Didn’t blend as well. Obviously as how the original was. Liked the twist. But didn’t match up. Too up beat and rythm. The songs didnt get much spot light to shine on main rifts too toooo fast paced
I really didn’t like this at all. They’re not bad actors or singers, I just want McGregor or Tveit
Okay so like I’ve seen this performed live with Aaron Tveit and Ashley Loren and I like most of the changes they made and I like the original as well, I think the problem is that Derek Klena is miscast in this role.
Aaron is the best Christian. Derek was better as The Duke
@@DMW23 agreed. I think Derek leans in too hard to the campiness when Christian and Satine’s love is supposed to be real and sincere.
Have you seen the show???? Like with your own eyes on Broadway or no?? Cause it seems like you haven’t. Derek is absolutely perfect for the role. Get a grip.
@@brittniio2234 I haven’t seen Derek perform live as Christian, only Aaron, and I’ve heard he’s improved/is more comfortable in the role this particular run. Derek is very talented and I don’t have a problem with him as an actor, I just prefer Aaron and I think Derek’s voice is suited to different roles but hey I’m super glad people love Derek as Christian. That’s great.

Bring back Tveit!
This is far too cutesy in comparison to the original. The original performance of the medley works in the movie because Satine comes off as genuinely cynical and conflicted about Christian's advances, while Christian comes off as genuinely earnest and in love. The emotional tension builds and then comes to a satisfying resolution at the end, when Christian finally wins Satine over, because both of their feelings come off as so real. This performance, though, seems much more about putting a cute number together that squeezes in as many popular love songs as possible, rather than capturing the actual emotions of the characters. I think that's why this version falls flat.
This isn’t the full version that’s shown on Broadway. They cut some stuff in the beginning, which is why it seems too cute in the beginning. At the beginning of the song, satine is still skeptical of Christian’s advances
You clearly haven’t seen it for yourself. Go watch it, then judge it. The movie came out in 01….it’s now 2023, so they used songs that are current…….like they did when they made the movie. And the show is incredibly well done.

Aside the fact that the movie didn’t use current songs but ageless songs exactly as this theatre version did (unless you believe Tina Turner is “current”), they butchered the Elephant love medley. The whole romantic chasing, the extremely romantic Christian’s naive perception of love is gone. Changing a famous song of a musical feels wrong. Like if I go watching Jesus Christ Superstar and they make it Trap music because it’s more modern. WTF. I left the theatre very disappointed.
I’ve watched the stage show twice, with Tveit and Loren, and then on tour. I love the show. But I agree with the comment … Kidman and Ewan in the movie carried a sense of doomed tragedy that couldn’t be replicated on this show.

When the music and lyrics credit takes up half the screen, you know that the score's gonna be complete nonsensical crap.

I saw the show in the theatre and I was very disappointed. The original movie didn’t use 2001 songs but ageless songs so why change them? They were all songs known by everyone even now. They literally butchered the Elephant love medley to insert songs that destroyed the whole romantic chasing and mind changing. The extremely romantic Christian’s naive perception of love is gone. Satine appears moody rather than cynical. Instead of been slowly “conquered” by Christian romantic view she seems changing her mind 10 times in the song. Also changing famous musical songs feels wrong. I’m all for adding new staff (I loved bad romance) but no changing the classic that made it famous. Like if I go watching Jesus Christ Superstar and they make it in a trap music because it’s more modern. WTF. I left the theatre very sad of being robbed of my so loved classic numbers.

This is completely wrong and so embarrassing. Why did they have to change it? At least they put in an Aussie song with Torn at least!! Not a fan at all!!! 😢
@@emmaburley5374 what are you talking about. If you're saying they cut it short, it's because they had to make it short for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Otherwise, this is the broadway show, NOT the movie.

Love the idea/intent, but a pretty bad arrangement, I have to say. The original did a great job of combining lyrics, key changes, re-orchestrations, and even inserting completely new lyrics to make the medley flow (e.g. "love makes us act like we are fools").
Unfortunately, this one makes several grave mistakes, such as staying too true to the original orchestration for songs (especially in tempo, which clashes pretty harshly), and not rewriting some lyrics to make the medley sound like a decent back-and-forth conversation.
I would have loved to hear a successful "modern" take on the song.

Because the movies was made in 01 using songs that were current then??? It’s not 2023. And if you haven’t seen the full show, you really can’t judge it based off of this. The newer songs they chose to use work perfectly & the composer did a fantastic job of making it make sense with the story line. Change isn’t always a bad thing.
