Another fun deck for quick games, thanks ^^ After seeing the wonderful display in your game 1, I tested switching out the Kodamas and one Question for three Tyvar's Stands, and that turned out really well. Does not get around Sunfall, but pretty much spells doom against any other sweeper in addition to providing the usual surprise finisher when unblocked or vs. spot removal/bounce :) I'm also not quite convinced of Doomskar Warrior yet, as it always seemed the slowest alternative and doesn't provided the needed recovery at an empty board. I believe 2 Oddities (like you mentioned) may just provide some additional pressure and more often force chumps. Also the Vigilance creatures + combat tricks feel amazing against any go-wide decks! 😍
Legend has such a dry humor you just have to admire that. After two sunfalls and another sweeper he said: "We basically dead". I had to laugh out loud after hearing that. Its always the same, if you have a somehow "honest" deck with creatures (I mean not the totally aggro decks like Boros or red aggro) and the like you are nothing more than cannon fodder for control players, regardless of the color.
We got an absurd 4 mana 6/5 trampler with conditional flash previewed today from Outlaws, also has discard effect when its in your hand to get a dessert. Pretty damn cool, gonna craft one of these decks once rotation hits

@@NickTemperistic I remember Oko and Uro being banned and getting compensation in the form of mythic wild cards for the banning announcement. They also experiment with nerfing cards in the form of Altering the cards stats or rules text in their respective alchemy versions.
@@368erStuhl Also what happens in MTG Arena is irrelevant to paper magic. If I run a standard tournament we aren’t going to care what they do to make believe versions of the physical cards that we are holding in our hands. Paper magic is canon. This is the reason why they don’t do it.
It would be a cool design space if WotC created a creature that had a benefit from being exiled. Something similar to Tencious Underdog with something like “when this creature becomes exiled, you may play it from exile for (some type of cost). It gains haste and exiles itself at the end of your turn.” Make it so that sometimes, it is beneficial to try to put a creature card in the graveyard rather than just the answer of exile everything. I say this as a control player who really enjoys the exile sweepers but also recognize how bad it has been for creature decks, particular green.
The rookie is actually on the case of figuring out why mono-green disappeared from ranked and this video is a great documentary on the topic. The "favored" mono-red match-up ends with you barely having any hp left. Even that last win was graciously provided by your opponent by exposing his Squee to sorcery speed removal at 40:31 instead of playing it next turn.
My list: 4 Adaptive 4 Cenote Scout 2 Hard hitting question 1 Tyvar's Stand (Snakeskin Veil will probably be better once OTJ comes out) 4 Detective 4 Beastcaller 2 Cankerbloom 2 Feral Encounter 3 Polukranos 3 Kodama 3 Contaminator 4 Doomskar 22 Forest 1 Boseiju 1 Mishra's Foundry Some days I go 5-0 and finish my dailies quickly, some days I go 1-4 and switch decks. That's the monogreen life.
This is very similar to the list i've been running, though I run Cenote Scout instead of Packleader and 2 copies of the phyrexian Nissa to finish out the game with an overrun effect (suprisingly effective if the opponent makes the mistake of leaving one or two creatures on the board!) I also run 3 copies of Kodama, and throw in some royal treatments to make sure i can have modified creatures on the board, namely for the bloom-kins. The deck was suprisingly effective right up until high diamond, where the amount of control and removal just becomes far too oppressive.
I'm running a similar list. I'm seeing everything that's shown here with it. I'd say monogreen is semi-viable but Diamond is about as high as I can go with it so that shows about where it's power level is right now.
Great deck as usual Luca, Do you think it would be possible for you to feature sometimes standard decks played in Standard events? I don't normally play ranked but events more, so I would be very happy to see how these decks perform in events. Grazie mille!
I personally think I would sub out the 2 doomskar warriors and one ferox for 3 Uvenwald oddities. I just think it could give you that extra burst potential you need to win after a sweeper. If we really want to spec into stealing a few more game from control I could see taking out 2 of the fight spells and putting in a tyvars stand.
Been playing mono green in best of 3, I have actually made room for a few tranquil frillback as a utility box of life gain, graveyard hate, and enchantment/artifact removal, if you every kick it twice vs mono red blowing up komano and gaining 4 the game is usually over
imo, mono green definitely feels like a bo3 not a bo1 archtype. It's too slow and not wide enough to beat mono red or boros on the draw, and not enough haste or card draw to compete with any decent control. But i can think of several sideboard cards to help swing it either way.
I do not know always had the feeling. Counterspells should cost as much as the countered spell. Wipes should cost at least 6 mana. There are so many op cards now it is just like a race to get to your op card before the other does the game. Everything is to fast and to cheap now. At least i feel that way. I stopped playing mtg arena and started playing mtg puzzle quest man the cards there are balanced soooo much better.
@jasonslade6259 that is not true. What I am trying to say is the card design of board wipes is altogether bad and boring. For me it would be best if they would not exist. And we had some more interesting cards. Tap an amount of creatures with and one with your choosing. The game is only about fast ko or let me wipe you till you have nothing and then I win. I do not understand how this concept can be protected from fans. The design is just lazy. It is like this well we have a board wipe. What do pack in our next boosterpack so people still buy this stuff. Well a boardwipe that is even better. And again and again and again, we reached a point here where mtg turned to yugioh. Historic turn 1 kills. How can anyone like this.
@@DurandalValeth I don't know what to tell you, the game has had board wipes and turn 1 kills since day 1. I do think Farewell and Sunfall in particular are too difficult to play around but MTG has always had these mechanics.

The lack of interaction by "control" players (let's be honest, they're just netdecking), is infuriating. Institute a new rule: 1) If the player does not attempt to cast a permanent by turn three, they get a warning, "You must interact with the board". 2) If at the end of turn 5 a player has not attempted to put a permanent (Enchantment, Artifact, Planeswalker, Creature) on the board - they lose the game.

On the back of the new charm? Yeah, probably. Until sunfall rotates it's hard for any creature deck that doesn't win by turn 5
Blue seems necessary to avoid sweepers atm.
Either having blink effects, phase outs or straight up countering them.
