Founded in Los Angeles, the singers met each other after attending various auditions around the city. They formed the group and were signed to Michael Jackson's MJJ Music record label less than a year later.

Damn I feel old... I feel like my parents felt when they talked about the 70s, when I talk about the 90s. But R&B today really does suck. It's not just us being nostalgic. This music had real emotion behind it. Today's R&B is flat and too explicit. Anyone can make a song about straight up sex romps, but can you harmonize well enough to invoke real feelings in the listener? Today's music will never make my hair stand up like this music.
