As a Nagito and Kokichi fan, you are absolutely right. Half of the fandom treats them as innocent uwu cute boys. They are interesting, well-written characters and definitely not innocent
i just love that there insane like it sounds weird but-
That's true, it does bug me how people don't pay attention to the fact of how complex their characters are, yet just stereotype them.
I feel like part of the reason people defend Komaeda specifically is because they feel he’s written to be neurodivergent, which may or may not have some basis, and fans who are neurodivergent may get that and identify with his difficulty fitting in and the other characters’ blatant disgust to him. Obviously, the other characters reasons for disliking him goes way deeper, but I suppose it hits different for people who have been ostracized and insulted for seeming weird. Admittedly, before the other characters are aware of Nagito’s plans and mindset, he appears to be much more socially intelligent and less obviously neurodivergent, which is pretty telling tbh. With Kokichi fans, there’s kind of two camps- people who believe he’s 100% innocent, and people who accept he’s not innocent but consider him a much better character than he is and hype up his intelligence and stuff. Did the former, I think it’s once again people who feel misunderstood, maybe not neurodivergent people specifically, but definitely those who were still ostracised from other people, possibly bullied, or coming from lower income families. The type of kids who were hyperactive, generally chaotic, and had been dealt a more unfortunate hand at life and therefore felt less motivated to care about things. And again it becomes similar to Nagito as they feel Kokichi is unfairly prosecuted just for being more chaotic, which isn’t necessarily the case but how it may resonate with some people due to their past experiences. Kokichi’s ability to appear younger and more vulnerable (quite like a scared, abused child) corroborates this, I think, which is why people may tend to go easy on him. For the other camp, they see through Kokichi’s BS and accept him as being a master manipulator. The blind spots in these people’s reasoning come less from Kokichi in-game himself and more from his characterisation in the writing as a whole, considering that it’s pretty poor, has way too many loopholes, is unrealistic, and unoriginal.

For example, in the FNAF fandom, people tried to picture the animatronic who scooped out the fucking organs of the nightguard in FNAF SL, as an innocent cute boy. This happens to every fandom. Tbh if you sum up what kokichi has done in danganronpa v3, his personality is just a lovable a**hole, he comes up with roasts, he lies, but he also hits people with the cold truth, he also likes indirectly getting people killed, he got like 5 characters indirectly killed.

I must be one of the few people that hates Shuichi as a protag and much preferred Kaede, but above all worships the Ultimate Supreme Leader, lol. Most fans of Ko also love Shu, but honestly, I think Shuichi is weirdly stupid for a detective and barely questions anything other than murder cases. His lack of critical thinking meant the killing game took a whole extra chapter and two more lives to end, both purple bois had already planned it all out.
I like Kokichi not because of "uwu cute anime boy likes Fanta" but because every interaction with him is either funny or interesting, or both! His dialogue is really well done, and you can tell the writer put so much effort in because you can only fully understand him and read between the lines correctly after you finish the game and play again. That replay value makes him the best alone, but on top of that, he's a childish prankster with good intentions yet horrible actions. He teaches you to understand not all lies are bad, and that everyone, in reality, is a liar, they're just not as honest about that fact like he is. This makes him arguably the most fitting mascot for the theme of V3- truth and lies. Reality and fiction. Especially as the perjury mechanic is almost always something he sees right through and allows anyway.

The Kaede one is too accurate. If any character in Danganronpa is "happy" they will be considered a bad character and it's frustrating.
I mean, I only considered her bad because it felt like she was marketed as the main character and didn’t have any character arc so they killed her off. But if you look at it from the perspective of a deconstruction of her positive character throughout chapter 1, she becomes much more interesting

There were so many times where I've seen people hate Kaede for being "overly positive/optimistic" but love Kaito for his positivity. I don't find anything wrong with disliking Kaede and liking Kaito but it's weird to hate a character for possessing a personality trait that you despise but then love that same variation of the trait but pushed even further on another character and love them for it. There's plenty of reasons to dislike Kaede, but some of the ones people explain can be applied to various characters who they rank higher. But I'll admit, I'm guilty of this too. I guess sometimes a trait might fit better with a certain character and be annoying/poorly written to place on another. (ex. making Mikan optimistic wouldn't make much sense due to her trauma but Nagito being so is reasonable)

Accepting the sister plot twist with Korekiyo is by far the biggest pill I had to swallow as I played through the series.
Man, I relate to this way too hard. I think when the pieces started coming together and I figured out that Kiyo's sister was abusive and manipulative, it made me feel sorry for Kiyo, which made me like him again

@Tp Roll Sayaka just like Kaede wanted to save her childhood friends (her idol group), and she didn't even know anything about the class trials and the executions, so she never wanted Makoto or the class dead, so no, those are not her true colors, she's not a bad person, she was just a desperate girl who didn't know what to do to protect her family fastly, understandable, I would do anything to save my family just like her.
Keep in mind that Sayaka has a canon song (monochrome answer) where her VA officially confirmed Sayaka really loved Makoto, so it's obvious she was hesitating because at the end, she didn't want to kill, and even the game admitted that fact.
This is not a hate comment, I just wanted to explain and make clear some of the misconceptions Sayaka suffers as a character.

I relate to Sakura, Imposter, Ibuki, Kaede, and the Himiko one lmao. Though, I politely disagree on the Nagito & Kokichi one. Not much of a big fan of them, but I find those parts completely inaccurate and I highly doubt most of them (the fans) would think that way in my experience. It's just a way to make fun of Nagito and Kokichi fans and kind of normalizing bullying them (I see someone either liking one of them and they get shunned by the majority of danganronpa fans), and most Nagito & Kokichi fans are ironically one of the most chillest fans and mind their own business and enjoy harmless content. I would replace their parts with "Nagito/Kokichi fans not shutting the fuck up talking about them 24/7" lmao (Because most fans just talk about them and yes they are aware of their actions, and they are morally grey) I apologize for the long comment, just saying

I'm a Kokichi fan and I'm trying to decide on if he's terrifying or cute, and I found my answer, both. You got this adorable face, height, sass, and gayness. Then you have his terrifying sprites and what he'd do sometimes.

Time for an update because i like even more characters so here's the characters i like now: aoi,toko, Kyoko, korekiyo (i know that whole sister thing, let's just pretend that doesn't exist), angie, kirumi, kaito,gonta,ultimate imposter, kazuichi,sonia, shuichi, keade, rantaro, AND BASICALLY EVERY CHARACTER BESIDES HIFUMI, HYOKO, AND TERUTERU.
Most people who are fans of Makoto relate to what he said at the start way too much, myself included.
I'm not part of the majority of his fans, then. I don't relate to his introduction, and at the same time, I find him extraordinary instead of 'average' and 'boring' like the way he thinks of himself.

Honestly, I prefer the nicer characters over ones who might be well written, but also happen to be abrasive. Kokichi's the only exception, but that had to take some analysis.
