  • It is important to understand what we mean when we use the term "Biblical inspiration." As Christians, we must have a historical understanding of the doctrine of inspiration.

So you don’t think I should pray that more and more people see and follow her channel and be saved and learn how to be a true Christian and defend their faith? And also, I’ve prayed for many, many things bigger than this.

The crux of the gospel message is Christ and Him crucified for salvation. That to me, is indisputable. So, whether some things are not precisely accurate in transliteration by the biblical authors, as the scriptures were "inspired" and not "literal” is not what is ultimately important in this regard. Thank you Alisa for bringing clarity to this topic.

It's God's word God talks to us thru it you could say and it instructs us how to relate to God in this world - simple ethical-spiritual connotation of the idea of Scripture being - as self-attested, inspired.

    The gospel must be PREACHED...
THE lion shall lay down with the lamb...
Judge not lest ye be judged...
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you...
My people perish for a lack of understanding...
Keep reading your bibles. There is a remnant that has and is writing the word in their heart. When the famine for the word of God comes ( fully ) The Holy Spirit will give us the words to speak. The righteous are bold as a lion.
    Shalom.

All understanding is from God. All.
The Bible is those people writing down the understanding they were shown by God.

As a Christian I love the bible and been reading it since I was a little girl. To me its a book of ancient poetry on meditation, life, the universe and almost every subject one could think of. The philosophical side of the bible derives mainly from the teachings of Jesus. Inspired may be a bit too advanced, but once you begin reading it for what it is, a very human book, then it becomes a journey towards discovering the truth.

    • @Nameless-pt6oj
      @Nameless-pt6oj 2 роки тому

Inspired means God-breathed: God spoke through the human authors of the New Testament with the Holy Spirit and they wrote it down. He did it perfectly.

God's word is truth. Words are not truth. They can point toward truth but it takes the interpretation of the Holy Spirit to find the truth in those words. In Shakespeare's words, "The devil can cite Scripture for his purpose."
God is in heaven, according to Jesus' Lord's Prayer, not on earth. Likewise love is not found on the physical earth but in the hearts and mental intention of God's creation here. The kingdom of Heaven is within you, the mind of Christ, not in the world.

The Holy Spirit is called breath of God! John 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come."

I write this a sincere seeker, so please bear with me. In the scripture you site, 2Tim 3:16&17, the Greek word "given by inspiration of God" is "theopneustos". This use, for all we know, is the first time this word is used in all of Greek literature. The only other times writers use this word is in the 2nd and 4th centuries and they are referring back to this verse. (Yes, I'm a nerd, I looked them up.) My question and concern, is that wouldn't God inspire a better word than one whose meaning can only be guessed at by readers to explain the inspiration of scripture. Background: there are some 85 Greek words "coined" by Paul in the bible of which this is one.

What word would you suggest? The only way to express a new concept is with a new word. The word in question appears to be two known roots combined so that the meaning is cleat.

For a philological study of theopneustos, see the book by John Poirier: The Invention of the Inspired Text: Philological Windows on the Theopeustia of Scripture (2021). That book argues that theopneustos didn't mean "inspired" until Origen began to use it that way (in the third century). Prior to that, it always means "life-giving," and that's what it means in 2 Tim 3:16.

In the book of Judges 19 tells us how a man named Levi chopped his concubine in to pieces for disobeying him and such men were supposed to be men who obeyed Jehovah. From those who keep telling us that the entire bible has been inspired by God , I ask, what sort of a God would reside within a man who chops a woman in to pieces? As a young girl reading these accounts of horror in my KJV bible disturbed me to the point where I decided to walk away from religion and turn towards atheism. That's when I started reading books by educated Christian Scholars who reminded me that the bible is the journey of an ancient tribe known as the Israelites, and how they understood life. These Scholars also reminded me that those were times where people never knew what human rights were all about. They thought that murdering women, children and anyone who worshipped foreign Gods as opposed to God Jehovah should be killed in order to appease the Israelite tribal God Jehovah.
What kept me in Christianity and still does is Jesus, his message of universal love, peace and tolerance. I have no interest in any God or an afterlife. I don't crave one either. The words of the English mystic Venable Bede comes to my mind,
“The present life of man upon earth, O King, seems to me in comparison with that time which is unknown to us like the swift flight of a sparrow through the mead-hall where you sit at supper in winter, with your Ealdormen and thanes, while the fire blazes in the midst and the hall is warmed, but the wintry storms of rain or snow are raging abroad. The sparrow, flying in at one door and immediately out at another, whilst he is within, is safe from the wintry tempest, but after a short space of fair weather, he immediately vanishes out of your sight, passing from winter to winter again. So this life of man appears for a little while, but of what is to follow or what went before we know nothing at all.”
This is precisely how Jesus lived his life. He reminds me that my life span is very brief, and that I must live it with compassion and love.
Christianity is not a religion that gives me eternal life. Jesus never does either. All what Christianity gives me is the courage to live my brief life here on earth and welcome death fearlessly when it comes looking for me. That's all it does and that's all I need.
Everything else is just nonsense made up by Churches to control their followers.
    God bless

Why believe 2 Timothy was God breathed? It said it was God breathed? The comment religion is the one true religion, because it says so in this comment. Seems very circular. Maybe the bible is a collection of stories someone thought belonged together and God had no direct contact with any author or editor. We don't really know who the authors are for most of the bible as the authors do not name themselves.

The Bible is a whole library of old books that reflects the values and understandings of when it was written. There may be some historical references to stuff that happened as described, but given that it was gradually put together over hundreds of years, even the historical stuff is not very reliable. There's no more reason to accept what the Bible says about sex or life anymore than what it says about the universe being created in six days. Jesus main message is to forgive and forgive and forgive....If the world followed that it would be a far better place.

Except then you read the bible and it is clearly the words of human men inspired by greed and control.
