Sadly the biggest problem with Ben 10 is the same problem fans have with Spider Man post-One More Day: THEY DON'T ALLOW THE CHARACTER TO GROW. CN forced the showrunners to make Ben so unlikable because they wanted to tried to recapture that feeling from original series, which only work because Ben was kid and his attitude was consistent with his age and personality at the time. Having Ben acting this way in Alien Force, when he is already teenager completly ignore all his grow through both series and doesn't makes Ben look like relatable hero. It makes him come off as imature man-child.
I also think some of the blame lies on the writers also. Yes Ben was maturing In alien force but imo he became really boring and wasn't that interesting to watch in alien force.
@@philipbadguy3794 That more option up to the fans. I personally though Alien Force was next step for Ben character, with him still having ego problem but now being more aware and trying to be more active and responsible now that he no longer has Grandpa Max. Answer this question of mine have you seen any 15 to 18 teens who's 'Mature'?(there are few exceptions but those are extreme cases!)Were you Mature at that age?
@@Kardam_Lucifer That's not the point. Both the original series and Alien Force are about Ben growing from a arrogant kid to more humble and heroic figure. By Alien Force season 3, he should act more responsible and mature like he was in the previous. He was flawed but was cleary more aware of his flaws and took responsability for his mistakes. Having Ben still act like child after all this seasons it's not natural, it's pure character regression (I would say is character assassinations, considering that even original series Ben wasn't that unlikable).
i think things like happens with a lot of teenagers, i've seen a lot this irl. a lot them went through a drastic change from what they initially were to something entirely different and edgy more than ever before, so with that i still don't really have much of a problem although his words on vilgax/kevin/gwen were true.
@@marchbelongee Context matters though. While that can happen with a lot of teenagers, Ben should not have been one of them. This is supposed to be someone who's been through a lot and matured well past his years because of all the stuff he's been through.
I think Vilgax's return could've been better executed if Ben actually lost the fight. Since Ben stopped the Highbreed invasion he's become a respected hero that's praised throughout the universe. It would make sense that he'd become a bit more brash and cocky, which results in him not trying as hard. Conversely, Vilgax has spent the last few years conquering other planets, absorbing the powers of their respective champions, and becoming stronger. When the two clash for the first time after so many years, because Ben was unprepared he's quickly defeated and Vilgax finally emerges victorious. Basically, Vilgax should've been to Ben what Clubber Lang was to Rocky, or Bane was to Batman. This can result in either Ben losing the Omnitrix here, or Vigax finally conquering Earth. Then perhaps this season can have an over-arching plot of Ben getting back into shape, devising a plan to take down Vilgax, and save the Earth. To this season's credit there were a handful episodes I did enjoy: "Single Handed", "If All Else Fails", "Busy Box", "Con of Wrath", and "Above and Beyond".
While I like this idea, considering they seemingly had to make AF more like the original show I don't think they could have gotten away with the seaso beginning with something as mature as Ben losing the planet in the season openner. My idea has been that we make the upcoming fight with Vilgax the hook for the season, have him challenge Ben and then include something like a court approved date to explain why they can't just fight now. Sure this doesn't seem in-character for Vilgax either, but if he's going to go the Lawful Evil route then really hammer that point home. Have him say something along the lines of how he's tried to conquer Earth his normal ways and failed so he's trying something different and unexpected. Then the episodes have an underlying story arc of Ben and Vilgax getting ready to face one another, you can have episodes where Ben is trying to unlock aliens or gets one after helping an unrelated situation. Vilgax meanwhile can appear at the start and/or end of an episode, whatever champion he just faced beaten and him claiming their power or weapon to build up his threat level.
While I agree the Vilgax change is drastic and not well handled, I think they could have made it slightly less jarring if they changed it so that he only started ruling Vilgaxia between the timeskip of classic and Alien Force. Maybe he changed his ways in order to be a better ruler for his people. Yeah it still wouldn't feel in line with Vilgax but at least in this scenario it could be somewhat excused as character progression/development instead of assassination.
@@ilan_profile lol no early alien force wouldve been it. Omniverse does a lot of continued character backpedaling like season 3 of alien force did. Like the way Julie and Ben separated.
