The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

Who’s a player you’d like to see included in this series??
NOTE: If you’d like to see the other videos in the series so far, here is a link to the playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLQwPRuZFpEDDpmtEsyezyDvn-AzZrNTem.html
If you haven’t already, Ron Harper and Jason Richardson would be great additions to the list
-Xavier McDaniel
-Jeff Hornacek
-Mitch Richmond
-Jeff Malone
George McGinnis
If you haven’t already you should do Bob love, Jerry Stackhouse, Clyde Lovellete, Lou Hudson, Jerry Sloan, Zelmo Beaty, Sam Jones, and Tommy Heinson
You should do Redd Kerr, Larry Foust, and Ed Macauley
Baron Davis, Bernard King, Drazen Petrovic, Michael Ray Richardson, David Thompson
I haven't heard Drazen Petrovic in forever
He did Baron
@@johannhartel9477 thank you, I'll go and watch B Diddy now (yes they called Baron that lol)
Juwan Howard, Cliff Robinson, Jerome Kersey, Eddie Jones, Steve Smith, Glen Rice
David Thompson is so underappreciated. Dude was a monster averaging 27 a game.
Ben Gordon's performance in the first round of the 2009 playoffs vs that iconic Celtics team is one of the most incredible things I have ever seen.
him and salmons foreal
I remember Ben Gordon 💀
Bro I remember being 9 years old watching that series thinking we had the next Kobe the way he was ballin in that series 🤣
Ben Gordon and Kirk Heinrich were an enjoyable duo.
I was at the game that went to triple ot that series. The best experience I’ve ever had a sports events
Eddie Jones.... The most underrated Laker of all times to influence so many after him.
I knew I’d find another Eddie Jones fan.
Paul Westphal, Gus Johnson, Maurice Stokes, Al Jefferson, Nate Thurmond, Jack Sikma, Kevin Johnson, Mark Price, Byron Scott
Could luck with Maurice stokes sadly most have never heard of him or care too. It's a shame I don't know why most fans have little to no interest in history.
What saddens me the most about Walt Frazier being forgotten was that he is easily a top 5 point guard but because of the insane competition since his playing day and his relatively unimpressive box stats you almost never see him even in the top 10!
I’m a Knicks fan and I love Clyde but he’s not a top 5 PG. Magic, Curry, Isiah, Oscar, and Nash are better. Definitely an argument for top 10 tho
@@chrilpy I appreciate the honesty. For me it comes down to preference in regards to Point Guard. While I think Steph is a better all time player and especially a better scorer I would say Clyde is a better point guard because of how Steph's playstyle transcends position. I like to think of Walt Frazier alongside Oscar Robertson as a prototype for Point Guards like Isiah who can dominate by dropping 30pts 4ast or 8pts 16ast.
I don't have a static top 5 point guards and I am always open to changing it but I would go with:
Magic > Isiah > Oscar > Frazier > Kidd
(My subconscious just greatly prefers Kidd over Nash)
I also would have put West in there but he runs into the same situation of Curry where his playstyle transcends position and feels very hard to rank.
@@Mattulaakwhat is bro cooking
@@MattulaakGary Payton to me between Kidd and Oscar
Stevie Franchise and Ben Gordon are definitely two players the streets will never forget
I think George McGinnis should be on this series. He is one of the most underrated players ever.
Mitch Richmond needs to be a part of this series.
So does Mahmoud Abdul Rauf.
Kevin Johnson probably deserves a look, too.
So glad you gave some love for Gilmore. Man that guy was badass
This series is going to be amazing. You are going to highlight players that people don’t think about anymore. Thank you!!
Spencer Haywood need to be talk about. Bill Walton’s and Ty Lawson
Hubie Brown once said Artis Gilmore was the Wilt Chamberlain of the ABA
If you ever do B again you should include Bob Love, I’ve never heard anyone give him the props he deserves
Bob Love is a great choice. His teammate with the Bulls, Chet Walker, also would be a great choice.
Michael Finley was just an awesome player!!!
As the H is approaching, it would be nice to give some love to Derek Harper. Probably the best player that never made an All-Star team.
