  • My first stand-alone anime movie and I was blown away how good it was! It was requested quite some time ago and I have finally watched it. Your Name has a very special charm and it's one of those movies that you think about for days after watching it. It's endearing, heartwarming, beautiful, magical... It's hard to put it into words tbh.
    Not only that the story is captivating but also characters, music, animation. There was a lot of love put in this show, you can feel it while watching!
    I watched it one more time so I could get a better understanding of the stuff with musubi and the cord that is connecting people and altering the time!
    Thank you everyone for watching as always, I hope that you enjoy, see ya soon! :D

    Great reaction! This movie made similar impact on me when I watched it for the first time 2½ years ago. I've never had so strong feelings of sadness and happiness than watching this movie. Previously Spirited Away was the only anime movie I had watched. Your Name made me interested in Japan an Japanese culture too, and in the last years I have booked a round trip in Japan twice but unfortunately the pandemic has prevented that. This movie also made me interested in the music of Radwimps.

    There are some movies that manage to evoke almost indescribable emotions, and for me this is one of them. Maybe its a cocktail of emotions that aren’t often felt together, like grief, love, hope, anxiety, desperation, connection, and longing, nearly all at the same time at the climax of the movie. Either way it produces a feeling that is hard to find anywhere else yet feels completely natural, I love when art does that.
    Btw, its nice seeing you reacting to something outside the typical action/psychological thriller anime, as much as I enjoy those too. I’d love to see some slice of life series reactions in the future. I feel like you would appreciate how chill and wholesome they (usually) are.

    I only remember watching glimpse of “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Spirited Away” (which I really recommend) in childhood. Those two movies and few anime shows like Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon used to air in my country. I would recommend “Weathering with you” since it is set in same universe so Mutsuhito and Taki would make their appearance in that movie too (plus I haven’t seen that movie😂 but I know this). Your Name is technically the first anime in general that I’ve seen officially that too only recently and seriously it raised bars high for me. The animation was just so spell-bounding that it made me in awe and not to mention the great sound effect and storytelling with so many subtle hints of comet striking and Mitsuha & Taki being alive in beginning only that we overlooked. You’re one of the only reactors who really caught up to the body switch,meteor thing and especially the timeline thing for which other reactors gets so confused. I really got to whole storyline because of watching Freaky Friday and some kdramas so it wasn’t that weird.😂
    Also some fun facts: (sorry for my bad English) 1000 years ago one-half of meteor strikes on the mountain after which a whole colony gets established there as Itomori town and started living in there. There was a shrine who’s members used to do the ritual (the rice one I guess) to prevent the other half of the meteor from striking that’s why there’s a comet painting on wall in cave. They (Mitsuha’s ancestors) would keep having this body switching thing happen so they would be warned of future. Until 800 years later the records were burned down in the fire so they don’t know why they do the ritual at all. Now time jump to 200 years in present time, Mitsuha doesn’t understand why the body switch is happening since she doesn’t know the history. Now the comet that is striking is the other half of the previous comet that’s why it strikes right near the previous comet. Now since Mitsuha and Taki only remember things as dreams so they easily forget them as dreams. Once the purpose of body switch is done so the universe would erase every evidence about it including the memories and messages. When Taki and Mitsuha met on mountain, it was Twilight which as their teacher explained is the time when something inhuman can be seen or something supernatural (their whole body switching and the timeline issue) would be seen parallel to each other cause both found a balanced time (even though it’s for few moments). Taki actually did right by not writing his name on her palm instead he wrote I Love You. Since the universe would erase everything, his name would also be erased but as they met on Twilight and there was moon above them which according to Japanese culture the moon goddess saves the love irrespective of situation. So while the universe did erase the memories, it didn’t erase their feelings that’s why the I Love You was not erased since it doesn’t mess the supernatural aspect and actually let Mitsuha know that someone out there is indeed there who love her and that her dreams were not all illusions. Sorry for my long rant.

      Thank you so much for watching and for explanation! I really like that part with the moon goddess and ''I love you'' message. It makes even more sense now.

    There happens to be many different layers to the theme of this story - the comet, which has an orbital period of 1200 years. The same comet passed by 1200 years ago, also splitting at that time and hitting Itomori creating the lake. That’s why in the cave of the “vessel of the god” or the shrine in the crater, there is a painting of a comet splitting which is not the one from 2013 but from 1200 years ago. The comet that created the original crater / lake was still “connected” with the comet still in orbit, and the comet travels back to earth every 1200 years to reunite with its split partner. And when they get together in 2013, they leave another piece behind. This pattern, also represented by the theme of the “chord” - repeating pattern and flow of time. It happens so that the first crater was not the lake, where but where the vessel of the shrine is located, so this pattern had at least repeated 2 times before 2013. And the switching of bodies runs in the Miyamizu family. Shrine being built on the crater, and the shrine connecting the god (comet) and the people - Miyamizu family guarding the shrine. Grandma had it with the grandpa, and mom had it with dad. While they can’t remember clearly, this is one of the main reason why the dad ultimately believed in Mitsuha, to evacuate the town. One hint that Shinkai leaves where the dad probably experienced something in the past, was in the flashback where when Mitsuha’s mother dies, dad regrets “I couldn’t save her”, possibly implying he thought he could, involving switching bodies in different time lines.

