The River Bain had a canal alongside. Take a photocopy of the town road layout so it won't matter if it gets wet,. Bigger towns get good walking guides to the main points of interest i.e. Readers Digest Town Tours in Britain.which you may only be able to find in a second hand shop. It has nice diagrams. Alternatively go and give your reference library something more to do than putting books back on the shelves. Try Beverly next. Horncastle was a good choice anyway -- been there myself.

Thanks for your feedback Tom, apparently the town hadn’t recovered from the earlier floods in October which is why a lot of places were closed. Other than that it was a lovely place.

Sam. thanks for your remarks. Some people get a bit defensive about contributions from Commentators. I was interested in the canal and the extensive closures on the local railway network. I had the excuse of quiet Christmases in Coningsby with short days and little to see apart from the exceptional Tattersall Castle , the mostly redundant large church adjoining and the v. old almshouses in the shadow of the church. @tomcarr1358 all comment are welcome here unless its trolling. Hardest part of this is building a community so comment away, Also the feedback about where to go next, all ideas welcome.
We travelled by car so can’t really advise on the travel network to and from the town, but once there everything was really accessible by foot.
