Ive watched several videos about how to plant these and out of the many Ive watched you thoroughly explain everything. You addressed all my concerns and taught me so much. I greatly appreciate you sharing. Each one teach one!!!
Very useful information! I bought my first Vanilla orchid. I put sphagnum moss around the trellis and mist them daily to give the orchid more humid conditions. The pot is on a heating mat. I hope it will flower one day!
Thank you ! I found you most Informative. You did wonderful job coordinating what you saw with explanations. I have grown my vanilla over 10 years. It has been my baby monster but never produced flowers so I haven’t had any blooms to attempt pollination and harvesting bean. This week I saw what looks like blooms coming I counted 6 today coming on! I’m so excited but nervous that something will happen. I live in south Florida until Christmas they had an open shade house with 55%shade film roof. Tornado got it. They are inside now I have shaded porch that I put them on to water them. Our temperature will be in the 50 degree nights and 70 days. Should I keep them inside this winter and make them comfortable or put them out and bring them in as needed ? The vines are probably 20-30 ft long or possibly 40 ft I measured them in 2015 at 16 ft and 20 ft They are contained with a wire hardware cloth tube in a 3 gallon pot inside a 5 gallon buckets. There are 2 only one is blooming the other I cut one branch into cuttings and sold them . I used cinnamon on the one cut I made on the vine but it’s not happy. I feel I should cut the whole plant into large cuttings and expand my number of plants that it may survive and thrive better than this state it is in now. Your experience and advice would be greatly appreciated
Hello thanks for reaching out glad you enjoyed the video. We have been trying to make a follow up but things just haven’t aligned yet. It is coming soon as I get viable flowers. Thank you.
The first one is ‘potting soil’ and then orchid bark mixed in. Remember the plant is an epiphytic vine so you really need soil when anchoring it otherwise it can grow soil less
This is excellent video. How long we need to keep the vine in pot. Do we need to change small pot to bigger and need more soil as well. Or the vine will be there for life long. Thank you.
After the new growth starts you can transplant the vine yo your desired area, but if you so choose you can leave the plant in the same pot as it is an epiphytic vine so the roots on the ground or pot do really matter much
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH thank you so much. "Epiphytes" tells everything about this plant and hence i understood now, the pot size doesnot matter. I will wait for your next videos. Namaskar from India 😊
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH so it is best for me to grow it in a large green house and transplant it via pot out side in full summer then as summer ends back in a heated green house ?
To the point and good information ... But, its says part 1& you never made a part 2 with other information I belive many would like alot more information. I personally dont need more information. Lol. Im already growing my own variegated vanilla vines.
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH No thank you for the help I've realized my vanilla plant isn't doing so great I think adding some more humidity and as you suggested adding fertilizer is a great way of boosting the health of the plant great stuff have you thought about adding melipona bees to cut down on labour plus you get valuable honey too it's a win win situation
I saw a vanilla in supermarket in desserts ails , can I use the seed in side that vanilla (from supermarket) in plant vanilla??? Greetings from Jordan 🇯🇴
Hello … the seeds from the pods at the supermarket may not be viable. The best and most effective and sure way of growing vanilla orchid is through cuttings from an active growing vine.
Thank you so much for the great information! I have a very small vanilla scion (about 6 inches tall ) that was cut from a fully mature mother plant. I’m looking forward to watching it grow for many years! 🌱🌸🕸🍀🕸🌸🌱
I love how clearly you explain everything. Thanks!

@@THEPOTTINGBENCH Thank you for responding I look forward to following your progress when you're able to share it.
How can cover to the next time if I have used backet
Same way
Very informative video! Will you mind sharing what species of Vanilla that Is? Doesn't look like Planifolia to me?
It was labeled planifolia from the source. Maybe they mislabeled it but I went with what was provided.
hi, thanks for the video
Just want to ask about the soil you used. What kind of first and second half soil you use. Thank you
The first one is ‘potting soil’ and then orchid bark mixed in. Remember the plant is an epiphytic vine so you really need soil when anchoring it otherwise it can grow soil less
Hi man, what's the shortest vine you can have and still bloom orchids?
It’s all about how thick the stems are. At least 5 feet will be enough to bloom
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH noted. Thanks

@@THEPOTTINGBENCH Can we able to grow the vine by putting root end of the vine in water (not in soil). What is your experience?
Yes you can use water as a medium
Yes saf
NIce Video, very informative... btw it says part one is there part two?
Hello,I have been trying to make a part 2 still timing for actual pollination becomes a bit challenging
Is it Hardy in winter ? Di you have to cut it back in winter or will it just come back anualy ?
It’s a very tropical plant,it will not tolerate even a little frost.
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH so it is best for me to grow it in a large green house and transplant it via pot out side in full summer then as summer ends back in a heated green house ?
Yes that will be ideal way to do this. Or just leave it the green house
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH thank you , I pray the Lord brings you blessings and watches over you . X

I will try soon as they bloom again
Great video by the way I have a question as for nutrient's is it best to spray with orchid feed when you mist the plant?
Hello thanks for stopping by. I just use general feed 21.7.7 fertilizer with a dosmatic injector
When growing vanilla orchids at home do they need to be fertilized? If so, what kind of fertilizer is best? Thanks!
Most commercially available foliar feeds will help, being epiphytic vines they’ll absorb food through the aerial roots.
@@THEPOTTINGBENCH thank you!
