I was so excited when I heard "Jupiter". We played the very section they used when I was in 8th grade band. I fell in love with the song. One of my favorite pieces of all time. Gustav Holst was an amazing composer.
That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen! As an ardent follower of the U.S. space program, hurrah to the OSU Marching Band. What an honor for all Ohioans who have ventured forth into the void to explore all to be found there. This presentation crosses all collegiate allegiances, for at the end of the day, we all root for the same team, the best ever formed in the history of man: The United States of America!!!
Thanks for posting handmrow! As an M-Row Alumni (03-06), I really appreciate your videos of each show! My dad always videotaped my shows and it really warms my heart that you are such a devoted parent, taping your child's shows! Thanks for helping me reminisce of my time in TBDBITL! GO BUCKS!!!!
This show was fantastic! I was tearing up throughout the show, but the tribute at the end to John Glenn, Neil Armstrong, and the crews of the Challenger and the Columbia really did it for me. Proud to be a Buckeye!
Thank you so much for posting the marching band videos. It is definitely one of my weekend highlights when I can experience the band no matter where I am!
It's a section from "Jupiter, Bringer of Jollity" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets." It's also been used as a tune for a hymn or two under the name "Thaxted" though the former reference seems more applicable to the show's theme, especially considering that is followed by "Mars, Bringer of War" from the same suite.
To whomever added the description for this video, with all due respect, at 5:40, that wasn't the USS Enterprise. The USS Enterprise is a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. That was the NCC-1701 Enterprise, a Federation Starship.
Pretty sure that 4:00 was intended to be looking forward to a U.S. Landing on Mars, not the moon, as the music played was "Mars, Bringer of War" from Holst's suite "The Planets".
Considering 24 of our astronauts were from the great state of Ohio (including Glenn and the late Armstrong), this is even more fitting. More than half from the Cleveland area, in case you're wondering what's so bad about Ohio to make them want to leave earth...
And what did Neil Armstrong say when he stepped on the moon? Let me refresh your memory, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." That's it. MANKIND.
"Let me offer lesson No. 1 about America : All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins. And children, if your parents haven't been teaching you what it means to be an American - let 'em know and nail 'em on it. That would be a very American thing to do." - Reagan
it's not the flag of the netherlands. they just put out the red white and blue because it is the same colours as the american flag. they use that banner a lot in america.
Its not because it was an American that stepped on the moon, it was a human. I feel that people over look the fact that it wasn't just America achieved something great, but the human race as a whole.

I'm in the Michigan Marching Band, and this show is awesome! Well done OSUMB!
I plan on going there because I plan to major in trumpet and I love the marching band that I am in right now
Loving the Holst! What an awesome performance!!
It is from The Planets by Holst, but it is Mars not Jupiter.
Thank you! I played that in an orchestra last year. I knew it was familiar.
they never cease to amaze me
@nsccpo2 I think you'll find that what they play was actually used in Star Trek The Motion Picture when you first see the Enterprise.
To whomever added the description for this video, with all due respect, at 5:40, that wasn't the USS Enterprise. The USS Enterprise is a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. That was the NCC-1701 Enterprise, a Federation Starship.
The ship is the 'USS Enterprise' in Star Trek, as well.
Why would someone dislike this? This everyone, is genius.
Pretty sure that 4:00 was intended to be looking forward to a U.S. Landing on Mars, not the moon, as the music played was "Mars, Bringer of War" from Holst's suite "The Planets".
The song at 2:20 is I vow to Thee My Country
Props to their use of "I vow to Thee, my Country" - lovely hymn.
Gives me chills every time I hear it.
Love the holst! Very good music, starting at 2:20, wonderfully appropriate selection. All of it is good, but I love the Holst
While I am by no means a college football fan, what an incredible marching band!
Probably accidental tribute to the Challenger disaster at 1:33.
Being 'American' is just a state of mind, brother. Anyone can be American. But it does make me proud to see this. :)
No, that is Jupiter from The Planets
Gives me chills and tears. Miss you neil
Thanks:)
Thanks for gifting this to the Cal sports bbs too, OSUMBuckeye.
Like++
It's the hymn in the middle of Jupiter from Gustav Holst's The Planets suite.
OMG! Awesomness!!! They are having too much fun out there lol :) Can't wait for the next one! So Great!
Jupiter... such an amazing....

Wow... Just Wow.
anyone know song name at 2:20 ?
I remember playing it before, but I can't remember when
Oh wow ! That's realy amazing ! Good Job !
What's the message at the end say at the top? "_____ America"?
what is the piece that they are playing at 2:35? I recognize it but don't remember it!
what are all the songs in the show. I recognize them but cant figure out the names.
Miss you, Neil. Godspeed.
That's not Neil Armstrong; it's John Glenn. They mention Armstrong and the crew of the Columbia, etc.
Holst and Star Trek in one performance? Golden.
aaahhh.. okei thanx....) and sorry for the question.. i was just curiouse..:)
what song is played at 2:20ish? i swear i have played it before
but can't remember what it is called.
I got goosebumps.
Watching this makes me want to give up on going to Harvard/Julliard and go straight there!
What is the song at 2:20? I swear I've played it before but the name is escaping me...
this deserves full time,to become a real sport.

More than half from the Cleveland area, in case you're wondering what's so bad about Ohio to make them want to leave earth...
What was the second piece they performed
@3:30 is from spaced invaders
im an Aussie...but DAMN that whole thing was very very impressive
What is the name of the song starting at 2:22?? I cant remember it's name:/
from my seat, i saw this whole thing up-side down, it looks a lot better right-side up
Wow!
Used during the movie "The Right Stuff"
"Marine, not a god-damn soldier!"
Inside John Glenn's head
"to boldly go whare no man has gone before. These are the voyages of the star trek enterprise."
Difficulty Level: Infinity and beyond.
And what did Neil Armstrong say when he stepped on the moon? Let me refresh your memory, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind." That's it. MANKIND.
armstrong diedthe 8/25/12.. and this show is at the 9/15/12... ? and armstrong is a part of the show... I DONT GET IT!!?

yeah it does

When I watch the Mars section I always think of Vanguard at the hit
In celebrating the lunar landing, when "We came in peace for all mankind", did they have to use "Mars, the Bringer of War"?
I might've gotten a little too excited when they played Star Trek the next generation theme
Dude. Me too.
Woah I'm not even American and I feel a little patriotic towards America after watching this haha
สุดยอด
wow
For what it's worth, I hope our next step into outer space is in partnership with other nations.
Its not because it was an American that stepped on the moon, it was a human. I feel that people over look the fact that it wasn't just America achieved something great, but the human race as a whole.
Jupiter. There is a ballad in the middle. Hollywood butchers it quite often in movies with their own rendition of it.
I believe that would be Jupiter from the planet suites.
There some weird thing walking all over them ghost? Try looking for it.
You call yourself AVForumsTV and you can't even tell that this IS in the correct aspect ratio? Didn't it occur to you that they shot it in 4:3?
Why do they keep showing the flag of the Netherlands with the red, white and blue.
Love hearing Gustav Holst
They have TOS Enterprise but they play TNG...Mindfuck.
It is. Good ear.
They need to do something with Skyrim next. That would be fucking awesome.
Me too.
At the beginning i nerdgasmed

Be happy that other nations are proud of the USA's accomplishment and stop with your divisive nationalist thinking.