@@daymianhogue1634 Omniverse still has some continuity errors, yeah, but I can get over that with its world building, season arcs, character development, OVER 70 ALIENS, impressive animation, etc. I feel the positives completely outweight the negatives compared to UAF or OS
Oof, a shame it was cut short. Happen to have grown to like the later series Omniverse a lot over the years. Although I suppose I knew from the start of Alien Force that its 3rd season would be what stopped the momentum. Also, hit the nail right on the head with Vilgax. I really wish they just said he was a different character that's related to him in AF instead of changing virtually everything about him and making him this joke/shell of his former self. Wouldn't have had as much impact if he was some other guy I guess, but it's better than completely off characterization. The Vilgax I knew would destroy an entire city just to find Ben and break out of an ice block and come out swinging the moment Kevin 11 thought of him as anything less than the most dangerous and feared being in the galaxy. Not you know, abide by galactic law and get beaten up and made fun of constantly by characters he should be able to easily defeat.
JUST-JUMP-TO-OMNIVERSE !!!! you dont even need to see UAF for that , like the most you must know about uaf is that ben gets a new watch so you dont question why in omniverse he has a new one.
Yeah even as a kid this was the point Ben 10 began falling off for me. It was like Cartoon Network got cold feet about making these characters...likable or something and had them become massive prima donnas in some strange attempt at "adding personality".
It's too bad this is what broke you. Me personally I didn't like AF Or UA but I thought the OG Ben 10 was an alright show as a kid I can definitely see the flaws it had though and Omniverse was probably the peak of Ben 10 Media we'll ever get despite it's own flaws I think it's by far the best show they released
When I watched an episode after season 2 I saw gwen saving him and ben couldn't use the omnitrix because it was covered by some metal and last season he used it without touching it so I thought oh he is an impostor or decoy or something but no Also I agree vilgax was botched this season before he was like darkseid or thanos if that was a different character the same species as vilgax that would've been pretty cool
Honestly it's a shame, even as a kid I hated the inconsistency of this season and ultimate alien, but man I remember it being better than this. Guess I won't be rewatching ever, but I'm glad you did this series.
I think it's really sad, because Vilgax as a hero to his own people has a TON of interesting potential that the show just doesn't interrogate at all. Vilgax is a galaxy-conquering tyrant but his own people love him because he keeps them safe? You just wrote half a Star Trek story about perspective and different alien cultural values, just steal the other half and you're golden! But instead the episode is full of cutesy moments where Gwen pats Vilgax on the back and says "maybe you're a nice guy after all" to the dude who has tried to kill them all a dozen times.
I feel like season 3 was all about the fact that someone was like “alien force isn’t enough like the original. I miss the bratty Ben and the evil Kevin” and so they doubled down and made this.
I appreciate your willingness to stick it out. I think you had a really fresh perspective on the series, and its helped me consider episodes in lights I never really thought of before. I'm content with you leaving things off here, and naturally I'm looking forward to whatever you cover next! ...If I may throw a suggestion in, Man of Action worked on a show called Generator Rex, which, to me, is their best work. I hope that if you feel like checking that out, you enjoy it, because I remember the story and characters fondly. But I'm more than happy to see you critique it as well. Have a good one.
IMO Ultimate Alien season 1 is very enjoyable, but then it gets progressively worse again like AF. I personally love the series though, through its highs and lows.
This is why I've been very meh on this ben 10 nostalgia wave people have been on trying to get reactors to watch or making whole channels based around a show made for pre teens at best. The OG show imo is best and as soon as you were having issues with it I thought MAYBE the older and sorta darker sequal series would help you in some way but I didn't have high hopes. Tbh ultimate alien has its own problems and is a similar level to AF the diffrent series after that gets worse every time imo. I aged out of it all sometime around ultimate alien and trying the l later stuff later it wasn't much better looking back.
