great little kits i got 3 of them to teach the grand kids but there wasnt a fire board in any of the kits. these had the "bush craft" brand on it.. guess not a biggie i can use any wood for my fire board.
@@FlintStryker what about balsa wood ? i can get that from a model store. i want to make it big enough my small grand kids can hold it down with a foot so i may just make it from untreated pine and put dimples in it to hold the point. thanks
You did such a great video! I can't remember how I sold you this for only 15 bucks, because we are selling it for $19.99 on Amazon, probably you sent a offer and I just accepted LOL. For your questions and concerns 1. The spindle and thunderhead are made from Pine, we choose to use hard wood so they can last. 2. The fireboard is made from Paulownia, a tree mostly grown in East Asia, it is the softest wood we could find and it significantly decreased the difficulty for making friction fire 3. The spindle head is no longer flat, it is now rounded and fits in the divot perfectly 4. I have failed a couple of times when the notch is not cut to the divot, this is a issue that we should improve next. BTW, could you do another review video on Amazon?
Good to hear from you! I'm glad to finally know what wood species the kit is made from. I still think it is a good beginners kit. It's easy to use and the likelihood of success is quite high. I actually paid $19.50 for the dual kit back in 2021. Did I say $15 in the video? If so, my bad. And yes, it's important to make sure the notch is deep enough into the divot. I also identified that as a problem, but it's easy issue to correct. Best wishes!!!

@@butterbean4195 That’s unfortunate. Pick something soft. I think the kit boards are balsa. The spindles art Poplar - I think.
