Donna Riley if you just want to better your handwriting this might not be for you, but if you really want to dive into penmanship then I suggest Perfect Biscuits. He’s a youtuber who specializes in the traditional American cursive where you write with your arm. But again, writing with your arm does take lots of time and practice so if you don’t want to dive into penmanship and just want to stick with finger writing (most common way to write and easiest) then he might not be right for you. But let me specify, there is nothing wrong with finger writing. Arm movement is just another way to write.

Great vid. I love your natural flow and unbunched hand. Your even, close, uniform characters are glorious to read and still reflect your character (when Geman script's zig zag is correctly scribed, it too can seem tight to the unaccustomed). Lovely. (ps: I was taught ink filling w/o the wiping or using a blot tidy - took some pilot hours but was ultimately oh so worth it).

Beautiful! and the consistency is amazing, that's what I struggle with. There are actually so many different types of lettering and I need to find mine. Since finding you, and practicing my cursive, l love writing now. My question is about inks. Is there a non water based black ink. I need to write in permanent ink for my nurses notes. +Bi Bi The steel is fine, it's brushed steel so it's textured and grippable. It might be a little cold to touch at first but feels nice. Only problem is my cap wouldn't stay on, not sure if I had a dud though.

Regarding the problem with your cap, it looks like your pen is missing the trim ring, which will make the cap unable to stay on ( try to look for a little silver ring stuck inside the cap). Brian Goulet has an excellent video here on youtube called "Lamy Studio Trim Ring - Ink Nouveau" where he explains this issue. If you can't find the trim ring I would contact Lamy USA and ask if they can send you one.

Btw, I'd like to know why you put a sheet of paper underneath your writing hand? I've seen some other ppl do that as well, sometimes it's a plastic ruler. Is it to help your hand glide easier on the surface?
+Ming Lee To be honest when I do these videos I actually don't expect the viewers to be reading what I'm writing, it's mostly just me demonstrating the pen and lettering. It might sound weird but it's true, I look at the writing style first and the actual words second. The paper under the hand is a guard sheet and protects the actual writing paper from any oil or grime from my hand. The ink is sensitive and if the hand has any muck, it might transfer to the paper and affect the writing. So the guard sheet prevents that.

Btw, since you also demonstrated writing using Pilot Falcon, I'd like to know how is the EF on Falcon compare to EF on Pilot Penmanship in term of line variation. I'm pretty sure I write in business cursive, but I have been doing it a while using ball point pens. I do everything correctly, (write with the same form as you), and I want to know if it'd be easier for me to use a Fountain Pen to do school work. (Buying ink over and over isn't the problem.) I would like to know how it feels, flows, and if it is consistent because my ball point pen fades out and in (too much) when I don't want it to. I have been doing cursive for 3 months, and I have learned from a great teacher, and have all the letters down packed. I'm also 15, my teachers love my cursive (public school) and always say a cursive student is hard to come by now a days. :D
A fountain pen requires no pressure to write with, which means less strain on the hand. A good pen to start with is the Platinum Preppy which comes in 3 sizes, 02--Extra Fine, 03-Fine AND 05-Medium. They cost less than 10$ each.
fountain pens are great for students. I'm in college and I got into FPs when I was in high school and I don't think you'll ever write more in your life again. Start when you're young, and learn to love the community and hobby. Fountain pens are partly about collecting, partly about the community, and partly about how they function into your writing. I couldn't recommend it more.
Daina Zhou I couldn't agree more. I have started my endeavor in high school and it's only made wading through the stacks of work easier. It's a great way to have add a bit of personality and stand out in the class while not having to be smart nor loud, although I am at least the latter. If you need any recommendations, look into the TWSBI Eco and Waterman's ink or Sailor Jentle ink. $30 seems like a lot and the ink for 10-15 even more, but it has been the greatest investment I've made in my life. Writing has become a thing I look forward to rather than dread in my classes.
I second the Pilot Metropolitan recommendation. I absolutely love mine. It looks more like a classy $100 pen instead of a bargain bin ballpoint like the rest of its competition in the sub-$15 range. I just wish I found out about them when I was in high school as well. Would've been far more comfortable than my mechanical pencil.
Madam, if you can, try using Diamine Red Dragon. This Red ink works well with fine nibs(Oxblood is too dark for EF - F nibs) and gives a lot of joy. Best Regards, Me :D

You didn't miss much. School would have just taught you D'nealian / Palmer cursive, which is total garbage. Much better to learn along the lines of a calligraphic script like English Roundhand or Spencerian.

I don't really recommend or teach how to hold pens.. just hold it however is comfortable for you and focus on perfecting the letters instead.

do you lift your wrist up? The Spencerian tells me to lift it up and only slide my ring finger and pinkie over the paper....i have no control.

+Ming Lee I much prefer the EF on the Falcon. The Penmanship is nail stiff and I personally just don't like the Metropolitan much.

For me is the opposite, I was never thought print, so I tend to forget about it and often times write in cursive in things I shouldn't like checks.

Hà An Phạm Nope, you hold it with your thumb and index finger, and it's supported by your middle finger (it rests on it). The middle finger shouldn't be holding the pen.