Idk I rewatched the Justice League cartoons I watched as a preteen and they were still pretty good so I don't think it's the demographic dragging this show down as much as the low quality
Idk wven on a recent rewatch of ben 10 i found it pretty fun and enjoyable. The world and the aliens that come from it are really interesting and fun to discover. I just think coming into ben 10 to try to find a deep and provocative plot just isnt a good mindset since its very old school comic book esque with its rules and episodic. You’re not gonna get much out of the characters but its the world that makes ben 10 interesitng and fun
Well then again that's just you getting older and realizing that most things that you enjoyed when you were younger aren't as good as you remember them being. I also think coming back to Ben 10 and thinking it's going to have the greatest plot ever made is a terrible mindset to have. Ben 10 isn't some deep and dark anime with perfect characters or anything, it's just a cool superhero show that Little Timmy would watch in the morning and Cartoon Network's money maker in the mid 2000's to early 2010's.
Also who cares if there's channels out there that base they're whole channel around Ben 10? There's so many channels that base their channel on something made for kids or teens like Pokemon for example, so I don't get why Ben 10 UA-camrs are the breaking point.
Thanks for this. Honestly, while I liked quite a few things across the whole franchise (and for some reason watched Oniverse, after dropping ultimate), characters become unlikable and incompetent, without consequence, was a definitely nail in the show. If you want to palate cleanse 'Roswell: Aliens, Myths & Legends' has a lot to recommend, though a bit dated. Generator-Rex was a good show that even crossed over with Ben, but I'll admit that a cool premise was bogged down by some flaws and episodes that didn't accomplish much.
Tbh. I think that Omniverse is the best one. You’d probably like it since everything has an actual weight to them and things actually matter. Characters are also great. They’re all taken a bit less seriously but it fits into your enjoyment of the weird episodes of season 2 with the big chill mother episode, but it also has the seriousness of the episode of the DNA desert episode
Season 3 of Alien Force basically combined the worst parts of the first two seasons of Alien Force with the worst parts of the classic series and didn't even try to make them *fit* with each other. And while the franchise did get better at times after this, this season's problems *still* continued to affect the show
the for ever knights do come back. vilgax he sort of goes on his own arc well on off screen defeated all these heroes to prove to him self that he can defeat ben ten , it makes bit more honorable but then after words he quickly reset back to old vilgax
I didn't even know you were watching it, good to know it's not gonna be a complete series so I don't need to waste my time watching more from you on this.
I really wanted you to cover Ultimate Alien because it's the most interesting saga to talk about but I'm happy that you won't suffer through it because you'd probably feel the same as you did with Alien Force. But I really think that it would've been the one that you would've disliked the least.

Well, Showrunner of Alien Force and Ultimate Alien is Dwayne McDuffie. He is the story editor of Justice League Season 2 and Justice League Unlimited. Also directors of most Alien Force and Ultimate Alien episodes are DCAU directors like Dan Riba and Butch Lukic. It has lots of connections to DCAU.

This is honestly depressing, to find out that a show I loved so much as a kid sucked so hard. It's been forever since I last saw it, but after keeping up with this video series I don't think I'll have to:(
Maybe I'm a little petty, but I'm so happy that there's someone out there who doesn't follow the Ink Tank Philosophy that UAF was the best the show has to offer. I want to turn this video into a fluid and then inject it straight into my veins. I've shared every single view you've dispensed in this video and it makes me so happy.
I think it became pretty clear during the first parts of alien force review that you probably wouldn't like the rest of the series. Ben 10 is just wildly inconsistent in every iteration and show and while I personally like ben 10 and am willing to look past the flaws it's clearly something that just isn't for you and I gotta respect that. At some point you gotta tap out.
I need to ask, when you are reviewing these episodes, are you taking into consideration production order vs airing order??? Cause some of these continuity issues could be due to you viewing them in the wrong order.
thank god someone is talking about af not being perfect, i was very hyped to watch af after rewatching og (never got to see af as a kid) and i was hugely dissapointed.