Wow I would have never guessed he hadn't made an allstar team. Loved watching him, Mark Aguirre, and Rolando Blackman on those late 80s Mavs.
Baron Davis, Shawn Marion, Big Dog, Al Harrington
Bro, I LOVED this video!!
Please highlight: Mitch Richmond, Byron Scott, Chris Mullin, Bernard King, George Gervin, Xavier McDaniel, Chris (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf) Jackson and Nate "Tiny" Archibald
Not me seeing the title and thinking it was Guards and Forwards lol.
2:07 Walt "Clyde" Frazier deserves his own video on how great he really was. He's no worse than the 6th greatest point guard of all-time.
Yes indeed
I love this channel. I remember reading old nba books highlighting the very players in this vid specifically Greer and Dr dunkenstien.
4:37 That stat line!!! MY GOSH!!!!! 10:37 at 6'4", look where he takes off from. GEEEEEEEEEZ!!!!!!
That game was in a Magic Johnson DVD set a while back. It seemed to be only there because of the way Magic celebrated the win, jumping around and smiling like they'd just won the championship, while Kareem and everybody else were like, dude, it's only the first game of the season. But World B. Free was what really made in impression on me in that one. He was a MONSTER.
Can't wait to hear about Stephen Jackson, Jerry Stackhouse, and Michael Redd. I hope Amar'e also gets a shout. Like, I really think folks have already forgotten about him, and it's tragic.
ML carr, Lionel hollins, Bailey Howell, Maurice stokes, Charlie scott, Bob Dandridge and Earl Cureton
Love the concept for this series. These are the videos that I link to my young nephews.
Fin, Clyde, Franchise, Free, Gilmore, Goodrich, Greer, and Griffith are forgotten legends.
Thanks for reminding me of Gordon and Granger. We all tend to forget....
To be included in this series: I think you've already done a video on George Mikan.... and as the first GOAT candidate could he really be underrated? Does he pass the eye test? YES and no. On accolades alone, he is by far the most underrated player in NBA history. You recently did a video on AC Green.... I love AC! Other players include Bob Freaking Lanier, Bob McAdoo and Spencer Haywood, Austin Carr, Bill Laimbeer, Bill Sharman and Sam Jones, heck... even KC Jones, Chris Webber (I don't like him, but he was a monster! I feel the same way about Rasheed Wallace.), Lou Hudson and Bob Pettit, Dolph Schayes (was NBA all time leading scorer for five minutes, iirc), Glenn Rice, Vlade Divac (I love Vlade), Horace Grant, Andrew Toney, Avery Johnson (defined tenacity in SA before Manu), Downtown Freddy Brown, Jeff Ruland, Cedric Maxwell, the Paxson brothers, the Grant brothers, the Van Arsdale brothers, the Wilkins brothers, the King brothers... and look at the 1981 Draft, after Thomas you get Aguirre, Williams, Woolridge, Johnson, Chambers, Blackman, King, Tripucka, Nance, Ainge, and a ton of contributors!
I am grateful for this series. Thank you very much.
Griffith had one of the coolest nicknames I've ever heard
Definitely gonna be watching all of this series. I’m a relatively new NBA fan (3 years or so) and have done a lot of research about the NBA through channels like you and Clayton Crowley’s GOATs series.
... "But the truth is THEY JUST DON'T KNOW ABOUT BASKETBALL HISTORY"
Mr. Arnett 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Jonny!
Bob Dandridge, Connie Hawkins, Earl Monroe, Andrew Toney, Jamaal Wilkes, Mark Aguirre.
Bernard King, Jeff Malone, Mitch Richmond, Dale Ellis, Fat lever, Mark Price , Tom Guggolita, Rolando Blackman, Terry Cummings, Mark Aguire, Sean Elliot, Reggie Lewis, Mike Mitchell, Nate Thurmond, Kelly Tripuka, Jim Paxon, Alvin Robertson, Craig Hodges, Larry Nance, Ricky Pierce, George Mccloud
This list is 🔥
@tristanphipps2458 thank I had more suggestions
great series
I'd love to see some guys like Monte Ellis, Detlef Schrempf, Vin Baker, Mitch Richmond, Tim Hardaway Sr, Alonzo Mourning, Robert Parish, John Starks, Dell Curry, Michael Thompson, Kurt Rambis, Horace Grant, and Baron Davis.
