Simple but elegant way to connect two wires. Thanks for the video

Great technique of soldering the joint first.

I love these connectors. Used them for a boat wiring project and worked great

Excellent. I 100% agree with the pre-soldering operation. In order to have a great solder, one must heat both the solder wire AND the wires. This can't be achieved properly without pre-soldering. Thumbs up!

I've added some additional heat shrink over solder butt connectors. Not sure if it adds any strength but it does make them look a little better and protects the brittle solder joint from a bit of flex. It's worth mentioning that if I have to do this in situ and not on a bench I always use a soldering mat to protect any nearby components from heat from either a gas soldering iron or a heat gun for heat shrink. Thanks for the video!

Hi Jon, thanks for your comments. Yes a soldering mat is very useful for protecting the other stuff around from getting accidentally melted or scorched.

I was thinking the same thing about additional shrink wrap, never too safe when it comes to boating.

I wouldnt give those all in one things house room after trying them a few times. If you are going to hassle of soldering it then just buy glue lined heatshrink as its easy to burn a hole in the all in one if not careful.
Should also say that soldering in an environment with excessive vibration the solder may fail, using goue heatshrink will help stop that as you can cut the heatshrink longer and that will take the weight off the join.
My preference is to crimp the wires together with your favoured connector and then glue heatshrink over it on boats. Can be disconnected easily with a knife and then another hit of heatshrink overnit again.

I've always found relying on the solder ring a bit hit and miss. Great tip on taking the miss out of these great little bits of kit
