25%? One of many reasons I cook at home. Not dissing anyone who enjoys eating out and to each his own. We don't enjoy it, so don't. Like many, I've been on both sides of the dinner plate waiting and waited on. Never saw the reason the waitstaff gets the tip when it is the chef who does the work. Also, never understood why the price of the ingredients determines the tip, again, to the waitstaff rather than the kitchen. It is the exact same walk bringing a steak from the window to the table as the walk bringing a tossed salad. Please, I'd rather refill my water from a pitcher at the table (oh, the horrors!) than have to try to get someone's attention and still wait for them to decide to bring it. It should be the manager who does the employee's evaluation and pays accordingly rather than the customer who is there only to enjoy a meal. Well, I don't make the rules.
As an Australian I want to know the cost before I decide to buy. 20-25% extra is ridiculous. Pay your staff properly and be upfront about charges on the menu.
The Duchess of Edinburgh has become one of my favourite working Royals. I have read that she is patron to over 70 charities and organisations. When she was still the Countess of Wessex she visited the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) at the request of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and was the first member of the Royal Family to travel to the DRC. The visit focused on addressing the devastating impact of sexual and gender based violence in conflict, while supporting and empowering survivors and tackling the stigma they face. Not a glamorous topic to cover. The Countess also met with representatives from TRIAL International and the Pole Pole Foundation and was given a Congolese name, Umoja Mama Louise by its founder. The Duchess in my view is very impressive and I would definitely invite her to my dinner party. 🇦🇺👍
I bet she didn't use word salad in any of her speeches or when addressing people. And I bet she didn't put anyone down either (ala the clothing charity in the UK that TOW attended all those years ago),
The Duchess of Edinburgh is always on-point with her clothing choices. Unlike duchess difficult who has bare shoulders in a Muslim country - HRH showing her how it's done!
I noticed that Sophie has no airs or graces. The ladies were sitting on the rug and so did she. It's called respecting the country, people and it's traditions. Sophie has really come into her own of late and is finally being recognized as a wonderful ambassador along with her husband Edward. They have been in the shadows for too long imo. However, that is not down to their family, but the media who always seem to not highlight all the good work the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh do on behalf of the charities and our country. 🇬🇧🌹
Hi River, I heard that Misan Harriman sent the photo into the National Gallery and he actually bragged about it on Instagram that it was going to be shown, and now he’s obviously been markled, he really shouldn’t have been a bragger, and there is a video of Richard Marx coming down stairs after performing at the Kevin Costner event and Harry was standing there (basically backstage) and he said “hello Richard, I’m Prince Harry” to which Richard Marx replied “hello “ and kept walking ❤️❤️❤️
Darling River I'm one of your senior fruits. I saw Janis in Detroit live at the Grande Ballroom. Cover charge was $5.00 in 1969. She was phenomenal. Both of our names are spelled the same. Love your channel ❤️
How fabulous to see our beloved Duchess of Edinburgh donning an iconic Aussie (Australian) label, Zimmerman in Tanzania. Love our Sophie (and Prince Edward) ♥️🇦🇺
The Gallery has very strict criteria about photos or paintings that are displayed there. The photo did not meet any of them. Herriman either didn't know that there is a criteria, or he just didn't care because of his hubris, and though an exception would be made because of the two in the awful photo. SMH.
Hello darling River. Love your sense of humour it is much the same as my own. Im a 68 year old senior fruit who loves a bit of class, and you have it in abundance, my dear. Have a good evening, River. ❤
Back in ye olde days of the AOL message boards, this was referred to as a "BES" (Brave Exit Speech). It gave the departing member a chance to vent his/her butthurt and to list everyone's faults and flaws as human beings in general and board denizens in particular. It also gave the board regulars a chance to vent their own derision and opinions regarding the BESer (who, more often than not, would eventually return either under the same name or under a new alias---and they were usually sussed out quite quickly). Good times.
I always get a kick out of whenever someone loudly pronounces they are leaving a channel or group, many times using all caps. I always think don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Tipping culture is outragous here in the States, too!! I agree with you, River. Tipping should be done according to the service you receive. What I have become increasingly disgusted about lately is the fact that there are many menu kiosks in restaurants here, and there, you place and pay for your own order at a small ATM-like computer. Before checking out, THE COMPUTER ASKS YOU IF YOU WANT TO TIP THE STAFF!! Before you even pick up your food!! I hate to think that youve tipped the staff, but find that you received the wrong order/items after you leave... Well then, you've just tipped for terrible service!! Completely infuriating!!
This is how it is in Spain. My husband and I always tipped until a Spanish friend said no! Only tip if the service really deserves it. That is what we do now. To be honest many times it deserves a tip but now if the service is lack lustre then - zilch!