I watched Game 7 of the 1994 NBA Finals between Houston and New York recently. Sam Cassell as a rookie impressed me, and I remember how good he was later in his career. It seems criminal that he only made one All-Star Team!
Maurice Cheeks, Mookie Blaylock, Bill Walton, Larry Johnson and Mugsy Bouges would be nice mentions in the series.
Yes please! Loved the topic! KEEP THEM ROLLING!!
It is an invaluable information as it helps us build the pieces that make up the big picture for any era.
It helps us actually better evaluate the level of competition and talent per era.
I would go as far as to say that it would be perfect if you were to do a such a video per era!
Toni Kukoc, Sasha Danilovic, Detlef Schrempf, Alan Houston, John Starks, Dan Marjerle, Joe Dumars, Rony Seikaly, Antawn Jamison, Sam Perkins, Elden Campbell, Eddie Jones, Anthony Mason, Cuttino Mobley, Nick Anderson, Horace Grant, Rik Smits. I could go on and on ahhhh!! I better stop! Enjoy your videos so much, thank you!
I knew like half of them (even though i haven't realized how good they were) because of 2k😅
Brandon Jennings, DeMarcus Cousins, Ron Harper, Derrick Coleman, Mark Eaton, Bonzi Wells (that one playoff run that got him the deal)
You're absolutely nailing it with this series
Benard King, George Gervin, Alex English 😎
So glad someone gave Artis Gilmore a shout out
Was so disappointed that he wasn't included in the NBA 75 list 😕
Mychal Thompson and Nick Van Exel are good shouts
Bernard King, Brad Daugherty, Maurice Lucas, Walter Davis, Dan Issel, Larry Kenon, Fat Lever, Rick Smits, Dale Ellis, Larry Johnson, Derrick Coleman, Buck Williams, Marvin Webster, Terry Porter, Roy Tarpley, Vin Baker, Dave Cowens, Calvin Natt, Kevin Willis, Joe Barry Carroll, Mychal Thompson, Eddie Johnson, Reggie King, Xavier McDaniel, Clifford Robinson, Bob Dandridge, Johnny Moore, Antonio McDyess, Andrew Toney, Shareef Abdur-Rahim.
Here are just 30 to start)
Shawn Marion, Benard King, Mark Jackson, Bob Mcadoo, Mitchell Richmond, Tiny Archibald
I love this series, keep this up! There are loads of NBA players that deserve more attention like this ❤
Just wanted to say that I thought I had been paying homage to the older generations by watching highlights. It was you that motivated me to start watching full games from back in the day. Born in ‘01, currently watching a 1993 Orlando Magic, Chicago bulls game from start to finish. I think it would be really cool if you made a video on Scott Skiles. I’ve been looking for his Orlando Magic highlights, but there are only a select few on UA-cam, aside from his 30 assist game.
This has nothing to do with his career, but i love Griffith just because, in a 2K simulation with the Kings last year, he helped my team winning a championship when he was 35, 74 overall, averaging 13 points in 10 minutes during playoffs...I'll never forget him💜
JERRY WEST IS A SUPER UNDERRATED PLAYER A LOT OF PEOPLE MY AGE DONT KNOW ABOUT💯🙏🏾🙏🏾
Guy Rodgers would be a good one. Probably the second best facilitator of the 1960s, 2x assist champion (regularly finished just behind Big O), 4x all-star, and one of Chamberlain's best forgotten teammates.
dave debusschere, paul westphal, fred brown, george mcginnis, antonio mcdyess, tom gugliotta, jamal mashburn, terry cummings, bob dandridge, jack twyman, saunas marciulionis, calvin murphy, jason richardson, derrick coleman, dan majerle, shareef abdur rahim
Danny Grange was my favorite he was the only player to increase his scoring by five points every year for like five straight years
A guy who could've made this video is Harvey Grant. We all remember Horace Grant from the first Bulls 3-Peat, playing with Shaq and Penny in Orlando and then was a role player on the 2001 Lakers. His identical twin Harvey, Jeramy's dad averaged 18 points per game a few times.
