Proud dad moment
God damn right
I would like to know the name and information of the Shop that modified the wheels for the Lexus , please provide me with the contact information ....
Need an SA and Straight Pipes collab!!
@@lawrenceheath5198 it's in the wheel reveal video...
This show is just as good as Saturday morning cartoons.
I always finish my Saturday breakfast and Gears and Gasoline, and Speed Academy upload a video. Happy af Saturday mornings!
ACME ACADEMY !!!
For me it is great to wake up on a Sunday morning to watch this series (I am in Western Australia) Brings the same excitement of Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid.
The suspense waiting for the next episode!!!
Of course Pete owns a smoke machine. Essential for any BMW owner.
Zing! 😆
The BMW is the other smoke machine he owns
@@christopheraustin3324 you sir, just made my Saturday a little brighter :D
Well Subie owners have their own miniatyre smoke machines.
And yet, it’s the Lexus that’s smoking.
It's still so quiet at idle, but definitely has some attitude when you feed it the go-go juice! Well done fellas!
That's the UZ for ya. Calm when it needs to be but scream when it wants.
def a tasteful mod, not obnoxious.
I’d say that’s a muffler delete, still has resonators so not quite a full straight pipe but it purrs really nice 🙌🏼
For sure, a true straight pipe setup would delete the resonators and cats too maybe? Anyhow, it's fun to say we've straight piped it 😆
You're right, but I reckon this is better than a full straight pipe, that would be crazy loud and drone way too much
@@helplmchoking the comment was about not being straight piped bud..
@@PeterFeltersnatch852 yes? And I'm agreeing that this is not really straight piped, but that I feel it's a better option for this car
@@helplmchoking 👍
The Lexus factory service manual specifies a stack of champagne glasses on the hood while the engine is running to check for proper smoothness.
Actually that was a ls400 on a chassis dyno going 140 mph.
@@jgranger2002 That was a beautiful ad for a legendary car! My dream is to find a non molested LS400 and just cruise. The LS430 is a nice step up though.
@@RandallJT84 They are all over the salvage yards here in so cal. I get an alert about every other day. Put the word out and you'll likely find your car sooner than later. Snag one as it comes in. usually people scrap them because the timing belt or starter went out, and is a $1200 job at an indie shop. noninterference engine, easy to get back on the road.
Each weld shrinks the total length of the piping by about 1mm, even when there’s zero gap. That’s the rough rule we go off at work when doing piping for the dairy industry- when triclovers and RJTs don’t seal anymore it’s usually due to that shrinkage.
If the fit up isn’t perfect it’ll be more.
That gives you your 5-7mm.
Good to know and thank you.
Not sure why but that outro music is PERFECT for the fact that this is a Canadian build shop show.
That exhaust hanger tool is worth every penny. The longest part of catback installs for me is always the god damn hangers.
DP now The Flexus has morphed from Grandpa to badass Japanese muscle!
The "....still smokin' like a hippie" comment absolutely killed me. >X-D
Wow. I was also surprised at how understated and civilized the straight-pipes sounded. Nice job with welding Pete.
Pete and the worlds smallest nut.
Come for the cars, stay for the giggles.
Please do a price breakdown at the end for the modifications! This is an awesome build!!
We will do a full price breakdown on both builds once we're done.
I love you guys. Finally someone do episode about the greatest car in the world.
Please straight pipe the m5 build. They sound incredible.
Hi Fellas, I have two 3UZ engines in the shed (2001 and 2005 vintage) and I just measured to verify the injectors from both engines and they are like yours @ around 45mm. All the 3UZs and the late 1UZ with VVTi (1997+) use the same 'pink' injectors which are rated @ 275cc/min.
Interesting. Are your UZ's from the American market or are you Down Under?
@@speedacademydave Down under. One engine is an AU delivered LS430 (2001) and the other engine is a JDM Celsior (2005) engine that I imported myself. I checked online earlier (I use www.japan-parts.eu/ for my part numbers) and the part numbers for all Toyota/Lexus markets are all the same for all the 3UZ and 1UZ vvti engines. Toyota part catalogues have 4 markets - US, JP, EU and GR (GR = General and includes Australia and other small markets). I wonder if the maker used a first gen 1UZ injector?
@@marcop3517 I bet you're right, probably initially designed for the early 1UZ injectors since those engines have the big boy rods and would have been the logical starting point for supercharging. Travis at Elate Mfg has been amazing to work with, though, he's solved every problem we've come up against and in the process we're all learning how to fit up a M112 to the stock fuel system on a 3UZ.