I’m with you River with the tipping. I tip according to the service. I’m very generous when it’s deserved. I like to tip with cash not have it added on to my credit cards and sharing with the bus staff or whatever it may be behind the scene is wrong. The person dealing with the public should be the one being tipped. They’re also having the wait staff combine their tips here and split at the end of the shift WRONG !!! So the one that goes above and beyond ends up with the same amount as the grouchy incompetent ones. Where is the incentive for them to work harder.
I usually ask how the server best get their money and use cash. That seems to be the consensus here in Georgia. I had a server mess with my debit card, he wasn’t pleased with a 20% tip and added another ten dollars. So I stopped using my debit card. I was grateful he stopped at ten bucks, but had no wish to tempt the next person to empty my account.
@@judywright4241I hope you reported him along with a copy of 😊the receipt as proof. 20% is generous. I don't mind tipping generously when service and attitude are excellent
@@maxthecat14slip it to a seemingly honest waitress/waitor and tell her/him it's the Chef's tip in a loud enough voice so she knows she's not the only one who's heard it. 😉 Never an unnaturally raised voice of course! 😂
Hello River! Love to see all the photos of the Royal Family. I am especially pleased to see Sophie so active. She is a wonderful ambassador for the Commonwealth. Also fun to see Queen Camilla and her beautiful smile. Hope you have a lovely day!
I love that HRH Queen Camilla can dress down in jeans and still look regal and hip! Harry is a mess .. everyone at the UN had a suit and tie on and imagine a Prince who should be immaculate( like Prince William always is) slouched at the table , stomach hanging over his pants with shirt open and no necktie.. just deplorable!!!
I think his clothes are a minor problem. The real problem is that they look to consider him as a "real prince", a representative of the BRF and thus representative of the state. These pictures are huge PR boost to the couple and should be a wake up call to the real royals. Looks really a bit like a competing second royal family.
Janis only discovered she could sing when she went to university, she wrote a letter to her parents reporting this fact. I’ve always loved that snippet of info, it’s utterly inspiring!
Thank you for raising awareness of the increase in charges being added to your bill. I am going out for a special lunch on Wednesday and will certainly be checking my bill at the end of the meal. I have also noticed at the checkout in some supermarkets, they are asking for example a 25p donation to be added to your bill for 'charity' which I make no bones about and decline. Not that I am in any way a skinflint but I prefer to support charities of my own choosing and that I can clearly see where the money/donation is going to.
I agree. Queen Camilla manages to always look age and occasion appropriate, stylish and remaining true to her own style. She comes across as such a warm and approachable personality
River I heard something really funny once on another website it said this is not an airport. No need to announce your departure. Cheers to a lovely cup of coffee.
River, you look fabulous today! I love your videos and look forward to your next one daily. My husband was born in Nijmegan after WWII...his parents lived through the war in that city across the river from Germany. They immigrated to American in 1957 when my husband was 6 to give their children a better life. I've been all over Holland and it is such a beautiful country and the people are absolutely wonderful...sometimes I wonder if their lives wouldn't have been better there where they were born. Because of the war, they waited until it was almost over to get married and ended up having children later in life. The war was brutal in The Netherlands and the bravery of the Dutch resistance was astounding. Arnhem is a wonderful city...they all are actually. I hope others will have the happy occasion to travel there. Thank you for highlighting Princess Anne's participation in the ceremonies in Arnhem.
Correct if I’m wrong River. I was under the impression that M. Harriman had submitted the portrait to the gallery and that the gallery had not requested it. Love your vlogs. 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦
I also worked in food service for many years. The hard working people are the most appreciative and tip the best, in my experience in America in the 70s and 80s.
I knew you would say chicken! My worst nightmare was having a meeting with our new Managing Director in London. Myself and a colleague got on the train to London. Got to London, had a meeting then was being taken to a top restaurant in London, which was lovely. My worst nightmare would be fish. So we arrived, got out the cab, got settled in the restaurant. Grabbed the menu, glass of wine as you do. To my horror, all I could see was fish! I scanned the menu in panic, my colleague was chuckling at me because she knew I hate fish. Finally, I found an option, bangers and mash, but a fancy option.😮 A few months later, it was a night out, all in hotel, all got ready for a night out, and the restaurant after drinks. Turned up, OMG could not believe it, Sushi FGS! Thankfully they had chicken.
Did the portrait gallery acquire the photo by Misan though? Or did he foist it on them? Perhaps they discovered that it's been photoshopped! I wouldn't put it past him, after all he admitted to photoshopping an entire tree into a photograph then denied it all whilst berating our wonderful Princess of Wales. This snub couldn't happen to more deserving people, subjects or photographer.
