Just got mine about 9-10 months ago and it’s so incredibly quiet and Strong. I know some folks talk smack about Mercury but there’s just nothing out there better than this work-horse. Mine is on a very heavy Tritoon and I get up to 36mph easy.
I don't think "smack" if fair, a lot of people have reported a LOT of problems, that isn't "smack". For me, I DO hope they are really, really good, but I hesitate due to past problems. Cured? I do hope so, but some companies like Honda have EARNED a reputation over many many years.
@@jimquantic Well my comment was a year ago and I had had it for 10 months at the time. I’m now near the end of my 2nd year and still not one single problem with this motor. It’s not a good motor it’s a freakin GREAT motor!

Well, that is good testimony and appreciated. I always think "if something has not gone wrong in that time period, likely it will not later". @@GeorgeBonez
Beautiful shot. Look at that thing fly! I have the same motor on my brand new tritoon. Had it out once this year before it got too cold and can’t wait for spring now. Love how easy they are to winterize.
I have a Mercury 2 stroke on my ranger bass boat. Its been a workhorse for 16 years and still going strong. I did buy a new Evinrude 4 stroke for my other aluminum boat but haven't had it out yet. I know the weight difference is something to consider.
Yes this is a workhorse. We had the same motor on our previous boat here in Norway. I really liked it, simple and easy to maintain. Have a 225hp V6 four stroke from Mercury now.
The other Mercury in this video has over 2000 hours on it now and has never really been maintained right. He refused to let me do a follow up video as he doesn't want his clients to know how high of hours it has. Goes to show how far Mercury has come!

I got that same motor on my 22ft tritoon still trying to learn how much to trim the motor up at certain speeds but I'm very impressed with the Mercury 150 Fourstroke.
I never knew what the exact trim was for this motor and boat. I always stared with it all the way down then trim up once on plane. You could tell if you were doing good or bad by where the water spray was and what the speed was doing.
My opinion, one of the most bullet proof motors Mercury EVER made. Yes, I have owned in-line 6’s, V6’s 2, and 4 cylinders and loved them, but I still stand on my statement.
I have one on my suntracker tritoon, 750 hours, only an alternator replacement at 450. $200 and 15 min back up and running. Hope to run it to about 1500
@@Capt_Billy ; well there is big aluminum block with a Schrader valve on it (Labeled MERAB CHJ, I think it’s the fuel control guts) that has a rubber hose (drain line) that leaves the top of this unit and exits via a bulkhead fitting in the bottom of the cowling between the transom and the motor. Had it in once during the warranty period and the fixed it (?). It’s happened twice more but seems to stop on its own eventually. There is never any gas inside the cowling it just dumps it out and it runs down the motor mount and into the water or on the ground if your flushing it. If you have the problem you WILL smell it. The 60 came out way before the 150 so yours probably won’t have this issue.
Looking at a boat that has this motor and noticed it would trim and tilt all the way up on the trailer but under power on the lake it would only trim up maybe 1/4 of the way. I couldn’t fully trim the motor up and would only do maybe 5000rpms Got any thoughts?
With any boat full trim while at full throttle will make the boat porpoise. You have to find that sweet spot where the boat is smooth and the RPM is maxed. Although its not recommended to go full throttle at all times. Takes to much gas and can blow the outboard eventually.
@@Capt_BillyI understand how to trim up the motor, but it’s not currently getting to max rpm’s. The trim will only go up about 1/4 of the way and then it stops like it hit a limiter and won’t physically lift up anymore. My last outboard I could adjust up and down completely but this one stops about 1/4 of the way rather than allowing me to get up to max operating rpms. Believe I should be getting up to about 5800-6000 rpms rather than 4800-5000 give or take. Wasn’t sure if there was some special button on the controls or something that would allow to trim up higher or if there was an issue w the boat.
