- Visiting my friend David Vaughn's incredible 2-rail O scale Nickel Plate Layout. David models the NKP at the end of steam operations in May of 1958. David's layout features sections of the former layouts of John Armstrong (the "dean of track planning"), Ed Rappe, and Ted Stepik. We'll follow one of John Armstrong's Canandaigua Southern 2-10-4's around the layout.
I apologize for the occasional shaky video. I was running the train and filming at the same time.
Very Nice!
Looks great. Great engines, great rolling stock -- all great
Agreed!
I love me some 2 Rail O-Scale!!
Same here! I'll have some more 2-rail layout visit videos in the next few months.
Thanks for sharing,beautiful layout,
Great scenes and trains look great around smooth curves.
Best
Dan Vargas
Yes they do! I love the big, sweeping curves.
Thanks, Ryan. beautiful seeing David's layout. We're hoping to get there in person someday.
Thank you, Greg! It's a beautiful layout. Definitely worth seeing in person!
Great to see a 2 rail train instead of the stupid looking 3 rail stuff..! Very nice layout
There’s quite a few of us 2-railers out there. One of my goals with this channel is to show what can be done in 2-rail, as I don’t think it gets featured enough elsewhere. Essentially everything that’s done in HO, scaled up to O. Same decoders, DCC control systems, etc.
Thanks Ryan !! Another splendid video!
Thanks buddy! Having fun and promoting this great hobby!
Awesome!! Any sections with jointed rail?
You know, there might be. Next time I’m over I’ll look.
@@ryanexpresstrains8074 10-4! Jointed rail is rare in the modeling scales, Ive done it in HO. Once I have enough space for O, Ill be doing Jointed Rail again. Everything in O looks and sounds just like the real thing
@@bobbybrisk643 I agree, you can’t beat the look and sound of O scale. I absolutely love it.
@@ryanexpresstrains8074 I cant wait to entirely switch to O just need certain cars to make the switch
@@bobbybrisk643 I don’t know if you live in the Mid-Atlantic, but the Strasburg 2-rail show is two weeks from tomorrow in Strasburg, PA. You can’t beat the deals there. The newer Atlas rolling stock, for instance, can be had for $25-35 a car. Intermountain $20-25. Steals on locomotives.
What is your grade when you go from one level to the next?
I wonder if there's any starter kits always preferred 2 rail O scale because its more realistic
Hey Shawn! Atlas made some 2-rail sets several years ago but there’s nothing currently on the market for starter sets. However, it’s fairly easy to find the components you’d need on eBay, at train shows, etc. for very reasonable prices. I’m a 2-railer who started in the hobby in 3-rail and even did HO for awhile. I have had no trouble finding the prototype stuff I want to model. I’m going to link a video that has some great info on getting started in 2-rail.
