Love you guys - and want to give you a head's up. EVERY Duran Duran song from the 80's has a MUST WATCH official video. They are ALL like little mini movies. You miss out on a lot by not watching them.
Totally AGREE, I was just about to tell them to see the "must see" video rather than an album cover. They need to venture out/open up more to the vidual side of music is in the music videos. to reacting to videos and live concerts. They're missing out. Hopefully they see where I'm coming from. I'd like to see them give them videos for future broadcasts. Its just a suggestion. If Asia and bj want to, they can or not. I'm just saying.
I remember when this came out. We would go cruising and we would play Duran Duran at full volume. They are still making great music and I just love them!!
Yes, Asia, it is about what you THINK it's about, LOL! You have to listen to the title track, Rio. Also from their first album Planet Earth and Girls on Film. Other greats - The Reflex, New Moon on Monday, Ordinary World, Is There Something I Should Know, Come Undone, Notorious and so many more. Still making music, still touring and still sound the same 40 years in the game :)
Duran Duran is currently leading in votes for The Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. I've seen them several times. My favorite band ever! Even have a tattoo! They are still putting out albums and selling out concerts!
Very important not to overthink Duran Duran. They never had any idea what they were talking about, and, to be fair, they never expected us to either. They were kind of sexy, kind of kinky, kind of catchy, and always, in the end, kind of silly! It's why we little English boys back in the early 80s always thought the Duran were for the girls - but never quite knew why! But their music was always good (and we secretly liked it ;)
Their lyrics are poetry… open to major interpretation. Without the music videos, you do miss a lot. Many of theirs were mini movies. This song was the first music video I ever saw on MTV, and after that I was hooked…
You know the song is good when Asia dances!! And I still to this day wouldn’t know what dude was saying unless I looked them up. So don’t feel bad Asia. Love you guys. Much love , light, and prayers to keep doing what you guys do!!💙☀️🙏
Wow, is this your first Duran Duran reaction. Lots of great tunes by them. Deep rabbit hole. "Save A Prayer" is my favorite. They had many hits throughout the 80's and 90's. The name Duran Duran came from a movie in the late 60's called "Barbarella" starring Jane Fonda. It was basically a sex farce made by an Italian director. There was a character in the movie named Duran Duran. They have a song called "Electric Barbarella" A couple of 90's hits "Come Undone" and "Ordinary World". Thanks and God Bless.
Yes their name is from the film Barbarella, they got the idea from the club “Barbarellas” in Birmingham,U.K. we’re they used to hang out and perform as did lots of early 80s groups…

I was a metal fan at the time, but that bass player was fire. Couldn't deny it. John Taylor, I believe. Their song "Rio" is such a fun challenge on bass.
I lost a hundred bucks when I bet my son that he couldn't master the bass line to Rio (although I secretly hoped he'd try it and succeed). I think he was 16 when he called me upstairs and played it for me start to finish. He even had the slaps and ghost notes down. Today at 18 he's in an international metal band which now has a few songs of their own available on the major streaming platforms. Can't take much credit for his success, but I'd like to think I might have fast-tracked him a bit with that challenge! Tough song to play well at any age.

This is the song that put Duran Duran over the top here in America. They were all in their early 20's at the time RIO was made. To me, the album is flawless. There's not one misstep anywhere. The songs are iconic, the music is iconic and the album cover (which purposely doesn't show the band in order to emphasize the music) is iconic. I'm glad you decided to listen just to the song. I think, if you're listening for the first time, the videos can be a bit distracting from the song. I'm hoping you do more by these guys! They have stood the test of time, unlike a lot of bands that dissed them as a "boy band" back then. While they were incredibly easy on the eyes, there was serious musicianship going on too.

Lots of people think of Duran Duran only as an '80s band, and admittedly, they were MASSIVELY huge back then, but they've been making fantastic music for 40 years, somehow managing to change with the times while still keeping their own unique sound. Last year's FUTURE PAST was their 15th studio album and they sound just as amazing on that one as they did back in the '80s. (Also, John Taylor is a flat-out bass god.) My favorite band of all time and tremendously fun to see live.
I love Duran Duran and I am a lifetime Duranie and I cannot believe you did not play the video for this song! Duran Duran had the best, most iconic videos of the MTV era and the video for the song is legendary! In this song he is hungry for this woman, he wants her, there’s a strong animal attraction! In my day it wasn’t cool to like Duran Duran unless you were a 16 year old girl. That said - “Ordinary World” is a great song and was the song that saved then really.
A lot of music from the 80s hasn't aged well, and I like it less and less as I get older (I was late teens, early 20s back then). Duran Duran is a big exception to that, I find I like them more and more as I get older, and appreciate their talent and the depth of their catalog far more now than I did back then.
According to the band the song was inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. As for the lyrics the bassist said he doesn't really know what they're about but most likely "meeting girls" and "wanting to have sex with someone".
Thanks for reacting to one of favoritte songs when I was a kid! Your humor and honest reviews make my day more enjoyable every time I watch your videos😊. I would love for you to react to Marvin Gaye's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the 1983 NBA All-Star game. I promise you have never heard anyone sing it this way!!
Asia your giggling made me giggle along with you, I'll never enjoy this tune in the same way again! Thanks for that...I'll have to concentrate on the bass to enjoy it in future 😅😂
Love this song. Love the album Rio. Since you like this you will also probably like Poison Arrow by ABC. Also , Planet Earth by Duran Duran with more of that fantastic bass from John Taylor.

"Mouth is alive, juices like wine
... ...
Mouth is alive, all runnin inside"
Yeah, she's really affecting him 🎧 💓 🎶
Thanks for reacting to one of favoritte songs when I was a kid! Your humor and honest reviews make my day more enjoyable every time I watch your videos😊. I would love for you to react to Marvin Gaye's rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at the 1983 NBA All-Star game. I promise you have never heard anyone sing it this way!!
Great song by great band.
Lady Dianna loved Duran Duran

Ahhhhh. Englands version of Journey. Good band great live show! Props! ❤️🔥
I never thought of it that way. Dead on right!
I feel that Men at Work + Duran Duran = INXS.
Big pop band from the early to mid 80s. They were all over MTV back then. Catchy tunes
Check out the video to this song. Duran Duran made very high production videos back in the day.
When I first heard this song years ago, my face looked like her face!🤣🤣
Check out the official video to the song. It will explain what the song is about.
Aaah 😂😂😂
You guys are HILLARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣
I mean.... listen to all the rap and RnB, Disco and Pop in general from the 70'ies and up till today.
You can almost always count on a good portion of nastiness 😋
Lyrics giving double meaning ... or just straight on... 😄

Simon has said the song was based on the Little Red Riding Hood story, but for modern times.