Truly appreciate hoop vids like this💯🏀
I gotta nominate Buck Williams for this list. A monster on the glass who played hard physical defense but still could occasionally show some finesse at the rim too. Plus he had one of the greatest Nike posters ever on the one he did with Terry Porter and Jerome Kersey (RIP).
Make something about Allen Iverson, Shawn Kemp. Vince Carter, Charles Barkley in this style!!!
From someone from Cleveland: Brad Daughrety (not on your D list) and Larry Nance.
Brad was a future HoF Center who arguably should be in just based on his stats, but back injuries in his 20s ended his career. Larry Nance is known for winning the first dunk contest over Dr. J, but he was a really good defensive player, and during his career held the record for most blocks by a Power Forward across their career.
Thank you, for Workd B. Free. He was unguardable
Calvin Murphy is a 5’9 Hall of Famer who isnt talked about as much. He averaged 25, 5, 3 per game in his best statistical season while also being named an All-Star. Thats pretty impressive for only being 5’9
Man you snapped putting Ben Gordon in here! My earliest memories as a basketball fan was watching the Baby Bulls give the East hell in the mid 2000s. Ben Gordon was a problem ✊🏽
As a Bulls fan i really always want to push recognition of Ben Gordon, Luol Deng, and Kirk Hinrich. They were studs whose careers kind of took downturns prematurely. They were the reason the Bulls became competitive but they were shipped off one by one in order to try to make room for a star free agent that never came. Had they stayed together with Rose the bulls might have had a legit shot to win something. Instead they all kind of got screwed and were not utilized the way they should have been.
everyone should know Bob Lanier. he’s the most underrated and under appreciated player ever
I was hoping you'd get back to this one
Awesome video, Jonny! This video brought some nostalgia for me. I remember Francis and Finley and having watching them in the 2000s (especially when Francis and Yao played together and Finley in both his days in Dallas and San Antonio). It was great learning about Frazier, Free, Gilmore, Goodrich, and Greer too. I heard of them, but did not know much, so it was awesome to learn more from your video.
It annoys me also how some fans see 80s NBA players as "plumbers". It's ridiculous and your example of Griffith is excellent.
This is a fun series. I don't remember if I suggested this, but I think if you could talk about Peja Stojakovic and Bob Pettit.
Have a nice week, Jonny 😊!
As I recall Michael Finley did a solid defensive job on Jordan in Suns vs. Bulls, February 6, 1996. Finley fouled out and got pretty frustrated about it, but Jordan only shot 9 for 22 that game, and the Suns (despite having an off year and finishing 41-41) were one of the few teams to beat the Bulls that season. (And because I can't resist pointing this out, Rodman got 6 points and 14 rebounds that game. Barkley got 35 and 16.)
Andrew Toney should absolutely make this list.
Glad you're continuing this! Was starting to wonder... ;)
Bob Petit needs a major shout. Jerry Lucas Nate Thurmond
-Mitch Richmond
-Xavier McDaniel
-Jeff Hornacek
-Jeff Malone
nevermind, you already have Mitch on How Good Was... Playlist
Please keep doing this series
Elmore smith! Has the record for most blocks in a game (17)
Of all people I’ve never heard anyone discuss Mike Mitchell! First ever spurs all star, absolute bucket 🔥
JA: "These players deserve more respect"
also JA: "He was basically discount Tracy McGrady" 😂
Lmao. I mean, TMac was next level though, so I wouldn’t take it personally 🤣
Walter Davis, Scott Wedman, Mark Eaton, Kyle Macy, Otis Birdsong, Bobby Jones, Fred Brown, Gus Williams, Sidney Moncrief, Mookie Blaylock
I think Bernard king would be a good player for this list, people have heard his name but they don’t truly know why he was good 😊
Wasn't Bernard one of the first players to successfully come back from an ACL tear?
@@homerthompson416 indeed he was, very tough and dependable dude
"Stumpy" was also the key for LA on drafting Magic......
