I just started a few days ago to learn the conjugations of a few irregular German verbs, beginning with "auf schrecken" .Cari and Janusz are so fun in this video to watch.The uses of sein and haben here have helped me a lot.
One side note and one tip: The verb is 'aufschrecken'. If you separate them its either wrong or 'auf' becomes a preposition. You don't have to learn every prefixed verb, just learn the base verb, with "aufschrecken" it's "schrecken". No matter what prefix is infront the base verb dictates the conjugation pattern. If it's 'schreckte' in first person singular Präteritum, then it's also 'aufschreckte' in first person singular Präteritum.
Thanks @@fremejoker .Although I figured the base verb dictates the form , I certainly didn't know that rule about the importance of of keeping "auf" (or "aus" etc in other verbs) together .So thanks for again for that tip
As a reminder to keep "These are separable verbs, not separated verbs." ;-) They are only separated in a main clause.

It's verb stem doesn't change

But you said it is irregular in that video.

ich finde es sehr verwirrend, dass die Beispiele mit "ihr" und "sie" (Pl) fast gleich sind. Meine Schüler haben immer Probleme damit, diese auseinanderzuhalten, aber der (der?) Voice-Over für diese zwei war wirklich ähnlich.

Hallo i dnt understand, how the helping verb " you are strong " became " du hast kraft " ??? It should be "du bist kraft " isn't it?? Am confused please help.
It would be "Du bist kräftig" oder "Du hast Kraft"! In the first case it is an adejctive, in the second a noun. 😊

How Gehen is irregular?
Eine Frage: I hear native Germans say both GEH-en and also GE-hen. So pronouncing the H seems to be what? A question of dialect? Or is it a class- or education-level marker maybe? I learned NOT to pronounce the H and mumble that second syllable out so fast that it actually sounds like I’m saying GEHN.
It seems similar to the phenomenon in English where some folks pronounce the Ts in KIT-ten and some use a glottal stop with a mumbled second syllable: KI-‘n.
The verb gehen is actually just 'gen' (long German 'e'). The 'h' is a spelling rule to mark that ge- and -en have different functions (lexeme vs. ending). The 'h' functions as an auxiliary letter. The spelling structure of the verb 'gehen' is this: "ge" (lexeme/verb stem) + "h" (auxiliary letter) + en (conjugation ending). Since '-en' is an ending and endings can change due to conjugation, 'h' is part of the lexeme/verb stem and that looks like you know it 'geh-'. Most h's that are preceded by a vowel are silent and often a pronunciation marker for long vowels. You have three options to pronounce 'gehen' -> gen, ge-en or ge-hen. First person singular has two option 'ge-e' or 'ge-he'. 'ge-hen' is usually super clear pronunciation, just. like. this. example. right. here. Whether you prefer gen or ge-en, it's not a level marker.
By the way the same goes for sen, len, wen, flen etc. Have fun to figure out which verbs I mean. ;-)
Tob ias Danke! Pronouncing the H just doesn’t sound right to my ear. But my ear is an anglophone one and has no standing to express an opinion. Even so, it likes GEN or GE-en. I’ve just never understood why... sigh...
Let's use PC terminology: Your brain has no partition for German phonetics. You need to install one. ;-) Surround yourself with much German as possible and you will accustom yourself to German phonetics.