We got to the bottom of it, we had a discrepancy in our aftermarket upper injectors seals which I now believe were supplied to us incorrectly, this meant that the original rail spacers we designed were around 3mm too tall resulting in the injectors not seating correctly . We’ve now made shorter spacers and test fitted them with known OEM injectors seals off another engine, everything seats perfectly now so glad to say this is sorted going forward!
@@elatemfg Gotta love new products! You guys are doing a great job ironing things out, hopefully people realize that.
I watch wayyyyyyyy to much UA-cam but that's another point. Your channel is quickly becoming my favourite. I watch your videos as soon as they come out. Where in other channels I'm not in a rush
Thank you!
Oooh, that tone is just perfect for a Lexus, Nice
I am enjoying your videos because you guys show the problem solving well. Many car videos skip over certain steps or only show the final points. It’s nice to see the middle stuff and the full process.
I'm always a fan of straight pipes on a V8 so long as it's dumped under the trunk or before the rear axle. Using the ground to amplify the sound while being able to use your car as a driveway blower after mowing is always fun too
Seeing your injector leaks brings back memories! I had exactly the same on my GS430 when I had the heads off- except it was a perished injector seal and I had to make my own smoke test machine. Really liking what you’re doing with the LS - definitely an under-appreciated car!
So I have to say I am absolutely glad I you guys did the exhaust. I have been looking online at some forums and found different ways to do the exhaust, but this way is the sound I was looking for. Plus I am in Upstate NY so the salt on the rust is a problem here as well (thank goodness I have a California LS). Also, I want to keep my LS classy sounding(not over powering), but still have enough to let you know... Definitely the next add for my Flexus 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
Plus... PT if you wanna fab a few of those pipes I am totally down as a customer 🤙🏻
A MAP gas plumping torch was one of the best purchases I've made for the shop. Helps so much to just give a nut a bit of heat, especially when it's on the exhaust. Hauling out the Acetylene torches can be a bit of a chore.
You guys make me want to do more to my LS430. It’s just my daily and all I really have done to it is PBM coilovers and the muffler delete like you guys.
Best thing about Saturday mornings is tuning into a new Speed Academy video. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing and hearing this car drive.
The exhaust gives a great idle rumble, and on throttle sounds stout but still civilized and livable! Nicely done!
That sounds incredible, it’s not too intrusive but has a beautiful rumble 👌🏻
3:10 I was glad to see you took care of that hoodie pull cord in the next shot. 😁
lol I hate hoodie pull cords. I end up cutting them out of all my hoodies.
Damn, i love this channel.
Did this to my gs400, best lil mod ever!
Alternative for the smoke machine: compressed air and a spray bottle with soapy water will bubble where there are leaks. Got this from a Jafro episode. Worked really well.
You can diy a smoke machine for less than $10.
Great tip, Jeff. A mechanic buddy of ours suggested the same, but then Pete wouldn't get to flex with his smoke machine ;+
I've always just hit the car with some brake cleaner while running and whenever the idle changes, you've found your leak.
UZ's always sound so good with some exhaust work!
I’m debating to do mine does it matter mileage? No right? As long as it’s running good it’s only sound enhancement right?
@@gabegarcia7779 nah, you won't hurt anything by opening the exhaust up. Go for it! 🤘
@@erenolewis7043 no check engine light ?
@@gabegarcia7779 o, I'm no expert on Toyota products. I can say very unlikely but you might want to check some UZ forums to make sure. Usually the only time you trigger a check engine is by messing with the cats or removing them.
@@erenolewis7043 thank you brutha
That really sounds good, and not too loud.
The nut is supposed to stay on the exhaust clamp, it's welded on. The bolt comes out the top of the clamp.
What I was thinking they are tack welded to the clamp
Yup, we figured that out just as we removed the last bolt lol
I just put the stock exhaust back on my 06 LS430 because there was too much drone on the highway. It definitely sounded good around town though.
Surprised, I thought it would be too loud but that actually sounds pretty good
Good episode. I love the fabrication. Sorry about the rust.
This car is amazing!
Wow, the pipes sound really good!
Adult version of Saturday morning cartoons with cereal lol
That is probably the best sounding straight pipe setup I have ever heard. Not a fan of the crazy screaming sounds, this was civilized and respectful love it.
I've always liked lexus and I'm enjoying this build alot
My grandfather was a life-long mechanic in Michigan. Nothing seems to rust like exhaust hardware, and for exhaust work he'd take a chisel under the car, and simply split all the nuts to remove them. I've noticed those thin-wall exhaust fasteners on cars over the years, and I believe they are used because they are easier to split like that.