@WeLiveByTheSea he foisted it / "gifted it" to the National a gallery. Personally I don't think it's a good photograph in regards to technique and use of lightening. IMO
Love Sophie and all the rest of the working Royals. Would have barely an idea of the good they do without you. Thank you for being you and sharing a little bit of you with us.
Or he’s forgotten his Royal training experience because he supposedly doesn’t respect or love the Monarchy and it shows!! How tragic for him, he’ll never get back in the Royal family!!
Oh, River My Darling- While you always look fabulous- you outdid yourself in this broadcast from your tiara to your STUNNING makeup. You are such an artist in so very many ways. I realize I don’t “know” you but I DO adore you as you also made me laugh so hard with your report on Camilla’s son “wearing the ugliest Trainers in Christendom!” I fell down back onto the couch I had just vacated to go off to bed . It startled my husband who was still ON the couch and I had to share after I stopped laughing. As a real Yank,I had to explain to him what trainers are! Thank you for sending me to bed with a giggle- All the best and please share what lip color you are wearing! Sincerely, Elizabeth R.
I totally agree about the way every credit card/debit machines ask about a tip when some of the jobs are not tipped jobs. I also want the choice of to whom and how much i tip.❤
Hello River, I discovered your channel last year, and it’s one of my favorites. I’m 76, American, love the royal family. I love your point of view and look forward to your comments. Your outfits are gorgeous, and that red lipstick you’re wearing today is SO flattering! You inspire us all!! 🥰🥰🥰
We've been at 15% for tips here in Canada for ages now. One thing that bothers me is that most debit/credit machines have the tip as a standard function, even in places where you might not normally tip. And one thing that really frosts my socks is that in some restaurants, the hourly wage might be below minimum wage, because it's expected that the tips will make up the difference. That's shameful to expect that the customers will be paying part of the server's wages. The restaurant owners should be paying the staff a fair wage...any tips are icing on the cake.
I prefer to tip cash. My husband and l tip 20% and more for outstanding service. I also try to keep in mind that many service problems with are not the fault of the servers themselves. If theses problems are handled well my tip is not affected. Snotty servers are noted and handled accordingly.
Today I got take out. I walked in, no one brought it out, the guy told me to hit continue on the screen and tap my card… I see the amount pop up and it’s $6.50 more than my total! When telling me to hit continue, I didn’t realize he was giving himself an automatic $6.50 tip for cash me out! I only bought a $14 lunch!! Needless to say I was pissed.
You can leave a bad review of the place online or take it up with the manager. It could spare other people the trouble. You can also dispute the added amount with your bank as fraud.
When Harry is on own. He is much better. Sadly that is not very often. As always River it's lovely to see you. Wow the crown is fantastic. Have a good day.
King Charles has had the “sniffles” since his cancer treatments began, which is a known side effect. A few months ago, I noticed William give his father a discreet signal that his nose was running, while both were at a public event. The King quickly pulled out his hankie and wiped his nose.
I had the sniffles during my cancer treatment. I thought it was because i lost all my hair, including that in my nose. I am now all well and recovered and my silly nose still runs. So frustrating but in perspective, i think that i can manage this minor annoyance.
My Rich has seen hundreds of concerts during the late60’s into the late 70’s he says Janis was up there in his opinion as one of the GOAT. Thanks for the visit River.
Hello River, you look especially beautiful today. I also particularly enjoy seeing you in blue. Thank you for your European grace and kindness!
Looking absolutely stunning River! Announce and flounce haha. I agree re the encroaching service charges, much better to tip directly for good service. My uncle was a paratrooper in the battle of Arnhem and passes away shortly after, aged just 21years
Wonderful highlights of royal visits, River. Thank you. I attended an event honoring our American WWII pilots in Seattle when I lived in that city. It was wonderful. We have very few of those heroes left. They are in their late 90s. If you get the chance, please go honor the last remaining patriots this year or next. 🇺🇸🇬🇧
Thank you. For your ranting, for your immaculate respect for everything that should be respected, for your love of a country that needs so much care right now. For your forthright opinions, and your no-nonsense attitude. I love what you are doing. You’re being a warrior for something we absolutely can’t lose, and I bend my knee to you. Well sort of. No. I haven’t curtsied for a while. That could be awkward. So I’m just giving you a courteous nod. Thank you.
Oh your tip rant is spot on. American here and I noticed that many restaurants now suggest tips starting at 20%first and smaller amounts below. Clever marketing as when one is signing the check, one is accustomed to grabbing the first number. Those places don’t bet tips from me. Other thing they do is figure the tip on the food plus tax! I tip for service, not taxes or silverware. 💕
I'm glad you enjoyed the legendary lady with Soul, Janice Joplin; she was born and raised just half an hour away in La Port, Texas, about a half hour from me in North Galveston, Texas. Of course, she would have been my mother's age, but we all love Janice. 😊