I honestly this series was started a bit ago
But we’re back 🎉
I would like a stand alone video on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf because he has such a interesting career
Mike Mitchell, Bob Love, Jerry Sloan, Rudy Tomjanovich, Austin Carr, John Drew, Tom Chambers, Cedric Ceballos, Cedrick Maxwell, Dan Majerle, Jamaal Wilkes, Tayshaun Prince, Detleff Schrempf, Arvydas Sabonis, Gerald Wilkins, Bill Cartwright, BJ Armstrong, Buck Williams, Don Buse, Bob Lanier, Billy Cunningham, George McGinnis, Billy Knight, Rafer Alston and Lenny Wilkens would be 🔥
Oh man Artis Gilmore is the nicest guy in the world if you meet him off the floor. But my dad played volleyball against him at a BBQ for Spurs fans in the 80s and took a couple of spikes off the face going against him haha. If he's that competitive in a friendly volleyball game can't imagine how nasty he'd be to go against in an NBA game.
I'm glad you had much more than the guys pictured in the thumbnail.
Why did you start with these letters though? I thought you said you were starting alphabetically. Either way.
I'd recommend Al Jefferson, Wes Unseld, Robert Parish, Danny Ainge, Paul Westphal, Walter Davis, Connie Hawkins, Andrew Toney, David Thompson, and Sam Jones as some others you might possibly cover.
goated series
🎉❤
Love the idea
I have a newfound appreciation for Hal Greer and Darrell Griffith. I knew nothing about these guys before this video.
I’d love a deep dive on Kirk Hinrich.
Orlando Woolridge, Sidney Moncrief, James Posey, Terry Cummings, Dennis Johnson, Andrew Toney, Tom Chambers
Bobi jones, boston strangler, danny ainge, worthy, ginobili, scola, zo mourning, rik smits, detlef shrempf, brad doughrety, mark price , chris mullin, dennis johnson
One thing that wasn’t mentioned about Hal Greer is that he is the Sixers’ all-time scoring leader.
Nate Thurmond should be in this also
and keith van horn, juan howard and christian laetneer but mostly their collge careers
I'm glad to see my great uncle Gail Goodrich get the recognition he deserves.
Elgin Baylor and Bob petitt should be on the next list
Maybe AC Green or Skywalker would be good additions
Video idea: can you do a top 10 or 5 best retirement classes if they were actually teams? Like 2016 retirement class would have Kg, Kobe and tim duncan and the 2019 class would have dirk, dwade and tony parker 🦍
Walt Frazier outfit in that photo is hard as hell
Bob Lanier and Bobby Jones
You should definitely talk about bingo smith, he’s my grandpas favorite player of all time
Detlef Schrempf. Give him some love!
I know the superstars in this group have been forgotten to an important extent, but their superstar status can't and just hasn't been damaged because of that. It doesn't matter if that many people don't remember or know them. It's like if you wanted to talk about them because of them being forgotten, they should be talked in a separate series. But I get mixing them up with players with less of a superstar status makes the video more interesting.
Examples to note:
- Walt Frazier - he was so good, and relevant to one of the best championship squads of all time, that one feels inclined to think Payton palids in such a comparison; even though I understand Payton was pretty good, and that Frazier may be getting the benefit of the legendary status, and being 2x champion, when being considered at least a couple of levels above Payton by people like me.
- Hal Greer and the 76's team. I'm not sure if i've seen people argument that Wilt did not have star support in his '67 championship run, but i'd have been bafffled if hearing something like that, since to my understanding that team was one of the most stacked championships teams of all time. If Greer, who I understand was close to being a , if not properly a superstar, wasn't enough, you had Chet Walker and Billy Cunningham, two other outstanding players.
- Artis Gilmore is up there among the greatest centers of all time. Before the 90's era, it was well known he was part of another great era of centers along with Kareem, Elvin Hayes, and Thurmond. Also may add Unseld into that mix too.
- Gail Goodrich is a good part of what made the early 70's lakers be one of the greatest teams of all time. Same as any of the 60's Celtics stars, or the big names the 67 76ers or early 70's Knicks also had contributing to what where the most stacked champions of all time.
Ben Gordon reminded me of Vinnie Johnson coming off the bench
Please consider Connie Hawkins, the link between Elgin & the doc. Rod Strickland, & Norm Nixon, 3rd best Laker PG...all time
and lou hudson, lenny wilkensand dolph schayes, connie hawkins
