  • In almost 1 and 1/2 years of being the owner of a 2009 335i I have spent a small fortune keeping it on the road. It is by far the most expensive car I have ever owned. I am in the market for a daily. What should I get?

Turbo is fun but be ready to pay for the maintenance. Also be mechanically incline and work on your own car. Paying bmw mechanics to do regular maintenance will break your bank account. That is why I have the n52 engine in my 128i. They're easy to work on, parts are getting cheaper, and no turbo to deal with.

Yes I do most of the work myself. N54 is also pretty easy to work on.

I have spent 3k on maintenance and 3k on mods in the last four years. In the last two years I have just driven it about 6 months out of the year. As a summer car it costs me $900 annually for insurance and gas.

That's why I said to you, you should have stuck with the N52 E90 --- I have had minimal issues with my 330i and it is nearly 15 years old now.

I mean you’re right in that regard but I still make over 400 hp & 400 ft-lbs tq so it’s way more exciting. High power equals more expenses. I don’t daily the 335i anymore anyway.

@@BMWE90HQ True. But I choose to compare my 330i to 90% of other lesser cars that people use as a daily as opposed to the minority that are better like the 335i. I totally agree the driving experience between the F30 and the E90 is not even close. E90 is a much more superior experience. Thanks for the sub too.

@@BMWE90HQ The thing that makes the E90 superior is its connectivity to the driver, with analog/hydraulic controls for steering, braking and throttle. Newer BMWs and other cars too have gone down the electronic way as well as that stupid start/stop technology for fuel economy.

I want to get a 335i N54 so bad but I have a couple friends with them and heard the ridiculousness they go through. My 2002 Mercedes CLK55 AMG(which I got hilariously cheap) has only costed me about $1,400 in the last two and a half years. I do a mixture of diy and Indy Shops.

    • @BMWE90HQ
      @BMWE90HQ  4 роки тому

Sorry to hear Will. Ive got a 2006 N52 325i for the last 5 almost 6 years and so far its been Toyota reliable. Im looking at a late model E92 335i. Its a great car but i think Im gonna give skip it. Probably some day gonna try an F30 340i because of the B58. Apparently its more reliable than both N54 and N55. However its out of my budget. How about an F30 for your new daily.

I think you are counting WAY too many mods as maintenance. Just my opinion. And how do you do 6 oil changes in 18 months? BTW, you might be getting oil leaks because of cheaper non-synthetic oil. The non-synthetic stuff will make it through the seals. I discovered that after letting a shop do an oil change for me. They used non synthetic. I switched to Castroil 5 w 30 Dexos advanced turbo synthetic and the leaks all stopped. I had my e90 335i for ten years before I started modding it. I was buying a new car and kept the BMW as a project car. The first thing I did before I started was take it to a good shop and have them replace all the known fault points--Coils, plugs, boost solenoid, frayed cable, water pump, handle some oil leaks, and anything else they could find wrong. All that done at once, plus an $800 set of sport cats purchased and installed was around 5k. But that 5K was way cheaper than option 2, which was getting a 370Z. And I took all the hits up front. Then I took the car home and went nuts on it in my garage for year. Twin blow off valves, charge pipe, intercooler, exhaust cut out, sprint booster, stage 2+ tune, coilovers, tinted, chrome delete, buffing out paint defects, fixing paint chips, painting and installing side skirts, CSL carbon fiber trunk replacement painted to match, another set of higher performing plugs and coils, tower brace, and some front splitters. The thing is a hot looking and sounding road beast at the moment. I still daily it when the weather is nice (I don't like to get it dirty). Sounds like you are already over the 100k maintenance hump. And you have another car now. You have a toy you can go nuts on now. Also dude, reduce your car insurance if you have not already. You are probably paying what the car is worth in insurance every 3-5 years.

6 oil changes is an oil change every 5k miles always use full synthetic. Even if you back out that stuff it’s still around a monthly average of close to $400. It’s expensive but I mean you gotta pay to play I knew it would unreliable when I bought it.

I have gotten lucky and love driving my car ...great winter car ....my cost to purchase was very low .. and i haven't had to put a lot of money into it ..... we have a full licensed shop at our home ... so any and all repairs will be done here ...Well we actually sent the transmission out to a tranny shop for seals ... but we pulled it out and put it back ... if we didn't have this shop I would be intimidated by repair prices ..

Meh, 6k yearly for maintenance on a BMW. A little higher than standard but nothing you should be shocked about.
It pays to play. It's one of the most fun cars you can own for a decent purchase price used. You have no idea how the previous owner drove it or what they did or didn't do. Carfax can tell you a bunch, but you bought a BMW 335 you should have a budget for maintenance at around 4k yearly not considering tires, breaks or routine maintenance.
Just got rid of my 2008 Bmw which i drove for 100k after 5 years it was a standard 4k maintenance average and it was an experience, that I can tell you. No more fun car to drive but it costs a grrrrrrrrrrrrrrip. Sometimes you get lucky and the car runs good for a lot longer but be careful to anyone reading this that might be holding back on the decision and not sure what to do.
Seems like your maintenance costs above are very low compared to the dealer.
Upgraded to a BMW 16 X1 and it's been very good but did need a brand new engine after a purchased it off the lot. True story lol. I hope to drive this vehicle to 150K and don't expect maintenance of the vehicle to average more than 2k per year(excluding tires, breaks) but who knows lol.
    Peace player.

@@BMWE90HQ I get that Honda's aren't your thing, but do you mind my asking why? I've always driven Japanese to avoid basically what this video is about (no offense), but have been doing homework & wanting to switch to German. But after vids like this, I don't see why I ever would no matter how much I want the performance. Keep going back & forth honestly, but you obviously know this is insane. During an entire lifetime of Japanese ownership, what you experienced in this yr & change will literally never happen. May have transmission issues, and that's it generally speaking.
