- Is 28mm Fixed lens a good focal length to shoot portraits? Can you shoot portraits with a Leica Q2 28mm Fixed Lens? In this video I will show you some samples of a photoshoot I did at Monsterpalooza.

If you prefer not to half-press the shutter and recompose (best executed in Spot, or with a small box in Field, Face Detection, or Tracking), and if you're on firmware 4.0, go to [Main Menu > Page 1 > Focusing > Touch AF in EVF > On]. You can now use the touchscreen to move your focus point in every AF Mode except Multi-Field while looking through the EVF.
For the other AF Modes (also accessible in the Focusing menu), with Spot you get a tiny crosshair. It's great.
With both Field and Face Detection, you get a box. If you bring the EVF to your eye and, with your left thumb, tap and hold the screen until you see the focus box, you can simultaneously rotate the right wheel with your right thumb to change the size of the box. You'll know you can change the size when you see little red arrows at the corners of the focusing box. This is known as AF Quick Setting. It also works with the rear LCD as well as with pinch and zoom like an iPhone.
If you enable "AF Quick Setting Only" under Touch AF in EVF, you won't be able to move the box or crosshair. You'll only be able to resize the box in the relevant modes.
With Tracking, you can move the focusing box but you cannot resize it.
Unlike with most Sony bodies (and probably Canon, etc), you can't change which part of the screen is active and you can't change the touch from absolute to relative.
This means that where you're touching on the touchscreen is roughly mapped to the frame. So if the focusing box or crosshair is currently in the bottom-left of the frame and you tap the top-right of the touchscreen, it'll jump directly to the top-right of the touchscreen.
Wow! What a detailed comment. 👌 I love it. Definitely, learned something new. I'm going to change some of the settings now. Thank you!
That basketball planter is pretty cool 😎
Super dope!
Awesome photos!
Thank you very much. I appreciate that
Hey Andy, I’ve had similar issues with the focus point being annoying to adjust. I typically use the d-pad to adjust it. However, even when you’re looking through the viewfinder and the screen is off, you can still use the touchscreen to move the focus point. I think this function can be turned on and off. Sometimes I have the camera positioned in such a way that my nose might hit the screen, which cause the focus point to move. But anyway, you may find it a useful feature. Try it out.
Thanks! This feature existed in my other cameras too. I haven't tried it on this camera yet. I look at the monitor and then focus kinda where I want to focus. In regards of rule or 3rds. Then I shoot with the VF and do micro adjustments depending on what I'm shooting
You’ll love this feature. Just go to settings and activate it. Put your eye to the EVF then use your thumb hold and move around the focus point. It’s like using a trackpad on a laptop to move the cursor. Give it a try. I don’t use the D-Pad unless in the Menu System.
Wow. This is a crazy good tip. I’ve had the same issue with moving focus point. Had no idea you could do this. I need to go find that setting now.
I like your photo editing style 🤙🏽
AFC works pretty well. I keep mine on the eye detection and it’s just as fast as my R5.
Thank you!
It is? I tried it a couple times but it never seem to find the face. I'll give it another chance
A nice, folksy, practical answer to the question: How do you like your Q2?
love it!
Hi Andy, my biggest concern with Q2 is the 28mm focal length. I am also a 50mm shooter and wish Leica had a Q with it. Do you miss 50mm or you OK with 28mm and cropping? Thank you very much for your answer.
I miss the 50mm a lot. 28 is nice but that isn't my focal length. I would've been ok with a 35mm. It's more versatile. 28 feels like it's straight up meant for street photography
photos look great! can i ask what you used to edit them, any presets?
Thank you! I use LR and I use my own presets.
I don’t bother with moving the focus point. Just focus and recompose.
That's what I'm learning. I'm trying to figure out the best way to shoot. I'll get it down and shaee
sorry but doesn’t Leica Q2 have autofocus ?
Yes sir, it does. Wanted to test out the manual focus and how to use it

yeah!