Proud GS owner, 10/10.
love a black LS430 and now make it cool for year 2023 and onwards
very nice! would love to hear the start up when doing the cold start!
That was a cold start, actually. We'll get lots more sound clips on the street and on the dyno soon.
I’ve always wanted a rwd big 4 door Lexus sedan especially in black with some big chrome rims
I feel like you guys made that way more difficult than it needed to be. Lol
Just whack the mufflers off and weld up a pipe, already lined up then.
That is a verrrrrrry nice sound! Liking it a LOT!
Im loving this build so much
Love this build series. You guys are very good and humble.
Keep it coming, thumbs up from Norway👌👍
She sounds AMAZING!😍👍❤
No annoying music this time. Well done guys!
This thing is so cool with the added Supercharger!!
Friend of mine had the same car with “FLEXUS” plates. Enjoying the build.
Very cool guys... I'm loving this series!
Wow, that sounds amazing. So deep.
Can't wait to hear the LS430 on the road with the new exhaust setup. I love these older JDM big body sedans of yesteryear. Clean example here boys!
It's so nice when you teasing each other😂, by the way if you remove the middle mufflers and keep the rear ones it'll sound more nice .
Sounds really good not too loud
thing about adding power to these cars club lexus members found that once they increased the power traction became a problem. Adding a supra differential helped a little but traction still was a problem
another quality video of the Flexus 💪🏼💪🏼 loving these vids keep them comin
I just recently bought this model of lexus, a 2001. Super excited to see that I can get some noise out of it when I start modding it a bit! 😁 I want her to purr 😍
I love this channel, you guys are great! Always a perfect saturday morning watching you guys do garage stuff with your humor
UZs and URs sound sooo good opened up.
Well done! Love the sound of the LS. This series is awesome, Great content! 👍
I'm highlighting that I'm here...3mm a size joke is, I'll show myself out. Pete seems to have a tool for anything that comes his way.
That sounds fantastic. Can't wait for the full sound clip with the supercharger fly by.
Sounds great 👍🏼
Man, this thing is sweet! Makes me want that gen of LS for myself. Always been a fan of the big Lexus.
WOW nice sound I honestly thought it was going to sound loud and obnoxious but that's a nice deep tone!
Pete the toolman - he sure loves his tools :)
Wow, that exhaust sounds awesome! Keep up the good work guys.
You guys are awesome. Love the content. Will be buying some swag in the near future 🤙
That sounds pretty good 👍
I did that mod on mine, but there was too much resonance in the cab at 2000rpm, which is where it spends most of its time on the motorway. So... I had some small straight through back boxes (mufflers) fitted. Now there’s slight resonance at 1000 revs, so.... not a problem at all in normal driving.
Hi Dan, same here at 2k resonance, what are these back boxes? Also is the overall noise level down? Thanks
Wow I’m really impressed with Pete’s fabrication. I think I’m leaning flexus now. Wipe that smurk of your face Dave. 😆
😐😂
My dad got a 2004 ls430 and he got a muffler delete and it have a unique sound that no other car has
I just use channel locks on exhaust hangers, it gets them off no trouble. One side of the jaw behind the hanger, one side on the stud. Pinch and pry, it basically does the same thing as the special tool.
That sounds pretty damned good. Quiet at idle, just loud enough but not obnoxious. Hope it doesnt drone!
my 04 gs430 has the same setup but louder, drones very bad at 2k, maybe the cats are gone, let me know if u wanna hear it. good work guys, learned a lot from u thanks!
That Lexus V8 sounds good !
My goodness she sounds so good
LS400/430s are underrated
Ohhhh that rich sound is perfect 🥰
That's a weld nut on the exhaust. That's why it stripped. The head to that bolt is on the top 12mm socket. Sounds good in the end anyway.
This LS is sick! but no way is it cooler than an E39 M5 wagon, especially in that color!
It's sounding delicious!
I'm pleasantly surprised at the sound without the mufflers😳 i was about to suggest maybe adding another set of the factory resonators to the straight sections of pipe, but clearly they are not needed. good job💪
SOUNDS SWEET
You guys have all the cool tools
Lord that sounds good
That sounds and looks amazing
I love how those tips sit, wouldn't like it sticking out more than it is now.
Sounds amazing
You made all of that look much harder than it should be/is
That’s a classy sound.
Ls has never had it so Good
Another great video, love your content guys. Can't wait to see this showdown, both cars are somewhat of bucketlist cars for me so its gonna be rad to see them road worthy.