    Can't wait to watch it tomorrow! Its one of my fav movies till date. I really wish that after watching this maybe I can get back into movies or shows like this becuz I recently developed insecurity to any kind of shows or things that have positive emotions in it, since I'm not able to percieve emotions normally so only fictional stories are the ones that actually makes me feel basically anything and so when irl I am not able to feel like that it soemhow created a feeling of insecurity that these emotions can only take place in fiction (which has been true so far unfortunately) and that's why I never wanted these emotions to exist with me in the real world. That's why I am scared or feel insecure to get these emotions back. Hopefully I made sense since I'm writing this while being sleepy XD. Anyway tomorrow's gonna be fun!
    Edit: Consider it like my current self (I have disassociative disorder) doesnt experience any emotions irl, so it watches fictional stuff like this, but my sentimental self (i ahve three personalities) craves these emotions, so my third self (who is a lil pyschopathic but ultimately wants my emotions to not disappear forever) gets the current me to ge addicted to it. And eys it makes me experience emotions for a short period, it dampens me to do anything else other than abuse these shows or artificial method of forcing emotions. For over 2 years ive been in that phase and ive done nothing but complain abt stuff but ive finally decided to take things in my own hands and do smthin rather than feel bad and just complain. So being emotionless is important for me to not feel bad abt myself. Thats why i have to find a balance with my other selves

    • @MarkosAnimeJourney
      @MarkosAnimeJourney  2 роки тому +9

      I think that I know what feeling you are talking about. I'm very emotional and I really enjoy stories like these but you need to make a difference between fictional stories and real life. I especially enjoy anime because life can be just shitty, it gives you a room to escape from the world a little bit and experience those feelings. I think that when you fall in love with someone, you can somewhat experience similar feelings no matter how weird this sounds. I hate giving advices because I don't think I know better than anyone else but if you felt those emotions during these movies, I'm sure that you can do it irl as well. I assume that you are still very young and that it just happened that those situations did not occur just yet in your life. Don't lose hope and remember that everytime your heartbeat goes up, when you smile, when you feel mad, when you feel down, those are your emotions, they exist!

    • @Error_Redacted
      @Error_Redacted 2 роки тому +2

      @@MarkosAnimeJourney thnx! Yes I know that these emotions can exist irl for me and i do have to wait but in order for me to change my shitty life atm i have to not focus on my emotions that is become more emotionless and in order not get myself back in the cycle of self-hatred and stop myself from moving forward. Also thnx for listening to my weird mental breakdowns i dont talk to people that often (often as in like once a week, month? I dunno) so it makes me happy whenever anyone responds to me anywhere.

      @@MarkosAnimeJourney I'm recommending it because also for the reason that after years, finally Made in Abyss will get a series sequence in episodes (because there was a movie adapting what would equate to season 2)in mid-2022, so my excitement is at really high levels for the return of this fantastic Anime, a really unique mix of cute and brutal.

    It's a good thing that you watched the movie in sub. I dunno, when I binged watch Your Name with dub, the VA voice feels really off for me and the English version of the soundtrack also made me really cringe'd at that time. I decided to give the sub version a shot and in my opinion, it's far better than the dub. The VA voices for the characters feels fit for the characters. And the Japanese soundtrack for it also, oh my god, it's literally my favourite soundtrack in all of anime. Though, some people may prefer dub over sub due to they can easily watch the movie without doing two works at the same time, but some people may also prefer sub over dub, due to them want to experience originality. So, I appreciate if someone don't attack me due to me giving on my opinion for an anime movie in an anime reaction channel :).

    • @MarkosAnimeJourney
      @MarkosAnimeJourney  2 роки тому

      I respect your opinion, especially because you watched both dub and sub. I always prefer to watch any show in it's original language so therefore I'll always watch sub anime but I know that there are some amazing dubs out there and I check some of them after finishing series in sub.

    In the english dub, it says that they change places 2 to 3 times a week, I don't speak Japanese, so I don't know what they are actually say. During that part the sub says a few times a week. that goes against what the english dub is saying. The definition of a "few" is no less than 4 and no more than 8. So, I'm not sure what the actual Japanese version says for sure, but it's hard to say, without knowing how many times a week they actually are changing. I would think it's a few and not two or three.
