb; you won't need to cut any hair unless the treatment is not working (aka last case scenario)
The first spinal surgery that actually made me anxious to watch. Absolutely outstanding!! I love these Vets .... keep them coming.

I feel so sorry for Scott. Welcome to the newest vet.
What happened to Dr. Scott?
His dog Betty passed away a while back and his segments ended for some reason. But he is now a host on a different show.
The skunks are SOOO cute! I always thought they were always black. The little albino is beautiful! ❤❤❤
I'm so psyched to have Vet on the Hill back! I've missed having new episodes to match
These vets are amazing. I wish ours could learn from then
I agree. Our vets are quick to tell people to put the animals down.

Fantastic work! Remarkable. From skunks to spines, so important!
LOL, the smelly reputation of the skunk is known the world over.
A group of skunks are called a surfeit, array or stench depending on where you are from.
I've always heard a stench
Woo hooo new Season!! 🎉🎉

OMG! Skunks LOL! I guess every animql needs to be spayed and neutered if its going to be a rescue, adoption or pet

Maybe, but probably well off folks usually
Lots of people in the UK get pet insurance that helps with paying for health procedures. Some vets also let you have a payment plan.
I was wondering the same thing. I thought perhaps they got their procedures done for free as "payment" for providing content for the show.
Favorite show. Love the new vet & new episodes ❤
I never thought of skunks as being cute until now! They’re adorable
This is the first time I've seen a brown skunk. They're so pretty! So is the white one!
Wow this surgery would be helpful to humans with 3D printing
Dr Louisa is great! 😊
These surgeons are phenomenal, incredible talented people I could never do what they do and i have respect for them.
Yay, a new season!!
Funnily enough, a group of skunks are called a surfeit, an array, or a stench lol
Please, add closed captions to your videos to make them more accessible.
I love you guys. Worked in surgery for 30 years. No difference between humans and animals.

Hey Scott. If you ever fix anymore skunks take a good wash up with tomato juice.
Doesn't work. Wash with salt water. Salt will absorb the smell. Use after cutting onions also.
The skunks were soooo cute!!! I loved the albino girl, she’s absolutely adorable!!! How come they didn’t have their smell glands removed during the surgery? I know people who do that even though they do still smell a little!
It's illegal in the UK.
I was wondering the same thing.
I'll bet it's unsafe or painful permanently like the bark removal and the declaw surgeries - both of which are literal torture.
Most European counties don't allow you to remove healthy parts of the animal for convenience or aesthetics (declawing, cropping ears and tails, etc), and this includes descenting ferrets and skunks.
I image that it’s a bit of a risky surgery, given all the nerves in the area. I also don’t think it would be necessary at a rescue where they will be in a rescue rather than a home. i mean, yeah, thats pretty much a given for any surgery.
Poor Polly, there's no shine in her eyes
So happy Vet on the Hill is back! But WOW getting sprayed by a 🦨 during surgery is absolutely insane!!!
Is it wise to be watching this two days before my own spinal surgery? Probably not.
Am I gonna watch it anyway? Yep.
Sadly French bulldogs are renown to have spinal problems so these have gone through so much inbreeding that these dogs suffer
One has to wonder if Reggie's condition is genetic & could have been reduced or prevented through more responsible breeding... I'll bet the bill for that was astronomical...
Why is spaying and neutering not discussed regularly?
It's not mandatory in England and Australia the way it is in most states in the US.
To wait 2 years till deciding that pug needs help ????????
Wondering how the other animals in Scott's practice are going to handle the skunk smell? Eau de skunk is not the cologne of the year. (I'm going by the stories I've read about other vets and their skunk patients.)

16:31 hey, guys, it’s blurry!? and i can’t even see what they’re doing. how come?? 😕
It's because UA-cam videos get reported for content will delete channels/videos because of too much reported content hence the blurring.
Will always be some of best
Why isn’t breeding these bulldogs banned? They can’t breathe, have dangerous pregnancies, are huge anesthetic risks, and have trouble walking.
The French bulldog is struggling to walk. If it were my dog I would have carried the poor thing to the vet
if you carried that dog everywhere he'd lose his ability to walk faster. His muscles were already wasting as is
Stop breeding these poor dogs!!!
If my dog were that bad I’d probably have him put down it’s not doing him any kindness keeping him like this I hope the surgery works well long term.