Honestly, it's going to be sad that you won't continue this series anymore. That being said, it's highly understandable why. In some way, I'm a little glad you are. I never chose to watch Alien force, mainly because I didn't like the style, it was too dark, seemed very serious, etc, but these videos gave me more insight to why. Tbh, the only other Ben 10 series I've seen was Omniverse, but let me tell you it's kind of shit. It wasn't that good and I think Ben reverts back to Kid Ben more than ever there, and probably less responsible than he was in Alien Force. The kid Ben segments in there, boy, it was kind of shit too. I mean it was a little fun for me to see some of that, but most of that was about Ben at age 11 dealing with some sort of addiction to his own alien. Mainly, Feedback. I'm gonna be honest. I never liked that alien, as he was mostly shown for the remainder of the show when I was a kid. Even so, I didn't think he'd be that bad. Then Omniverse pulled this bullcrap where Ben was getting addicted to this dumb alien, and apparently liked him so much that he'd use him to defeat Malware with no concern for anyone. He even outright said that Gwen was jealous, despite EVERYONE BEING REASONABLE. Then after he looses Feedback, he tries to kill Malware and succeeds. Then he's all depressed because he lost his alien. What? I don't understand. You know, maybe I'd be able to forgive it if it was portrayed differently. Maybe instead of Ben using Feedback to fight Malware, maybe he's at school. Could be when he's still 10 or whatever. He uses Feedback and he causes destruction, the alien kind of takes over like Ghost Freak. When Ben turns back, he realizes how much damage he's caused. Then Malware shows up and Ben's powerless because he timed out using Feedback. Gwen gets hurt badly, and Ben cries and screams in rage and terror, and would outright try to kill Malware. He then gets depressed, probably more so given his actions got his family and everyone else hurt, and would insist that Azmuth removes the omnitrix. Soley because Ben believes he's too immature and too much of a danger to even have that thing. He'd be fine to given Malware appears to be dead. That would be a MUCH better reason for Ben to remove the omnitrix. Not because he lost some dumb alien he got addicted to, but because he hurt everyone and thinks he's simply doesn't deserve to be a hero. Like that episode in season 1 where he tries to leave. His reasons for not using Feedback? PTSD. He simply never uses Feedback and refuses to speak about him, because that alien caused him to destroy everything. That entire line of self forgiveness in omniverse, or saving the beating for the bad guys, would hit harder in my opinion. Anyway, Omniverse didn't do that, among with other things it did wrong, like toss Julie aside and get Ben together with Kai, simply because it HAS TO HAPPEN due to their future son wanting it. Bullshit. Outright bullshit. You may have dodged a bullet, but honestly my points might be biased so take everything with a grain of salt. That being said, I'm glad you went through with reviewing the series and finished as much as you could. It takes a large amount of dedication to do that. I hope you find better series to calm your mind.
Yeah I agree with you there brother. Never liked feedback or that stupid addiction storyline. I could see it working if it had turned out that feedback was doing that on purpose to facilitate escape, like ghostfreak, but nah it's just... zappy pigtails gets killed, Ben gets sad. I do like omniverse but things like that make me not respect it's decisions.
@@yashjoshijee2294 oh please get off of OV's dick, it's infinitely worse than both. Making a new planet for dna samples isn't nearly as bad as wiping a character's dad out of existence and changing the origins of like 5 different characters
Yeah, you don’t want to progress any further, AF S3 started the downfall of the franchise in terms of quality, so if you don’t want to lose your sanity don’t progress any further.
It's sad to see you stop here, because I feel like Omniverse is where it gets off. But I get it. I wouldn't want to watch a show that takes 10-11 seasons to get good. I at least would want you to watch the first season of Omniverse, but I feel like I'm asking too much. Thank you for your months of service, and rest well. I enjoyed the OG series and barely saw any of Alien force. I like the idea of the Omnitrix and i especially love the stuff that it does later? (I think its in ultimate alien where ****SPOILER***** they get their war forms and that was always amazing to me) it was always a neat idea but seeing you review has really shown me just how the show really is. Pretty sad, i do have fond memories, the spoiler mention, ghostfreaks episode, the movie, so on. I think i saw the live action one too which was.......odd to say the least. Anyways sad about ultimate alien but thats totally fine. Maybe i'll give it a go for myself and see how that is!
I genuinely love Alien Force. It had its issues but it was overall a solid show I found. Season 3 and onwards, with some exceptions, is a drop in quality I find.
My first problem with this season is that they gave Gwen Ben's face. Still better than the Omniverse design though, where she turned into Velma from Scooby-Doo.
And where she left Ben for university, to study 'fake stage magic'. Gwen has a degree in how to be a stage magician! Oniverse has a lot of cool ideas, but it didn't fix many of the problems that escalated here, a best it swept them away from the plot.
