Thank you SO MUCH for your wonderful review of our video! It was an absolute joy to do this with Tori, as well as my long-time friends from the old music collaboration website 'Bandhub'. We do this simply for the love of the music. We are all very proud of the projects we play on, and I am very proud to present this one to everyone out there! I am so glad that you enjoyed our efforts. By the way, in answer to a couple of your questions, YES, there are trumpets on the original version, just as presented here. Also, there are THREE violin parts, recorded TWICE each for a more 'ensemble' sound - hence the six violin videos. Can't wait until you hear our next one! ❤ - Cheers! - Jimmy

So glad Tori is being discovered by so many others. I've followed her since I first stumbled across her doing little videos from her bedroom singing into her headphone microphone. She'll be singing at a Carpenters convention this weekend performing inside the same methodist church where Karen's funeral took place in Downey, CA.

Tori is actually quite conversant with the overdubbing the Carpenters did on their recordings. She has a video at her site showing how she took apart a Carpenters song and recorded herself singing the individual parts on an electronic multitrack mixing board/recorder. She's got an incredible ear. Before this video, she'd populated her site with numerous videos of herself covering not only Carpenters songs, but Olivia Newton-John and other artists. By the way, nice that you noticed her vibrato, which is extended and at a lovely pace, just like Karen's was. Can't tell you how many singers out there can't do that; they either trail off or have a frenetic wobble that isn't quite as nice as Tori's gorgeous vibrato.

Thanks Joe for being prepared to stump up your hard won funds to bring this very talented singer to the forefront as Tori deserves as much positive reaction as she can, and Mrs Realistic has done this very well. Of all the female singers who have done Carpenters covers, Tori is by far the closest to Karen by a long way and should do well in her future with a bit of support from a "Big Brother".

Beautiful reaction/review Mrs. Realistic. I’m so glad you liked it. It’s quite a production and James did so much to make it look and sound authentic and perfect. Add Tori’s vocals and you have the magic. Tori on her channel has loads of short videos with many Carpenters covers.(which she self-engineers including the harmonies) As well as Olivia, Heart, Joni, The Beatles (she sounds nothing like John, Paul, George or even Ringo!) and so many more. Her “time” is the 60-80’s and I’m here for it. She’s a Carpenters super-fan! Not bad for 20. Every time she drops a new cover I have to go back and rediscover or discover the original. She has some originals too including a Christmas song where the writers heard her and reached out for her to sing their song. One of that team wrote All You Get From Love Is A Love Song for Carpenters. So he’s familiar with a great voice! More is coming from the Jim and Tori team.

@@MrsRealisticit was mentioned in the comments and I was thinking about it. While we wait for Jim to drop the new one, there is the genesis of the collaboration. Last October Tori was challenged after uploading just a Short segment of the Bacharach/David Medley. She was challenged to recreate the entire medley! Well “Challenge accepted.” So she did it playing both vocal parts and creating all the harmonies. All she didn’t do was the music, she used a Karaoke track that Richard created for the a Japanese market. It was tempo and note for note correct. It is his “caffeinated” version. I’ll let you decide how Tori did but! Jim saw it (and maybe he can tell the full story?) early this year and felt it was great but needed “more Richard.” So he added his harmony vocals and made a split screen video. He replicated the triple tracking Tori did (as Carpenters did) and then showed it to Tori. She loved it and he then released it. Here’s a key point to look for. In Walk on By, that’s a duet! She is looking right at the camera and doing, Richard/harmony/Karen (repeat). It took me awhile to realize what she was doing, I want to make note of it. Tori has played “Richard” in all of her covers. Now she’s got Jim for a deeper more correct tone, but damn she’s good. So I’m going to go make another donation to your channel and keep the magic going.

Thank you for your sincere and insightful reaction. I heard Tori for the first time a couple of months ago and was floored. I was a teenager at the time this song came out and it was played on the radio constantly. The same goes for all the carpenter songs. Karen had what many consider to be The finest female vocals of all time. Her voice was so smooth and crystal clear, very distinctive. Tori has captured that in a way that no other female singer has in my lifetime. Karen cannot be replaced but certainly this is the next best thing and there are many more where that came from.

    Hi Mrs. Realistic!
If I can successfully post this link, I’ll go to the tip jar again. Before We’ve Only… last October (about when I was algorithm’d Tori), she was challenged and released her full cover of the Bacharach/David Medley. It was originally performed by Carpenters in November 1970 on The Ed Sullivan Show. I’m not sure if you are familiar with it. The medley is also on the 3rd album “Carpenters” the tan album. Tori made a video just covering one of the songs as a Short. A subscriber said, do the whole thing. Well, she did. She used a backing music track that was made (apparently by RC) for the Japanese, Karaoke market. The rest she did. All the voices, including RC! #Notice, in Walk On By, she looks right at the camera and does Richard, Harmonies, Karen (repeat). She edited, layered, mixed and all that stuff to make a full cover of it. Flash forward to 2024. Early in maybe January/February Jim saw that video and was essentially WOW! but he thought it needed more “Richard.” So he triple tracked his voice in harmony to her video and split screen created this video. He showed it to Tori, she loved it and he released it. A collaboration was born.
This is perfectly true to the Carpenters 1970 version. Maybe view that in prep for this? Also being familiar with Burt Bacharach and Hal David songs helps but I’m going to assume you are as you were more than familiar with Carpenters.
Enjoy this one, it’s more bouncy and Tori got some range to show off, here.

Even though The Carpenters will never be replaced or duplicated 100% either in actuality or in our minds, I do believe the recording and editing technology from then to today has advanced so much that the modern fidelity allows us to enjoy the music much more. Whatever small deficiency that today's cover artists (the great ones, that is) have compared to the original artists, it's largely compensated for by the improved recording technology. What do you think?
