As a retired CSM I can empathize with those soldiers and the stress that's involved with having to patrol an area with such high tension day and night. It's difficult to relax in the DMZ but hang in there guys because the good news is that you will PCS out soon.
I was stationed there in 1975. Always something going on there.
I was up there in 1982 on top of a mountain with a ground surveillance radar system. The North Korean were always attempting to infiltrate the DMZ. With our radar we could actually hear their movement and footsteps.. fire fights were always going on.. Had a ROK General land with his helicopter to our site and give us 3 cases of Budweiser for catching them trying to sneak across one foggy night. ROK solders got into one hell of fire fight. The next morning the ROK solders were able to recover a lot of military gear that was left behind by the North Koreans. They were able to pulled all their soldiers back to the north but there was a lot of blood left. Was listening over the secure net while it was taking place but not one word on the new. If people only knew what was going on over there.
If you retired as a SGM you should know those guys have absolutely no trouble relaxing on the DMZ. Soldiers relax anywhere any time.
I didn’t have dual tubes and fast helmets in 2018 when I was there. Thank god they gave those boys better equipment.

@@Alblox-01 The US conquered Afghanistan within a month just like Iraq. We could have left both countries immediately after overthrowing their governments and defeating their military, but in both countries we stayed to establish a democratic government. In Iraq that was accomplished, and we eventually left in 2011. Had to come back after 2013 to defeat ISIS but now we’ve mostly left Iraq aside from 2500 troops.
But in Afghanistan the government was too incompetent to hold onto power without the help of the USA. So when we eventually left Afghanistan, their government and military collapsed within 6 months. Afghanistan is strategically insignificant so the US was going to have to leave eventually, it wasn’t worth the money and resources to protect the country. If they couldn’t defend their democracy then that’s too bad for the people. We controlled 95% of Afghanistan when we left it. The Afghan government and military lost all of that within a matter of several months against a foe that was inferior to them. A lot of the Afghan military simply defected to the Taliban

Have seen those ROK guns? Those guns were modify by those guys at the government who also used those guns at some point in their military career. Thats why korean military has kits weapons and vehicles made for them. Not for the politicians but for the military themselves in mind. The difference between politicians who doesn't know about guns but keep blabbering and politicians who knows the importance of the said weapons for the boots on the ground