Oh River I just love your Snark. No-one else delivers with such aplomb! KEEP IT UP!
“The ugliest trainers in Christendom”. I spilled my tea! 🤣🤣
Yoicks, those are a fright!
Me too... Brilliance,!😂
True!!! I truly respect and admire the tradition of the brf. Every working royals are doing a great job! They have so much class!
Meghan always gives me the impression that she has to command men’s eyes to validate herself, that’s why she half dresses.
@@Mali-D1 Oww...you might be on to something.

Once a yacht girl.
Always a yacht girl.
She always confuses sleazy with chic
She has a gift of behaving and dressing inappropriately.
The Duchess Sophie is absolutely 💯% royalty, she is making the family proud
I noticed that Sophie has no airs or graces.
The ladies were sitting on the rug and so did she. It's called respecting the country, people and it's traditions.
Sophie has really come into her own of late and is finally being recognized as a wonderful ambassador along with her husband Edward.
They have been in the shadows for too long imo.
However, that is not down to their family, but the media who always seem to not highlight all the good work the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh do on behalf of the charities and our country.

"Flounced and announced" 😂. Such a way with words you have!
I love this Tiara!!! Beautiful!!!
Love seeing Princess Anne, as hard working as ever.
Harriman, the photographer, sent his photo to the National Gallery himself. That's how they 'acquired' it
Perhaps in search of 15' extra fame? 🤔
Stunning,the lipstick 💄 colour with the white,magnificent. 🇦🇺
"The ugliest trainers in Christendom". Exactly why we love you dear River!
The lips and the tiara! Banging! 🦊 🦊 🦊
I don't understand why Harry doesn't realized that no one likes him!
IMO-he was always coddled and told by everyone he was special and that everyone loved him
I think that he may be beginning to.
He probably tells himself that they're just jealous of him!
Because he Thick 🤡
He and the wife are so arrogant and self absorbed they do not see the world as it is. Both aren't very intelligent.
Loved the Grande Ballroom!! My old stomping grounds❣️❣️❤️
That is wonderful.
How wonderful
I remember the grande ballroom!!!! Ahhh memories!!! ❤