I was never a Ben 10 viewer as a kid. I did catch one episode and never thought about it again. Most of my friends around me loved it though, and I can understand why based on its cool premise. Yeah, it doesn't sound like a programme that holds up. Some of the character reverting in the original series probably would be due to children being addicted to repetition, so I can understand making multiple episodes teaching redundant lessons. At this point, however, the character reverting feels like the result of executive meddling. I have a hard time believing the staff behind the programme wanted to do all of this, perhaps a higher-up decided this or that should go this way in an effort to boost ratings and profit. Any chances you might take a quick look at the 2016 reboot? I've heard mixed things about it but it does look like something I'd find preferable.

They nerfed vilgax he was supposed to be ben hardest villain but no he's one of the weakest
This is why Omniverse retconned the retcon
And become worst.
We warned you about this season... hope he sticks for the entire franchise... I think Omniverse really builds up...
There's a lot of good in Omniverse, but also quite a bit of bad, particularly with how it treats characters.
Omniverse has a few high points but terribly low low-points frequently
Based on what he expected of Ben 10, Omniverse definetly has most stuff he's looking for
@@ilan_profile lol no early alien force wouldve been it.
“Perhaps I treated you too harshly!” - Lowart probably 😂
Oh lord. Season 3 is a thing to be dreaded in the Ben 10 brand
Season 3 of the original show was pretty good. It's season 4 that went downhill
Even in the original show, Ben became a bit more jerk like I’m Season 3
JUST-JUMP-TO-OMNIVERSE !!!! you dont even need to see UAF for that , like the most you must know about uaf is that ben gets a new watch so you dont question why in omniverse he has a new one.
"I'm tired of Ben 10 giving me sloppy retcons". Good thing he's skipping Omniverse then.
Omniverse had only one big retcon and that was Rooters retcon. uaf has dozens of retcons
Omniverse retcons mostly went against uaf retcons anyways
Onmiverse fixed the uaf retcons
I'd still recommend the good portions of Omniverse as it still a great different interpretation enough for your time.

When I watched an episode after season 2 I saw gwen saving him and ben couldn't use the omnitrix because it was covered by some metal and last season he used it without touching it so I thought oh he is an impostor or decoy or something but no
Also I agree vilgax was botched this season before he was like darkseid or thanos if that was a different character the same species as vilgax that would've been pretty cool
Honestly it's a shame, even as a kid I hated the inconsistency of this season and ultimate alien, but man I remember it being better than this. Guess I won't be rewatching ever, but I'm glad you did this series.

Good Ole Big Ben~ TOP TEN ANIME DEATHS
1.Lowarts hope for the series!
She's been all doey eyed at the *other* megalomaniac who tried to kill her and Ben on several occasions. At that point, it's in character for her
honestly this is hilarious and i love it
I feel like season 3 was all about the fact that someone was like “alien force isn’t enough like the original. I miss the bratty Ben and the evil Kevin” and so they doubled down and made this.

IMO Ultimate Alien season 1 is very enjoyable, but then it gets progressively worse again like AF. I personally love the series though, through its highs and lows.
OG Vilgax = 2003 General Grievous
AF Vilgax = TCW General Grievous
That's such a perfect comparison 😭
I get what you mean about season 3, but please cover Omniverse! It has my fav character Paradox as well
The retcons are insane
I would have been way more surprised if you'd said you were continuing after this season. It's been a great series of videos regardless!
@@Rannos22 I'd say that show and the DCAU is way better than Ben10 would ever be dealing with actual dark topics and characterization too
Idk wven on a recent rewatch of ben 10 i found it pretty fun and enjoyable.
Now the last shot is ben 10 omniverse
ACCURATE BEN VOICE LINE AT THE END LMAO!
That was a quick period between reviews, I was expecting another few days before there was another Ben 10 upload.

This has been such a wild ride
OG is superior. The animation was weird along with retcons. Wasn't really serious, which is inconsistent with the older shows
Yeah Original Ben 10 is the best
No, Omniverse is a filler parody.
Vilgax attacks should of been season 3 which should of also been a movie, but make vilgax as difficult as he was in the beginning

@@randomturd1415 sadly. Lowart L
I think a little imagination and some retrospect could fix the show when it's ultimately adapted in live action.
Well, I can say you took it well. Well for who is a different question.