How bout the Eastown Theater? anyone???
How fabulous to see our beloved Duchess of Edinburgh donning an iconic Aussie (Australian) label, Zimmerman in Tanzania. Love our Sophie (and Prince Edward) ♥️🇦🇺
I don't think they acquired it, Misan sent it off his own volition 😊 then made a fuss about it being accepted
The man is a conman, like his kween!
Yes .. probably fussed until it was accepted. Likely played the race card. He's the type.
The Gallery has very strict criteria about photos or paintings that are displayed there. The photo did not meet any of them. Herriman either didn't know that there is a criteria, or he just didn't care because of his hubris, and though an exception would be made because of the two in the awful photo. SMH.
@@Lynda-vq5yl he sure does
Hello darling River. Love your sense of humour it is much the same as my own. Im a 68 year old senior fruit who loves a bit of class, and you have it in abundance, my dear. Have a good evening, River. ❤
Any time I see someone declaring that they are leaving in comments, I am amazed by their self-importance😱. How will you ever go on!?
Back in ye olde days of the AOL message boards, this was referred to as a "BES" (Brave Exit Speech).
It gave the departing member a chance to vent his/her butthurt and to list everyone's faults and flaws as human beings in general and board denizens in particular.
It also gave the board regulars a chance to vent their own derision and opinions regarding the BESer (who, more often than not, would eventually return either under the same name or under a new alias---and they were usually sussed out quite quickly). Good times.
@@ladydamiana6841 😂Very good times.
I always get a kick out of whenever someone loudly pronounces they are leaving a channel or group, many times using all caps. I always think don't let the door hit you on the way out.

CT must think this is an airport where arrivals and departures are announced. How ridiculous
Your Mom has great taste in music, lucky you😃
I’m with you River with the tipping.
How about the one cooking the food ? (if it's a restaurant)
The bussers who clear the table and reset them get part of the tip, but that effects the server's bottom line re volume of tables served...
Never an unnaturally raised voice of course!

“ … with the ugliest trainers in Christendom”. I laughed out so loud I woke the dogs 😂😂😂
I prefer tipping in cash too. Loving the outfit, River. Tina Turner story - absolutely brilliant.
The play is amazing saw it in Toronto...
I always leave cash and try to give it to server. If put on credit card-sometimes restaurants make the servers wait until end of week
An outstanding broadcast River, thank you,
Janis only discovered she could sing when she went to university, she wrote a letter to her parents reporting this fact. I’ve always loved that snippet of info, it’s utterly inspiring!
That alleged portrait was not acquired, it was volunteered by the photographer.
“With the ugliest trainers in christendom” I nearly died! I love you River!
O River, don't let the grumblers bother you, you give joy to so many. Thankyou from Australia xx

So glad the portrait was rejected
Karma 😂
Evening dearest River. Looking resplendent 👋🏼👋🏼
Queen Camilla looks absolutely fabulous in her denim jeans! ( 11:19 ) She has such a great figure, looking so youthful and fresh.
I agree. Queen Camilla manages to always look age and occasion appropriate, stylish and remaining true to her own style. She comes across as such a warm and approachable personality
I so agree about tipping.
Great look River! Love it!
River I heard something really funny once on another website it said this is not an airport. No need to announce your departure. Cheers to a lovely cup of coffee.
I agree, I don’t like restaurants adding stuff! I want to tip directly!
Harry was out without his handler.
Absolutely adore this tiara. It looks spectacular on you.
Finally, I found an option, bangers and mash, but a fancy option.😮
A few months later, it was a night out, all in hotel, all got ready for a night out, and the restaurant after drinks. Turned up, OMG could not believe it, Sushi FGS! Thankfully they had chicken.
I am loving your entire look today, River!
I saw the smirking video when he was bragging about its ‘acceptance’ and it came out later that he had sent it to them.
Thanks for including reporting on Zara and the Phillips as well as Sophie. I hope the public know all the good work that Sophie does.

What a scruffy mess he looked and how rude he was when greeting the Diana award winners. He was a nervous wreck x Didnt stsnd up when they entered xx
Hangover or withdrawals?
Or he’s forgotten his Royal training experience because he supposedly doesn’t respect or love the Monarchy and it shows!!
How tragic for him, he’ll never get back in the Royal family!!
And he spoke Bla bla bla. Only words. He Is not very smart. Love River.

Thank you for sending me to bed with a giggle-
All the best and please share what lip color you are wearing!

MAGNIFICENT--thanks river dahling
Thank you for reporting on all the Royals instead of just the Dastardly Duo!
I try to pay cash. More control
When Harry is on own. He is much better. Sadly that is not very often. As always River it's lovely to see you. Wow the crown is fantastic. Have a good day.
Hello River, you look stunning today! Love the gorgeous tiara! Always love you broadcast!
